This Sunday

God’s love is better than…
Anything you really love, you praise. You have to. Try going to a Packer or Badger game and not cheering. If you’re a fan, you can’t. Praise erupts spontaneously, and you do it better with others. In our last week on Psalm 63, we will invite the Spirit to teach us about our praise to the Lord—what it is, why we do it, and what makes it different from every other kind of praise we engage in. Read Psalm 63 again this week and ask the Spirit to prepare your heart for praise. See you gathered with the saints to practice what we can’t help but do: praise.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Feedback invited
St. Andrew is in the gospel communication business. Did you have trouble understanding the preacher last Sunday because of your hearing impairment?  If so, please contact Pastor Hunter at randy.hunter@st-andrew-online.org by Thursday morning. Thank you.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Coming October 3…

Acts booklets
For those that still have their Acts booklets from Acts part 1, it is time to dust them off for Acts part 2. If you do not have a booklet, we have plenty of booklets in the atrium. Pick up a new one and keep it with you as we finish our study of the book of Acts.

Worship Check-in
Please let us know that you were with us for worship. You can do so on our website or by going here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend here. Obviously, ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.
Praise the Lord (Psalm 150)” by Matt Papa, Matt Boswell
Christ Our Hope in Life and Death” by Matt Merker, Jordan Kauflin, Matt Papa, Matt Boswell, and Keith Getty
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” by Dan Kreider
King of Kings” by Hillsong

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

FUEL
Today’s teens are stressed out. This Sunday we’ll talk about Godly ways to deal with stress. All St. Andrew high school students are encouraged to attend FUEL every Sunday at 9:30 AM. We had a dozen students last Sunday. It was great to start a new year with that many teens. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.

Celebrate Recovery
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place” (Psalm 118:5). The writer is saying the Lord brought him to recovery. If you or a loved one is feeling “hard pressed,” consider Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery returns to St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM beginning October 4. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.

Impact
The omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence of God are all there in Psalm 139. Listen to Impact as Mr. KJ and his guest discuss this awesome Psalm. New Impact episodes are released every Monday. Past episodes are also available. Give it a listen and share this nurture resource with others.

PETT
Eat, play, worship, and learn together. That’s what we’ll do on the last Monday of every month from 5:30 – 7:15 PM. It starts September 27, and it’s for all PETT students. Parents, to join a serving team for one of the meals click here to access the sign up list under the Needs tab.

The center of my life
Keeping Jesus at the center of your life happens through regular time with God’s Word. This can be done many ways. One way is by reading through Forward in Christ, the official magazine of the WELS. Pick up a copy in the atrium.  Reading FIC is time well spent!

Children’s Ministries
St. Andrew Children’s Ministries welcomed nearly 60 kids last Sunday, from infants on up, including those virtual! We have plenty of room for the children you love. Did you share a Kit last year with a neighbor or friend? Invite them to participate in person or request a virtual Kit. Register your kids ages infant through 12 here.

Home activity for “The Good Samaritan”: Help your kids make first aid kits to share with your local homeless shelter or food bank. Include “We love because he first loved us—1 John 4:19.” Here is the link to the Good Samaritan video lesson.

Musikgarten: Certified Musikgarten leader Karen Hong will teach Jesus through interactive music and rhythm activities. Caregivers and infants through age three are welcome. Still prefer at-home activities? Ask for a Kit. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus: Our focus will be “A Prayer Lesson” this week, with games, Bible, crafts, and more! Virtual Kits are available by request. Grades 1 – 5 meet in the gym, and Pre-K3 – kindergarten meet in Room 102. Questions? Contact Jane Dew

Middle School: The Lord’s Prayer is deep! Find out how deep—and timeless!—this Sunday. Grades 6 – 8 meet in room 106 for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Monthly Mission Partner
WELS Christian Aid & Relief is our monthly mission partner for September.  WELS Christian Aid & Relief team members help others in disaster relief and humanitarian aid situations and spread the gospel around the world. Your donations go directly to support this critical ministry.

