This Sunday

Good to be a tree
Catchphrases like “Be all that you can be” and “Do what you were made to do” hint at a deep-down drive inside the human heart that pushes us . . . and nags at us. Am I doing the right things? Am I doing them well enough? If God hadn’t put that voice inside us, we might be content with a life of Netflix and Doritos. But once you start asking, “Am I doing something that matters?” you need some answers. Another voice, God’s own, answers clearly from the pages of the Bible. We’ll listen to Psalm 92 as we gather together this weekend to grow and praise, just like you were made to do.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Coming October 3…

Acts booklets
For those that still have their Acts booklets from Acts part 1, it is time to dust them off for Acts part 2. If you do not have a booklet, we have plenty of booklets in the atrium. Pick up a new one and keep it with you as we finish our study of the book of Acts.

Adult choir returns
After an extended time off, adult choir will be returning! Unsure if choir is for you? Come and give it a try. We’ll rehearse October 13, 20, and 27 at 7 PM to sing for church on Sunday, October 31. Anyone high school age and older is welcome to attend. If you are interested in participating in choir, please fill out this short form. Questions? Talk to Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Touch up painting in sanctuary
Do you enjoy painting? As renovations start to wind down, the sanctuary walls could use some touch-up paint. Day and time of painting can be flexible. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Worship Check-in
Please let us know that you were with us for worship. You can do so on our website or by going here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend here. Obviously, ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.
Blessed Be Your Name” by Matt Redman
“Chief of Sinners Though I Be” by Branches Band
Beautiful Savior (All My Days)” by Stuart Townend
Make Me a Light” by Caleb Schmiege

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Triplets
Triplets are 3-person Growth Groups. If you are interested in learning more about this unique way to feed on God’s Word, contact Mark Kjenstad, Staff Minister for Nurture.

FUEL
Today’s teens are stressed out. Last Sunday we started discussing ways to deal with and reduce stress. This coming Sunday we will look to Scripture for help. FUEL meets at 9:30 AM every Sunday and is for all St. Andrew high school students. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.

Celebrate Recovery
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place” (Psalm 118:5). The writer is saying the Lord brought him to recovery. If you or a loved one is feeling “hard pressed,” consider Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery returns to St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM beginning October 4. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.

Impact
King Joash was 7 years old when he became King of Judah. Talk about an over-achiever! This is more than just a cute story from a long time ago, however. It is a testimony to God’s unwavering faithfulness to his promise of grace. Listen to Mr. Kjenstad and Pastor Aaron Dolan tell the story and relate it to your story. New Impact episodes are released every Monday. Past episodes are also available. Give Impact a listen and share this nurture resource with others.

PETT (Parents Equipped to Teach)
Eat, play, worship, and learn together. That’s what all PETT students do on the last Monday of every month from 5:30 – 7:15 PM. The first one is this upcoming Monday, September 27.  Parents, please join a serving team for one of the meals. Click here to access the sign-up list under the Needs tab.

PowerHour
We had a terrific turnout last Friday! PowerHour is for children up to age 3 with an adult. Come for play time, sing-along, stories, God’s Word, and snack-to-go. The next PowerHour is October 1 at 10:30 AM in the gym.

Musikgarten
Certified Musikgarten leader Karen Hong will teach Jesus through interactive music and rhythm activities. Caregivers and infants through age three are welcome. At-home kits are available. Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
Home activity for “A prayer lesson”: Have kids keep a prayer journal. The Lord’s Prayer video lesson is here.

“A shepherd loves: Jesus cares for us” is this week’s lesson. Grades 1 – 5 meet in the gym, and Pre-K3 – 5 meet in Room 102. Did you know virtual kits are an option? Think about those you shared these with last year and consider reaching out with Jesus again. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Middle School
What does it mean to “lay down” a life? Jesus teaches us! Grades 6 – 8 meet in room 106 for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Monthly Mission Partner
WELS Christian Aid & Relief is our monthly mission partner for September. WELS Christian Aid & Relief team members help others in disaster relief and humanitarian aid situations and spread the gospel around the world. Your donations go directly to support this critical ministry.

Coming up—October Monthly Mission Partner
Citrus Grove Church, our home mission in Wesley Chapel, Florida, is also our October Monthly Mission Partner. This mission meets to grow people in the Word as Jesus makes hearts healthier and lives more fruitful. At Citrus Grove Church, God himself does the gardening.  Donations to Citrus Grove Church go directly to support the church’s work in southern Florida.

The Fields Are Ripe update
We have exciting news to report regarding the Ministry Expansion campaign. The Fields Are Ripe team is sending out a letter updating you on our one-year progress and how God has blessed us with new students, members, faculty, and the facility to point all to Christ.  Yes indeed, the fields are ripe, and we are the laborers in his field.  God bless you as you consider your role in this ministry.

Thanksgiving donations
Efforts are underway in support of our Thanksgiving outreach to Madison Outreach Ministry (MOM) in Middleton. This year, as in the past, we sponsor food and financial contributions to MOM from October 14 through November 7. We are looking for specific items as requested by MOM. Labeled boxes will be set up in the atrium to leave your food donation. More information will soon be available.  An additional coordinator for this year’s campaign would be great! Is that you? Contact Curt Kephart for more information.

Are your gifts unwrapped?
God provides spiritual gifts and talents for us to use our hands and hearts in service to others. Some people like to work with their hands, others like to work with people, and others enjoy technology. Most of us are not restricted to just one gift. Have you noticed a volunteer at St. Andrew and thought, “I could do that”?  Are you waiting to be asked? Waiting to be mentored? Consider it done. If you have not filled out the volunteer Connect|Serve|Impact Survey on CCB, please do so. We also have paper copies at the Welcome Center. If you have filled it out and were not contacted, please let us know. God has given you good gifts to serve, and we want to help you do that.

A networking opportunity
I3 is a Christian power luncheon for business leaders to network with Christian leaders, be INSPIRED through excellent keynotes and discussions, and IGNITE a passion for servant leadership to IMPACT those within their sphere of influence.

Wisconsin Lutheran College will host I3 events on Tuesday, October 5, at WLC and on Wednesday, October 6, at the Hilton Garden Inn Madison West/Middleton. For each event, registration and networking begin at 10:45 AM. At 11:45 AM, enjoy a luncheon and the keynote address titled “Creating a Culture of Care” by Dee Ann Turner (CEO of Dee Ann Turner & Associates, LLC, and three-time best-selling author). For more information, visit WLC’s website or contact Steve Dettman.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Finishing touches
The students at Westside Christian School are excitedly using all of the new classrooms from the recent expansion project. We are thankful to have the space to spread out all 215 Pre-K3 – 8th grade students enrolled. The addition is still getting some finishing touches as we move through the early weeks of the school year. We are particularly thankful to Leroy Brandt for his recent help assembling the art tables and desks that arrived in the last week. If you walk down the new hallway, you’ll see that the wallpaper is now installed, window blinds are hung, and most of the new classroom doors have arrived. The middle school students are excited about having their own lockers. Unfortunately, some of the locker doors that arrived were the wrong color, so we will wait just a little longer for those to be complete. We are still expecting some furniture to arrive—chairs, desks in the flex classroom, and bookshelves. Keep watching over the next few weeks to see the rest of the building continue to take shape!
