This Sunday

An irresistible force meets an immovable object
Paul and Barnabas sail from Antioch (Syria) and to the island of Cyprus, about 130 miles westward into the Mediterranean Sea. Imagine their excitement. But one of the first people they met was an agent of Satan who does his best to discredit the message of Jesus. Now imagine their confusion.  Which will win, the agent of Satan or the agent of God? The answer matters because you, too, are an agent of God commissioned to take the gospel to others. You, too, will encounter agents of Satan. Read the account in Acts 13:4-12 and gather with your fellow agents of God to get ready to be sent out. Greet the saints on Thursday at 7:00 PM or on Sunday at 8:00 or 10:30 AM.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Milestones
Welcome, Lori Dorn and Brenda Redeppening. Lori is a familiar face around here and we are thrilled to welcome her as a member. Lori works for a law firm and is married to Greg. Brenda is an administrator for a non-profit organization and is marrying Jake Miller in January. If you don’t see them sitting together in worship, it’s not that they’re avoiding each other. Jake regularly serves us in the AV booth.

Worship

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

FUEL
God’s Word has lots of help for teens with anxieties and worries (and that’s pretty much all of them). At FUEL on Sunday, we will continue reaching into the Word for the stress relief it offers. FUEL meets at 9:30 AM every Sunday and is for all St. Andrew high school students. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.

Celebrate Recovery
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place” (Psalm 118:5). The writer is saying the Lord brought him to recovery. If you or a loved one is feeling “hard pressed,” consider Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery is at St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.

Impact
You should have the same attitude as Jesus. In other words, live as a humble servant. This comes from Paul’s fantastic teaching in Philippians 2, featured on this week’s St. Andrew podcast, Impact. New Impact episodes are released every Monday. Past episodes are also available. Give Impact a listen and share this nurture resource with others.

WELS Campus Ministry
When your college student is away from home, encourage him or her to stay connected to Jesus. He is their most important relationship. Check out WELS Campus Ministry to see what is available.

Musikgarten
This music ministry is Sundays at 9:20 AM. Caregivers and infants through age three are welcome! Each child receives their own kit of rhythm instruments to be used week to week. Contact Karen Hong with your questions.

Plugged into Jesus
PIJ is Sundays at 9:20 AM for Pre-K3 – grade 5. Here is a home activity idea for the Zacchaeus balloon toss: Every time a family member or friend hits the balloon to keep it in the air, say, “Jesus loves you.” If the balloon falls to the ground, say, “Jesus forgives you.” Use this link to watch the Zacchaeus lesson.

“A Crushing Truth: Jesus is Crucified” will be this week’s lesson. Each student has their own activity kit to use each week. Invite a friend for in-person fun! Virtual kits are always available. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Middle School
We hear that Jesus died for the sins of the world. What does that mean for me? Grades 6 – 8 meet in room 106 at 9:30 AM on Sundays for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

October Monthly Mission Partner
Citrus Grove Church, our home mission in Wesley Chapel, Florida, is our October Monthly Mission Partner. This mission meets to grow people in the Word as Jesus makes hearts healthier and lives more fruitful. At Citrus Grove Church, God himself does the gardening. Donations to Citrus Grove Church go directly to support the church’s work in southern Florida.

St. Andrew giving thanks | Top 10 for MOM
We are partnering with Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) as our way of giving thanks and serving our community this holiday. MOM hopes to serve hundreds of households this Thanksgiving and gave us their list of Top 10 needed items. Labeled boxes for each item will be in the atrium for you to fill October 14 – November 7.  The Top 10 items are: wild rice, non-dairy shelf milk, canned coconut milk, canned mandarin oranges, canned beets, olive oil, curry powder, hot sauce, laundry detergent, and gluten-free elbow macaroni.

We are so blessed with gifts of love from God and this is just one way we can give back.  If you have any questions about this ministry, please contact TLC member Karen Teske-Osborne.

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:40

Connections
Soon, the connection cards will be returning to the worship folders. Filling out these cards each week is a simple, yet highly effective form of outreach. Guests are more likely to fill out a card if they see others doing it as well. If you have been worshiping online, please continue to check-in on the website. Jesus said, “Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”  Connections keep us growing in Christ as we worship, study, and pray for each other.

Pumpkin patch
Have you noticed the beautiful pumpkin patch that sprung up at our entrance? Take a stroll and enjoy!  And thanks to the gardeners who created it.

A message from Matt Morely
Dear St. Andrew,

One month ago, I simultaneously experienced both the unluckiest and luckiest day of my life. Given the specific circumstance of how my vehicle struck the oncoming semi, I lean towards the latter. To provide a brief update, considering what could have been, I am doing pretty well. My biggest complaints relate to my head trauma (loss of hearing, persistent headaches, fatigue, and/or sleeplessness) but I am told with time these symptoms should resolve themselves. Once again, yet another reason I consider myself to be extremely lucky.

You are receiving this letter as a sincere thank you for everything and anything you did to reach out to myself or Emily throughout the course of my accident and recovery. The amount of get well calls, texts, cards, gifts, prayers, meals, well wishes, or extended helping hands were and continue to be overwhelming. I am especially grateful for everything that was done for Emily and Scarlett, Carter, Beckett, and James while I was in the hospital or recovery. It’s not lost on me that although my experience of the accident was physically traumatic, Emily’s August 19th and the days that followed were just as challenging.

Please know I will never forget the amount of outreach and support I’ve received over the past few weeks. As time passes and I return back into my personal and professional world, I hope to have opportunities to be as kind and generous as you all have been to me and my family.

Sincerely,
Matt Morely

VALUE THE GIFT Convention hosted by Christian Life Resources
Life is a gift. Scripture teaches us that every human is “fearfully and wonderfully made” by the Lord and that he valued each of us enough to send his Son to redeem us. Christian Life Resources is holding a convention October 16 from 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School to inspire our own thoughts and how we can influence others to VALUE THE GIFT of life from beginning to end, today and tomorrow. Presenters include: Prof. Robert Balza PhD, Mrs. Leah Bongard, Pastor Kurt Ebert, Mr. Thomas Frey, and Mrs. Tabitha Schroeder. For a list of topics or to register for this in-person or live-stream convention visit Christian Life Resources.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Westside Stride
Our students and staff will be participating in a fun and healthy fundraiser—The Westside Stride—on October 8, 2021. This event is coordinated by Friends of Westside (Westside’s parent-teacher group). The event is meant to include the entire Westside Christian School community in a fun and healthy activity. The students will learn about healthy habits and the benefits of exercise and have a great time running, walking, and doing the chicken dance with a visiting DJ. Funds raised from the Westside Stride will be used to expand our recreational areas for students by purchasing basketball hoops and new playground equipment. You can view our school fundraising website and donate here.

Furniture Assembly
More of the furniture for our building expansion continues to arrive each week! We are hoping to find a person or two to help assemble some cubbies and bookshelves. There is a chance other items may arrive yet this week that would also require assembly. Any of this work can be done in the evenings or over the weekend. Please contact Stacy Bernd for more information if this is a way you could share your abilities and serve at WCS.