Do you enjoy digital media?
Part of our Service and Outreach ministry mission addresses tracking our connection cards and updating Facebook postings, our website, Instagram, etc. We haven’t given up on print yet, but the world is transitioning to digital media at an ever-increasing pace. Our connection ministry is one part of Service and Outreach, and those who make it happen are among our priceless volunteers. We are looking for someone to assist with this ministry opportunity—could that be you?  Contact Curt Kephart.

Planning our Thanksgiving giving
Planning is already underway to support our Thanksgiving outreach service to Madison Outreach Ministry in Middleton (affectionately called MOM).  This year, as we have done in the past, we will sponsor food contributions to MOM from the end of October up until the second week in November.  We will look for specific items to help others have a blessed Thanksgiving.  An additional coordinator for this year’s campaign would be great!  Is that you? Contact Curt Kephart for more information.

Are your gifts unwrapped?
God provides spiritual gifts and talents for us to use our hands and hearts in service to others. Some people like to work with their hands, others like to work with people, and others enjoy technology. Most of us are not restricted to just one gift. Have you noticed a volunteer at St. Andrew and thought, “I could do that”?  Are you waiting to be asked? Waiting to be mentored? Consider it done. If you have not filled out the volunteer Connect|Serve|Impact Survey on CCB, please do so. We also have paper copies at the Welcome Center. If you have filled it out and were not contacted, please let us know. God has given you good gifts to serve, and we want to help you do that.

Our growing landscape
Many volunteers are helping the new grass and trees get a good head start. Mike Eberle, Aaron Faessler, Bob Lund, John and Shelly Schmoller, Keith and Dorothy Beck, and many others are working day and night to keep our landscape looking great. We are blessed with willing hands and hearts to make this property reflect our caring for God’s creation. Words alone cannot express our gratitude for their willingness to pitch in and do whatever it takes. Thank you!

A networking opportunity
I3 is a Christian power luncheon for business leaders to network with Christian leaders, be INSPIRED through excellent keynotes and discussions, and IGNITE a passion for servant leadership to IMPACT those within their sphere of influence.

Wisconsin Lutheran College will host I3 events on Tuesday, October 5, at WLC and on Wednesday, October 6, at the Hilton Garden Inn Madison West/Middleton. For each event, registration and networking begin at 10:45 AM. At 11:45 AM, enjoy a luncheon and the keynote address titled “Creating a Culture of Care” by Dee Ann Turner (CEO of Dee Ann Turner & Associates, LLC, and three-time best-selling author). For more information, visit  https://www.wlc.edu/2021-i3-Madison/ or contact Steve Dettman.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Extended Care staff position
Westside is looking for a qualified candidate for our after-school Extended Care program. The position is open to college-aged students or older. The position is on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 3:00 to 5:15 PM. This individual will work with preschool – 2nd grade children. Extended Care begins with a recess, followed by snack time, and the remaining time is spent doing homework or playing quietly so that others can study. This staff member is responsible for signing students in and out, student safety, snack prep, and clean up. If you are interested in learning more about this role in our ministry, please reach out to our preschool director, Ellen Soukup.

Meet Lynnda Ehlke!
We look forward to welcoming Lynnda as our new receptionist. She and her husband, Duane, have two daughters, Halle (17) and Shelby (13 and in 8th grade at WCS). They live in the Waunakee/Middleton area and have been members of St. Andrew for 16 years. Lynnda has been working in the Middleton school district for the last eight years, supporting students with special needs. In her spare time, she likes to run and hang out with her two-year-old German Shepherd, Berkley.  She is looking forward to meeting everyone at the reception desk soon!

Ministry Support

Thank you!
Anonymous givers have supplied an ice maker and installation. The fresh ice is available for St. Andrew Growth Groups, picnics, meals, to chill the water in your bottle, and although we hope not, for your sports injury! You’ll find it next to the three-basin sink. Thank you!
