This Sunday

How you got your name
Have you asked your parents why they gave you the name you have? Sometimes a deep meaning emerges, sometimes not. Either way, most of us want to know how we got our names. Do you know how you got the name Christian? The Bible says believers were first called Christians in a city called Antioch in Syria. What they did will help us understand our name better. Welcome to Acts II. Read Acts 13:1 – 4  and gather with others who bear the same name you have. You’ll see the family resemblance.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Acts study books
It’s time! For those that still have their Acts study book from Acts I, it is time to dust them off for Acts II beginning this weekend. If you do not have a book, we have plenty of new books in the atrium. Pick up a new one and keep it with you as we finish our study of the book of Acts.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Adult choir returns
After an extended time off, adult choir will be returning! Unsure if choir is for you? Come and give it a try. We’ll rehearse October 13, 20, and 27 at 7 PM to sing for church on Sunday, October 31. Anyone high school age and older is welcome to attend. If you are interested in participating in choir, please fill out this short form. Questions? Talk to Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

AV booth finishes
Check out the new finishes in the AV booth! The permanent countertop and wood finishes were installed this week on Tuesday. Thanks to Dan Wasmer and Jared Dammann for helping to unhook and label ALL of the cords so the desk could be cleared and hooked back up correctly when it was finished.

Worship Check-in
Please let us know that you were with us for worship. You can do so on our website or by going here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend here. Obviously, ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

FUEL
God’s Word has lots of help for teens with anxieties and worries (and that’s pretty much all of them). At FUEL on Sunday, we’re going to reach into the Word for the help it offers. FUEL meets at 9:30 AM every Sunday and is for all St. Andrew high school students. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.

Celebrate Recovery
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place” (Psalm 118:5). The writer is saying the Lord brought him to recovery. If you or a loved one is feeling “hard pressed,” consider Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery returns to St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM beginning October 4. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.

Impact
Jesus tells us to “go and make disciples.” That’s the short version. Listen to our St. Andrew podcast for the complete version of this great privilege and weighty responsibility. New Impact episodes are released every Monday. Past episodes are also available. Give Impact a listen and share this nurture resource with others.

PowerHour
PowerHour is this Friday! PowerHour is for children up to age 3 with an adult. Come for play, songs, stories, God’s Word, and a snack-to-go. Feel free to invite a friend or family member. PowerHour meets in the gym at 10:30 AM on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.

WELS Campus Ministry
When your college student is away from home, encourage him or her to stay connected to Jesus. He is their most important relationship. Check out WELS Campus Ministry to see what is available.

Musikgarten
Caregivers and infants through age three are welcome Sunday mornings at 9:20. At-home kits are available. Contact Karen Hong with your questions.

Plugged into Jesus
Here is the home activity for “The Good Shepherd”: Hide a paper or toy sheep somewhere in your home. Ask kids to be good shepherds and look for the sheep. Talk about how Jesus, our Good Shepherd, cares for us. “The Good Shepherd” video lesson is here.

“A Tree View: Zacchaeus” will be this week’s lesson. Join us for more games, Bible, and crafts! Grades 1 – 5 meet in the gym, and Pre-K3 – kindergarten meet in room 102. Both begin at 9:20 AM on Sundays. Did you know virtual kits are an option? Please consider kids in your world who need to know Jesus, and deliver a kit or invite them to in-person sessions. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Middle School
How can I seek the lost in my world? Middle School Plugged into Jesus (grades 6 – 8) will talk through ways to do that.  They meet in room 106 at 9:30 AM on Sundays. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

October Monthly Mission Partner
Citrus Grove Church, our home mission in Wesley Chapel, Florida, is our October Monthly Mission Partner. This mission meets to grow people in the Word as Jesus makes hearts healthier and lives more fruitful. At Citrus Grove Church, God himself does the gardening. Donations to Citrus Grove Church go directly to support the church’s work in southern Florida.

St. Andrew giving thanks | Top 10 for MOM
We are again going to help Middleton Outreach Ministry this year as our way of giving thanks by providing their top 10 needed items. Labeled boxes will be in the atrium for you to fill. MOM’s volunteers will be collecting everything on November 8. The items they are requesting will be in next week’s Weekly. We are so blessed with gifts of love from God. This is just one way we can give back. If you have any questions about this ministry, please contact TLC member Karen Teske-Osborne.

Connections
St. Andrew is a relational church where we work at connectedness. Sometimes we take it for granted that we already know each other, but other times, things are happening in people’s lives that we don’t know we need to pray about. In the next few weeks, we will share why our connections are important as we re-introduce connection cards, discuss the importance of prayer requests, and listen to you and consider your comments along the way. Connections keep the body of Christ engaged, connected to our Lord, and committed to caring for each other and growing in Christ. Stay tuned . . .

A networking opportunity
I3 is a Christian power luncheon for business leaders to network with Christian leaders, be INSPIRED through excellent keynotes and discussions, and IGNITE a passion for servant leadership to IMPACT those within their sphere of influence.

Wisconsin Lutheran College will host I3 events on Tuesday, October 5, at WLC and on Wednesday, October 6, at the Hilton Garden Inn Madison West/Middleton. For each event, registration and networking begin at 10:45 AM. At 11:45 AM, enjoy a luncheon and the keynote address titled “Creating a Culture of Care” by Dee Ann Turner (CEO of Dee Ann Turner & Associates, LLC, and three-time best-selling author). For more information, visit WLC’s website or contact Steve Dettman.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Westside Stride
Our students and staff will be participating in a fun and healthy fundraiser—The Westside Stride—on October 8, 2021. This event is coordinated by Friends of Westside (Westside’s parent-teacher group). The event is meant to include the entire Westside Christian School community in a fun and healthy activity. The students will learn about healthy habits and the benefits of exercise and have a great time running, walking, and doing the chicken dance with a visiting DJ. Funds raised from the Westside Stride will be used to expand our recreational areas for students by purchasing basketball hoops and new playground equipment. You can view our school fundraising website here.
