This Week

True rest
We might go to our friends for support or fun, but when it comes to truth, we rely on what God reveals in his Word. Some of Jesus’ words in Matthew 11:20-30 are not easy or pleasant, but they are true. And God is good, so Jesus doesn’t leave it there; he tells us where we can find rest—in him alone. Join us for worship on Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Call issued
Pastor Stephen Apt has received the call to serve as Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision at St. Andrew. Below is the letter he sent late last week.

Dear members of St. Andrew,

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge that on Thursday, August 28, I received the call to be Lead Pastor of Preaching and Vision. It is incredibly humbling to consider such a call as this. The Savior has certainly blessed the faithful gospel work that has been and continues to be done there. Thank you for trusting me with this call to deliberate.

Over the next several weeks, I will be examining where my gifts lie, and where I can best use those gifts to reach more people for kingdom growth. My prayer is that through all of this, more and more people’s lives are changed as they come to know the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection through our churches and schools. For now, I ask that you continue to keep my family and me in your daily prayers as I deliberate. Specifically for clarity on how I can use my gifts, wisdom in applying those gifts, and peace through this entire process. I’m looking forward to talking to you all.

God bless,
Stephen Apt

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
This week the front vestibule will be demolished so the connection can begin from the old building to the new building. Exterior light poles were also delivered, so we should have parking lot lights very soon. There has also been a lot of landscaping done—new grass, trees, and plants have been planted around the grounds.

Construction on Parmenter Street continues. To get to St. Andrew, it is recommended to take one of these alternate routes:

  • From the north, County Road K to Church Road to Schneider Road
  • From the south, Airport Road to Capitol View Road to Schneider Road

On evenings after 6:30 and weekends you can use one of the routes above or take Highway 12 to the Parmenter Street Exit #249 and drive around the barriers. We will keep you updated as we learn more and appreciate your patience.

Pledge confirmation request
Westside Christian School is undergoing its annual audit as part of its participation in the Wisconsin School Choice Program. As part of this process, our auditors are reaching out to confirm A Place of Peace pledge balances as of June 30, 2024, and June 30, 2025, related to our ongoing capital campaign. (The audit covers two years, hence confirmation of the June 2024 balance.)

If you’ve made a pledge, you possibly did or will receive a confirmation request regarding your balance and anticipated payment schedule as of June 30, 2024 and 2025. You’ll be asked to verify your records and reply directly to our auditor, Whitney Wagner at Reilly, Penner & Benton LLP, via email at [email protected].

Your timely response is greatly appreciated. For questions, feel free to email Financial Administrator Ron Kerr or call 608-219-8149.

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Milestones
Kira Ann Marshall, daughter of Neil and Kim and little sister of Layla, was born last month and was baptized into the kingdom this past weekend. We praise God for the gift of life and the salvation and new life he works in baptism. God bless the Marshalls as they teach Kira to love God, love each other, and serve the world.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Final call for addresses for St. Andrew college students. Please send addresses to Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad, or grab an address card from the atrium or write it on your Connection Card. Please do this by September 10. Thank you for helping us serve these precious souls.

Impact podcast
The Church is well prepared for the end times—in which we now live—because the Holy Spirit is empowering it. This week’s episode has more on this topic with Professor Luke Thompson from Martin Luther College. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Letter of gratitude from Monthly Mission Partner
Below is an excerpt of a letter our May partner sent.

Dear St. Andrew members,

On behalf of Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel and Student Center, I would like to extend our warmest thanks for the recent gift of $5,404.95. We are so blessed by your generous support of our chapel ministry. We deeply appreciate your gift!

I pray that God will continue to bless your church and school through his love and mercy!

Peace in Jesus,

Jon Bilitz

Monthly Mission Partner
Our September Mission Partner is our Ministerial Education Fund. This is St. Andrew’s effort to ease the financial burden of those attending schools that prepare them for the public full-time ministry. This year, one of those five students is Andrew Fritz, who sent the following recently:

I wanted to thank you for your love and support that you have given me not only this year, but ever since I was a little kid. Some of the courses I have been taking this year are Greek and Hebrew, teaching confirmation, and dogmatics (teaching what the Bible teaches).

Only Jesus makes the unworthy worthy!

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Wave teams
Students always look forward to the days that Westside Christian School has Wave teams. Wave teams are groups of students from each grade that gather in an assigned classroom to have a short devotion and then complete a project. Wave teams get together once a month for about 30 minutes. Eighth grade students are the leaders of their Wave teams—they pick up the younger students and get them to their assigned classrooms. It is truly a wonderful experience for all of our students.

Connections
Connections is a new program that was started last school year. The objective is to get members of St. Andrew that do not have a connection with the school to come into the school and get to know the students in the 3rd grade. This year we have 38 3rd grade students, so we need many volunteers who are willing to share 45 minutes of their time on October 3, playing games and getting to know the kids. If you are interested in participating in Connections, please reach out to Mrs. Beth Plath, one of our 3rd grade teachers, at beth.plath@westside-christian.org, or call/text her at 612.616.1760.
