This Week
Farewell to Romans
Finishing a book of the Bible is a big deal. It’s been God’s source of truth and inspiration for us for all of 2024. We’ll miss you, Romans. But not really. We still have and we still need the message of Jesus we find in Romans. It’s not going anywhere, except going more deeply into your hearts as you read it again. The Holy Spirit-inspired Paul, in his closing words of his letter to the church in Rome, contrasts foolishness and wisdom. Read Romans 16:17-27 and gather with your brothers and sisters on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at either 8 AM or 10:30 AM to receive wisdom to live by.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Covenant of Grace
In our next worship series, we’ll give glory to God by digging deeply into the record of Noah and the flood found in Genesis 6 – 9. Why six weeks on the flood? Next to creation, it’s the greatest geological event in the history of our world. It occupies a prominent place in the Bible. It receives more space than creation. It is referred to by many Biblical characters, writers, and by Jesus himself. May our study of God’s Word help those who are troubled by “seemingly irreconcilable conflicts between Genesis and geology.” More than that, though, in these chapters we see God’s view of sin and a demonstration of God’s mercy. Start reading Genesis 6 – 9 now to prepare for the series that begins on Thursday, September 19, and on Sunday, September 22.
Adult choir resumes September 11
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays in the Soul Café to sing for worship on:
- Sunday, September 29 (rehearsals will be September 11, 18, & 25).
- Sunday, November 3 (rehearsals will be October 16, 23, & 30).
- Sunday, December 15 (rehearsals will be December 4 & 11).
High school-aged and older are welcome to attend. Interested in participating? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
One-year Bible reading
Have you ever tried to read through the entire Bible in one year? Were you successful? Are you ready to try again? That type of reading plan is coming to St. Andrew, sort of. The Story of God’s Love is a summary of the Bible. It is written chronologically and includes something from every book of the Bible in its 250 daily readings. Details are coming on how you can read through this entire book with others from St. Andrew.
A Morning for Your Marriage
An all-new A Morning for Your Marriage is October 19 from 9:00 – 11:00 at St. Andrew. Whether you have been married for one year or fifty-one years, whether you have attended in the past or not, this enrichment for married couples led by Pastor Hunter will help you find more joy in each other and give more glory to God through your marriage. Register here by October 13. Childcare will be provided.
Moms’ Group
A group of moms (and their young children) from St. Andrew gets together every other Tuesday morning for friendship and encouragement. September 17 is their next outing. Contact Paige Fricke for the details.
Impact podcast
One of Jesus’ best-known miracles is the raising of Lazarus. This true story teaches us so much that we are devoting three episodes to it. Our guest is Professor Steve Geiger from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
PowerHour
Come and visit a farmers’ market at the next PowerHour! PowerHour is a children’s ministry that serves children and their caregivers. Children up to school-age are welcome. Our next PowerHour is Friday, September 20, in the gymnasium. Please note the new time: 10:15 – 11:15 AM. Go here to learn more.
Sunday morning children’s ministries
God’s Word is for all people, and that certainly includes children. St. Andrew has Sunday morning ministries that feed children from birth through high school with God’s precious Word. Registration is not necessary.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Radically ordinary hospitality
St. Andrew called workers regularly attend various meetings and conferences to share ideas and learn with leaders of other local sister churches. One concept that came up recently is “radically ordinary hospitality.” The thought is that a great first step in reaching the unbelieving world is for them to see you as friendly neighbors. Do they? If you invited a neighbor to church, would his or her first question be, “Who are you?” Guests do sometimes just show up for worship at St. Andrew, but many of them have a personal connection. Maybe it could be you, and maybe it can start with radically ordinary hospitality. Consider in prayer whether intentional neighborly kindness could be a ministry for you.
School bus route driver opportunity
The St. Andrew/Our Redeemer bus route to Lakeside Lutheran High School is looking for a driver for both before and after school routes. Every school day, you leave St. Andrew at 6:35 AM. LLHS provides a vehicle for travel back home. In the afternoon, you return to Lakeside to depart by 3:15 PM, driving the bus back to St. Andrew, arriving about 4:15 PM. No experience is required, training is provided, and test fees are paid. Contact Transportation Manager Eric Haley ([email protected]) for more information.
Prison ministry volunteer opportunity
WELS Prison Ministry recently began distributing Bible correspondence courses digitally to inmates. The response has been significant, and the result is lots of opportunities to be a test corrector. This ministry can be done from home and does not involve any direct mail contact with the inmates. Correctors are asked to review tests in batches of 15 and return them to the Prison Ministry office in a timely fashion. Initially, correctors will receive and return the tests by mail, but the goal is to convert much of the correcting to an online option within the next year. If you would like to get more information or get involved, contact [email protected].
Monthly Mission Partner
Our September Mission Partner is our Ministerial Education Fund. This is St. Andrew’s effort to ease the financial burden of those attending schools that prepare them for the public full-time ministry. Right now, Kylie Roekle and Seth Veers are students at Martin Luther College, studying to be teachers, and Andrew Fritz is at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, preparing for pastoral ministry. Please pray for them and all who desire to serve in full-time public ministry roles.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
It’s an adventure!
Last Thursday, the middle school students of Westside Christian School went on a retreat. Expeditions Unlimited in Baraboo was the destination. The purpose was to build a sense of unity among the students, parents, and teachers through different activities and games. They not only spent the day there, but it was an overnighter too. They returned to Westside around 2 PM on Friday afternoon. From 2 – 3 PM Friday, it was mysteriously quiet on the middle school end of the building. It probably had something to do with the amount of sleep the students and chaperones got the night before. All those involved enjoyed themselves and are already looking forward to next year’s retreat. |
