This Sunday

A sense of God
What’s your favorite sense? Hard to choose, isn’t it? Throughout Scripture, the Spirit uses our senses to help us appreciate and know God. For example, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Gather with saints this Thursday or Sunday to encounter God in his Word and at his Table. Enjoy a feast for your senses.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

I’m new here–where do I start?
If that’s your question, the answer is easy: First Group. You’ll work with Pastor Hunter to review the storyline of the Bible, four key words, two mysteries, and spiritual disciplines we follow to walk with him. We’ll meet 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM for eight Sundays, beginning September 12. You can sign up in the atrium or online, or you can contact Pastor Hunter at this email to discuss it: randy.hunter@st-andrew-online.org

Growth Groups
Grow closer to Jesus and your St. Andrew family. Join a Growth Group. Today is the last day to sign up for the fall semester. Here is the link. Contact Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad with your questions.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

10:30 AM Communion Care
There are many serving teams at St. Andrew to be a part of. One team to consider is the Communion Care team. This important team serves behind the scenes each week setting up for Communion and cleaning it up afterward. It’s a great way to serve individually, with your family, or with a friend. The 10:30 AM team in particular takes about 15 minutes to clean up the bread and wine following worship. If you are interested in being a part of this team, contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Worship Check-in
Please let us know that you were with us for worship. You can do so on our website or by going here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend here. Obviously, ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.
Jesus” by Chris Tomlin
This Is Amazing Grace” by Phil Wickham
Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by Sufjan Stevens
Ancient of Days” by CityAlight

Milestones
Miles Nicholas Alt, son of Ryan and Amanda Alt, will be brought into God’s kingdom through water and the Word this Saturday, September 11.

Riley Mae Havens, daughter of Brock and Kristen and grandchild of Ferron and Barb Havens, was baptized into Christ last Sunday.

May the Spirit who gave these children new life now use us all to nurture their faith through the Word.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

FUEL
FUEL is back this Sunday at 9:30 AM! We’ll hand out our new devotion books, decide on future FUEL topics, and win candy or have fun trying. All St. Andrew high school students are encouraged to attend. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.

Celebrate Recovery
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place” (Psalm 118:5).
The writer is saying the Lord brought him to recovery. If you or a loved one is feeling “hard pressed,” consider Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery returns to St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM beginning October 4. More information is found here.

Impact
Which is greater—the combined sin debt of every sinner who has ever lived, or the grace of God? Thankfully it’s the latter. Listen to Impact for more on Romans 5 and more on God’s amazing grace with Mr. Kjenstad and Professor Paul Wendland from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary.

PETT
Eat, play, worship, and learn together. That’s what we’ll do on the last Monday of every month from 5:30 – 7:15 PM. It starts September 27, and it’s for all PETT students. Here is the link for parents to sign up to join a serving team for one of the meals.

Family devotion
Keeping Jesus at the center of your family is done by spending time together with Jesus. This can be done many ways. One way is through daily devotions. If you would like help finding a resource (like the one pictured) for your family, talk to Mr. KJ.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Monthly Mission Partner
WELS Christian Aid & Relief is our Monthly Mission Partner for September. WELS Christian Aid & Relief team members help others in disaster relief and humanitarian aid situations and spread the gospel around the world. Your donations go directly to support this critical ministry.

Do you enjoy digital media?
Part of our Service and Outreach ministry mission addresses tracking our connection cards and updating Facebook postings, our website, Instagram, etc. We haven’t given up on print yet, but the world is transitioning to digital media at an ever-increasing pace. Our connection ministry is one part of Service and Outreach, and those who make it happen are among our priceless volunteers. We are looking for someone to assist with this ministry opportunity—could that be you? Contact Curt Kephart.

Is it too soon to be thankful? Never!
Planning is already underway to support our Thanksgiving outreach service to Madison Outreach Ministry in Middleton (affectionately called MOM).  This year, as we have done in the past, we will sponsor food contributions to MOM from the end of October up until the second week in November.  We will look for specific items to help others have a blessed Thanksgiving.  An additional coordinator for this year’s campaign would be great!  Is that you? Contact Curt Kephart for more information.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Lunch room support
We are looking for a friendly helping hand to volunteer during the lunch period at WCS. This volunteer will record the names of students who take school lunch, help teachers with spills, and assist with table and floor clean-up during transition times. If there’s a day of the week that you could consistently volunteer, or if your schedule only allows for some occasional support, please reach out to Westside’s administrative assistant, Stacy Bernd, to learn more about this opportunity.

Return to after-school sports
We are excited to be able to offer after-school sports at WCS again this fall! With more than 50 students registered for our fall options, we have A and B teams for girls volleyball, a co-ed team for soccer, and a co-ed cross country team. We’re thankful to the parents and teachers who volunteer their time to coach and organize these great opportunities for our student athletes. If you have an interest in coaching or assistant coaching for basketball, track, or co-ed softball in the future, please reach out to Athletic Director Jack Murphy.
