This Week

Sex in the Bible | Part 2
Knowledge is one thing; wisdom is another. Wisdom is the ability to take what you know and translate it into how you live. This weekend, let the Spirit teach you about his gifts of sex and marriage, but also give you wisdom for how to use those gifts. This is the second (and final) service on God’s gifts of sex and marriage in our Poetical Books series. Last month, the Spirit spoke to us on this subject from the book of Song of Songs. This weekend, the Spirit will speak to us on the same subject from the book of Proverbs. Enjoy reading Proverbs, and ask the Spirit to show you Jesus and give you wisdom through it. Gather with brothers and sisters this Thursday or Sunday as together we seek wisdom for our lives.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Worship site visits
The Worship Leadership team (Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs, Sue Martalock, Justin Beck, Brandon Brickner, and Mike Eberle) has been visiting numerous churches over the past few months getting new ideas for our own worship services. They have also been looking at the different church buildings to gain knowledge and to help us make decisions as we look to build our new sanctuary in correlation with our three-year vision.

Milestones
Eileen Newby and Tom Watkins were married on Sunday, September 24. May they bring glory to God and joy to each other through their marriage.

Caryn Ostrand placed the flowers in the chancel today in memory of Kevin’s birthday.

The Thiele family gathered last Saturday at Garden Bluff Cemetery in Lodi for the interment of David’s remains.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grieving together
Losing a loved one hurts. There is a new Growth Group at St. Andrew to support those who are grieving such a loss. This group will be meeting from 7:00 – 7:30 online on Monday evenings for encouragement, devotion, and prayer. We will use this book by Dr. Stacy Hoehl, a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Use this link to register for the group. We will begin October 16. Let’s do our grieving together.

A Morning for Your Marriage | 9:00 AM, Saturday, October 21
Want to grow in your appreciation for each other? Those who appreciate God’s kindness are always looking for ways to express their appreciation to God for his friendship.  One way followers of Christ do that is by building friendships with each other.  Witness Jesus overcoming enemies that would have prevented your friendship with God, identify four foes of friendship to your marriage, assess your fondness and admiration for each other, and commit to ways you’ll express appreciation for each other. Can you think of a better way to spend Saturday morning? Register here by Sunday, October 15.

Impact
There is a lot we don’t know about the Flood because the Bible only gives us so much. But what it gives us is the truth. This week is part two of exploring that truth with Pastor Karl Schauland from Great Plains Lutheran High School. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
PowerHour brought in 20+ kids last time. The PowerHour staff is anxious to welcome you and your child next time. Children up to age three and their caregivers are invited. The next PowerHour is October 6 at 10:30 AM in the gym. We will have fun exploring all things weather. Click here for more on PowerHour.

Sunday Children’s Ministries
Musikgarten and Plugged into Jesus are offered each Sunday morning at 9:20. Musikgarten is for children up to age three, and Plugged into Jesus serves children 4K – grade 5.

Musikgarten meets in room 104. Please consider how many adults are in the room when deciding if both parents or one parent will attend from your family.

Plugged into Jesus meets in room 102 (4K – kindergarten) and the gym (grades 1 – 5). There will be a registration form to fill out when you bring your child for the first time.

Send your questions to Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad.

Spark
Growing up has always had its unique challenges for preteens and young teens. This is true today more than ever. Fortunately, we have God’s Word to help guide them. Each week in Spark (grades 6 – 8), the students read through a Bible story and then spend time discussing ways to apply the lessons to their relationships, responsibilities, and recreation. Sparks meets every Sunday morning from 9:30 – 10:15 in room 110. Email Jessica Bohl with your questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Service opportunity | indoor painting
With staff personnel shifts, some walls and doorways were removed/created this summer, creating some uneven coloration and an opportunity for you. If you would like to serve by painting a few walls totaling about one small room, contact Pastor Clinton.

Service opportunity | woodworking
Are you somewhat competent with dead trees? Do you want to help enhance the season of focusing on Christ’s passion for the whole family of St. Andrew? Then we have an opportunity for you, and the best part is you can do as little or as much as you want. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.

Sure Foundation update
St. Andrew has partnered with Sure Foundation Lutheran Church in Brandon, South Dakota, through the Monthly Mission Partner program and by sending mission teams the last two summers. Just last week, Sure Foundation closed on land, meaning the congregation will be able to build a facility of its own. To God be the glory!

Keys found
A keychain of a few keys was found in the hall in late August. Call or stop by the Welcome Center to identify and claim them.

Monthly Mission Partner
Preparing to be a called worker in the public ministry of the gospel is no small task. It involves at least a college degree and often ministerial education at the high school level. St. Andrew offers financial assistance to those who attend one of these schools that prepares them for those callings: Luther Preparatory School in Watertown; Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota; and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. Three St. Andrew individuals are in that pipeline currently.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Westside Stride
Westside Christian School will be holding its 3rd annual Westside Stride (a.k.a. fun run) on Friday, September 29. The purpose of this event is to foster an active community that believes in working together for the good of our school and to promote healthy lifestyle choices all for the glory of God. Students will have an opportunity to work together and encourage one another. In 2023, WCS will be using Westside Stride proceeds to support the following: the Friends of Westside (FOW) annual budget, additional enhancements to our playground, a fund allowing teachers to apply for money for special projects, subsidizing our WCS social events, and extra field trips for our students. Parents, grandparents, and others are welcome to attend and cheer everyone on at the following times:

  • 4K | 10:10 – 10:40 AM
  • Grades 5 – 8 | 12:20 – 1:25 PM
  • Grades 2 – 4 | 1:05 – 2:05 PM
  • Kindergarten – Grade 1 | 1:45 – 2:50 PM
