This Week

Why a hurricane?
Luke tells us when Paul and his companions were caught at sea in a hurricane, “All hope that we would be saved was disappearing.” (Acts 27:20) Hope is a combination of trust in the Lord’s faithfulness to his promises and the Lord’s perfectly timed invasion into our affairs. It’s hard to live without it . . . whether the hurricane was in the Mediterranean 2,000 years ago, hitting Florida this week, or hitting your life with enough force to knock the wind out of you. Why does God do that? While there are no pat answers, God does reveal some answers to us. Sit with, pray with, sing with, and worship with the family of God at St. Andrew this Thursday at 7 PM or Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM to search for those answers and worship God for them.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Adult Choir
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays in Room 115 to sing for worship on the following dates:

  • Sunday, October 9 (rehearsals will be September 28 and October 5)
  • Sunday, October 30 (rehearsals will be October 12, 19, and 26)

High-school-age and older are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Milestones
Daniel Lee Porter, son of Jami and Adam Porter, received the strengthening of faith that comes through holy baptism last Sunday, September 25.

Nicole Tellock and Joshua Ihlenfeldt (brother of Hannah Ihlenfeldt) will be married this weekend in Minnesota.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Family Devotions
For devotions made easy, check out WELS Family Devotions. They are released every 2 – 3 days, and you can have them delivered right to your inbox. God bless all the ways you nurture the precious faith God has graciously given to you.

Impact
The devil is real and powerful and after souls. He also is a loser. We have Jesus to thank for that. Listen to more on Revelation 12 with Pastor Erich Schaser from Fox Valley Lutheran High School. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
If you have a little one 3 or younger, check out this enriching ministry. PowerHour is for children and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. For more details about PowerHour, click here. The next PowerHour is October 7, and the theme is “Rooms of the House.”

Children’s ministries
Bring your child to a Sunday morning nurture ministry. This week the children will learn about Samson, who had incredible physical strength but we can’t say the same about his spiritual strength.

  • Musikgarten | for parents (or a caregiver) and their child up to age 3 (9:20 AM)
  • Plugged into Jesus | Pre-K3 – grade 5 (9:20 AM)
  • Spark | grades 6 – 8 (9:30 AM)

All who attend grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the love he has for them. These important ministries also lay a foundation for developing lives of faithful service to our gracious Lord. No registration is required.

FUEL
FUEL is a high-school-age St. Andrew Growth Group that meets Sundays at 9:30 AM. This ministry provides a place for teens to ask questions and talk about life in the light of God’s Word. This week a little more on prayer, to prepare teens for a lifetime place among The Prayer Warriors.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

October Monthly Mission Partner
Citrus Grove Church, our home mission in Wesley Chapel, Florida, is our October Monthly Mission Partner. This mission meets to grow people in the Word as Jesus makes hearts healthier and lives more fruitful. At Citrus Grove Church, God himself does the gardening. Donations to Citrus Grove Church go directly to support the church’s work in southern Florida.

Janitorial care positions
Volunteers fill many, many roles at St. Andrew to carry out this ministry, but some roles we pay people to do. Currently, there are three paid janitorial roles available. This isn’t the regular “heavy lifting” cleaning—we contract Badger Chemical and Supply for the whole building cleaning after school. Here is a list of the paid positions.

  • Part-time daytime janitor | Throughout the school year this janitor refreshes bathrooms, completes general cleaning in the gym and sanctuary, etc.
  • Temporary janitor | Until the daytime janitor role is filled, this flexible and temporary role requires mopping of the kitchen and cleaning of the sanctuary two times a week. This position is a great opportunity for high school students.
  • Full-time Lead Custodian | The Lead Custodian reports to the Director of Properties, oversees the cleaning activities for both Westside Christian School and St. Andrew, schedules and manages the custodial team, orders supplies, and more.

For more information on any of these roles, or to get a position description, please contact Amy Hutter.
