This Week

Is it all up to me? Is anything up to me?
Is your life a pre-planned course of events, already rigged, so the speak? Then what you do or don’t do doesn’t really matter. Is your life all up to you? Then what you do or don’t do determines everything. Which is it? This weekend we begin a three week series on Acts 27—the storms in our lives. We all have had them, are having them, and will have them. Let’s learn from how Paul dealt with a literal storm and ask the Spirit to give us wisdom to weather the storms in our lives. Gather with the saints on Thursday or Sunday to get answers, give praise and receive grace.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Adult Choir returns tonight!
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays in Room 115 to sing for worship on the following dates:

  • Sunday, October 9 (rehearsals will be September 21, 28, and October 5)
  • Sunday, October 30 (rehearsals will be October 12, 19, and 26)

High-school-age and older are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Milestones
Emma Susan Hoppe, daughter of Mitchell & Kimberly Hoppe, was born on Tuesday, September 13, and born again of water and the Word on Thursday, September 15. In an October worship service, the gathered family of St. Andrew will rejoice in and celebrate God’s gifts to her.

Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Family Devotions
For devotions made easy, check out WELS Family Devotions. They are released every 2 – 3 days, and you can have them delivered right to your inbox. God bless all the ways you nurture the precious faith God has graciously given to you.

Christian Life Resources
We May Know is the theme for the Christian Life Resources national convention on Saturday, October 15, at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson, Wisconsin. Go here to register and find more information.

Impact
The origin of Satan is a bit of a mystery. His presence in our world today, however, is no mystery. The defeat of Satan is no mystery either. It is a fact. Listen to Pastor Erich Schaser from Fox Valley Lutheran High School explain details from Revelation 12. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
If you have a little one 3 or younger, check out this enriching ministry. PowerHour is for children and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. For more details about PowerHour, click here. The next PowerHour is October 7, and the theme is “Rooms of the House.”

Children’s ministries
Bring your child to a Sunday morning nurture ministry. This week the children will learn about Deborah—the palm tree judge—and give thanks for her God-given wisdom used to help God’s people.
  • Musikgarten | for parents (or a caregiver) and their child up to age 3 (9:20 AM)
  • Plugged into Jesus | Pre-K3 – grade 5 (9:20 AM)
  • Spark | grades 6 – 8 (9:30 AM)
All who attend grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the love he has for them. These important ministries also lay a foundation for developing lives of faithful service to our gracious Lord. No registration is required.

FUEL
FUEL is a high-school-age St. Andrew Growth Group that meets Sundays at 9:30 AM. This ministry provides a place for teens to ask questions and talk about life in light of God’s Word. This week Jack Murphy leads the discussion on reasons to pray.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Window cleaning
We got a good start last week on the windows and look to finish the job this coming Saturday. If you would like to help make our windows squeaky clean, come to church between 9 – 11 AM to join the crew.

Moving help
A few families at St. Andrew have asked about helping to ease the financial burden for Pastor and Michelle Kreuziger as they sell their house in rural Ohio and buy a house in suburban Madison. St. Andrew is limited in what we can do as a church without interfering with their ability to get a loan. However, individuals who wish to help may not face the same restrictions. If you’d like more information about how you might help, please contact our former treasurer, Larry Stolzman. Please don’t read this as a “plea” for help, but more as information for those who wish to offer financial help.

Janitorial care positions
Volunteers fill many, many roles at St. Andrew to carry out this ministry, but some roles we pay people to do. Currently, there are three paid janitorial roles available. This isn’t the regular “heavy lifting” cleaning—we contract Badger Chemical and Supply for the whole building cleaning after school. Here is a list of the paid positions.

  • Part-time daytime janitor | Throughout the school year this janitor refreshes bathrooms, completes general cleaning in the gym and sanctuary, etc.
  • Temporary janitor | Until the daytime janitor role is filled, this flexible and temporary role requires mopping of the kitchen and cleaning of the sanctuary two times a week. This position is a great opportunity for high school students.
  • Full-time Lead Custodian | The Lead Custodian reports to the Director of Properties, oversees the cleaning activities for both Westside Christian School and St. Andrew, schedules and manages the custodial team, orders supplies, and more.

For more information on any of these roles, or to get a position description, please contact Amy Hutter.

September Monthly Mission Partner
This month our mission partner brings us to Brandon, South Dakota. Our prayers and offerings will support a new mission congregation, Sure Foundation Lutheran Church. Pastor Craig Wilke began worship services in Brandon in 2020 with 30 members, and the Spirit has blessed Sure Foundation with 80 members today. This congregation currently worships at a golf course but is in the process of looking for land in the Brandon community. See their website for more information.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Welcome (back) Dana Veers!
Dana is the newest staff member to join our Westside Christian School team as the office assistant. She will support WCS’s principal and administrative assistant by managing DPI reports, Choice and Special Needs Scholarship Program paperwork, and milk and lunch program documentation. She will also assist the staff in ordering supplies and curricular materials and perform other general office tasks as needed. Dana used to be a classroom aide in our pre-K4 room, but left to pursue real estate two years ago. She is looking forward to being back inside the walls of Westside, working with fellow Christians, and is excited to see what her new position brings!

Thank you
Dear St. Andrew and Westside Christian family,

Thank you for the supportive hugs and offers of condolences and for providing flowers for my mother’s funeral on Saturday.

Losing a mother at any age is difficult in this sin-filled world, and I will dearly miss her. However, I have assurance of knowing my mom is now at her Savior’s side in heaven due to her Savior’s victory over sin and death. I am so grateful her mind is now clear and she is able to see her heavenly Father face to face where there is no more mourning or sorrow.

Thanks in Christ,
Kim Gnewuch
