This Week

Comfort
It’s one thing to know the “why” of suffering, but even if you manage to get that answer (which many don’t), it still leaves you with the “how” question: how do I get through this? The answer is, of course, comfort. Job helps us get the “why” but even more he helps us get the “how”—how do I find comfort? His friends? Not so much. Our Savior? Absolutely. Read the conversation between Job and one of his friends in Job, chapters 5 & 6. Then gather with your fellow comfort-seekers on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM. Maybe it’s for you. Maybe it’s to help you become a better comforter to others. Maybe it’s both.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Daily Devotion
Your faith is a precious gift from God. One way to nurture your precious faith is through a daily devotion. Here is a link to WELS Daily Devotions. You can subscribe and get them delivered each day.

Growth Group hosts
Are you interested in hosting a Growth Group this spring in your home? Here are the basics:

  • You host, but leading the Bible study is not required (there are others who can do that).
  • 8 – 12 people (depending on your sweet setup)
  • 90 minutes on a weeknight (even Fri-yay!)
  • 8 – 10 week commitment (or until you get sick of them)

Contact Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad for more details.

Impact
Hebrews 2 is loaded with important truths about Jesus. Listen to Pastor Greg Lyon from Wisconsin Lutheran College share insight into these truths. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
The next PowerHour is September 15 at 10:30 AM with the theme “Things That Go!” The PowerHour staff is anxious to welcome you and your child. Children up to age three and their caregivers are invited. Click here for more on PowerHour.

Sunday Children’s Ministries
Musikgarten and Plugged into Jesus are offered each Sunday morning at 9:20. Musikgarten is for children up to age three, and Plugged into Jesus serves children 4K – grade 5.

Musikgarten meets in room 104. Please consider how many adults are in the room when deciding if both parents or one parent will attend from your family.

Plugged into Jesus meets in room 102 (4K – kindergarten) and the gym (grades 1 – 5). There will be a registration form to fill out when you bring your child for the first time.

Send your questions to Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad.

Spark
Growing up has always had its unique challenges for preteens and young teens. This is true today more than ever. Fortunately, we have God’s Word to help guide them. Each week in Spark (grades 6 – 8), the students read through a Bible story and then spend time discussing ways to apply the lessons to their relationships, responsibilities, and recreation. Sparks meets every Sunday morning from 9:30 – 10:15 in room 110.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Mission Trips 2024
The process gets started early! We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves, but two new trips are in the works to two metropolises that start with C. Many more details will be worked out over the next several months, but if you think you might want to be part of the process as a planner, organizer, trip leader, or helper for a national trip or Mission Madison, please contact Pastor Clinton.

Monthly Mission Partner
Preparing to be a called worker in the public ministry of the gospel is no small task. It involves at least a college degree and often ministerial education at the high school level. St. Andrew offers financial assistance to those who attend one of these schools that prepares them for those callings: Luther Preparatory School in Watertown; Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota; and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon. Three St. Andrew individuals are in that pipeline currently.

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. September’s video arrived a little early. It describes our synod convention that recently took place. Some of the updates include the plan for new churches in this country and the gospel spread in places like Africa and Vietnam. View the video below.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Westside Stride
Westside Christian School will be holding its 3rd annual Westside Stride (a.k.a. fun run) on Friday, September 29. The purpose of this event is to foster an active community that believes in working together for the good of our school and to promote healthy lifestyle choices all for the glory of God. Students will have an opportunity to work together and encourage one another. In 2023, WCS will be using Westside Stride proceeds to support the following: the Friends of Westside (FOW) annual budget, additional enhancements to our playground, a fund allowing teachers to apply for money for special projects, subsidizing our WCS social events, and extra field trips for our students. Parents, grandparents, and others are welcome to attend and cheer everyone on!

WCS soccer team
This hardworking group of athletes showed determination and teamwork at the Eastside Cup soccer tournament last weekend. They finished in 2nd place, with a record of 2-0-1. They all had a great time and are thankful for the parents and families who came to cheer them on!
