This Week
Back to the Word again
Our celebration of the Reformation this weekend is less about lauding Martin Luther and company and more about maintaining God’s Word as is. We thank God for preserving his message of free salvation by grace through faith. The “re-” in “reformation” tells us that we are doing something again or going back to something. With God’s Word, we never need anything new; we only need to go back to it and read it again and again. Join us for an old but life-changing message of God’s grace Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
New speaker system
Our new speaker system was installed this week! When you come to church this weekend, you may notice four new speakers about halfway back in the sanctuary. This new speaker system will allow the back half of the church to hear much better without the front of the church being too loud. It will also be able to travel with us into a new sanctuary space in the future. What a blessing to have technology to allow us to hear, speak, and sing God’s Word even better together.
New livestream time
Beginning Sunday, December 1, we will be changing the livestream time from the 10:30 AM service to the 8:00 AM service. Once the livestream is complete, the service video, sermon video, and sermon audio will be posted on the homepage as it is now. A special thanks to our video techs for their flexibility in switching services.
November worship series
Friendship sustains your life. Some might even be so bold as to say you’ll never make it without friends. We’re bound to have troubles, tragedies, storms, and difficulties, and we’ll sink without friends. All kinds of studies show that the more close friends you have, the better your health and the longer your life expectancy. What about marriage? Of all the benefits of marriage, the friendship in marriage is the one benefit that gets you through.
Why is friendship that important? God made us to need it. When God created all things, he declared everything good, except man alone. That was not good. The man was in paradise with no sickness or death or anything wrong, and he had a perfect relationship with God. But all of that wasn’t enough without deep loving human relationships. The need for friendship was so great, the man was lonely in the middle of the Garden of Eden. God made us to need others. Friendship: if you have it, it makes your life. If you don’t have it, it breaks your life. For three weeks of our worship together, starting November 10, we’ll turn to famous friendships in the Bible and ask God to teach us about the importance, the power, and the possibility of friendship. Bring a friend!
Milestones
The last week saw the baptisms of four children: Calvin, Adelyn, and Corinne Samz and Wes Miller. With them and their families we celebrate the grace and forgiveness God has given them through water and the Word. May our loving God continue to draw them closer to himself as they live to serve Christ, in whom they have been clothed.
Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Nurture resources
Next time you are in the atrium, walk slowly by the free stuff. You might find something worth reading. Included are two wonderful resources for nurturing faith. Forward In Christ is a magazine filled with inspiring faith stories, articles that help you understand Scripture, and more. Meditations is a booklet with relevant daily devotions. Help yourself.
Impact podcast
All have sinned. All are justified. Translation: God sent Jesus to clear us of our ugly record. Pastor Don Schultz from Lakeside Lutheran High School is here to explain how he did that. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
PowerHour
Construction is the theme at the next PowerHour! PowerHour is a children’s ministry that serves children and their caregivers. Children up to school-age are welcome. The next PowerHour is Friday, November 1, 10:15 – 11:15, in the gymnasium. Go here to learn more.
LifeBoat
LifeBoat is a fun ministry for teens in grades 7 – 10 that gets together at St. Andrew on the first and third Sundays each month from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Food is served, games are played, and God’s Word is shared. LifeBoat meets again on November 3.
FUEL
All high school students are welcome to attend FUEL on Sunday mornings. FUEL gives high school students a safe place to ask questions, talk about life, and hang out with their peers. Encourage your teen to be part of this important ministry. FUEL meets at 9:30 in room 114.

- Pasta (spaghetti) sauce
- Canned beans (all varieties)
- Canned fruit (all varieties)

“Voting is your civic duty”
You have heard this phrase many times, but it’s true. Next week is a presidential election, and this nation elects its officials who are, strictly speaking, representatives. Go ahead and exercise your right, your duty. But what has your nation done for you so that you have a duty to it? You can probably produce many good answers to that question, but do any of them compare to what your God has done for you? You have wonderful privileges and responsibilities in the spiritual realm too. If you think of your service to your country as obligatory or dutiful, then how do you think of your service in the kingdom of God? In which is your citizenship more important?
Recurring service role for 10:30 worshipers
In a minor shuffling of some duties, a new role will be created that involves some simple organization and basic computer use. These tasks will be after 10:30 worship services. Contact Pastor Clinton to help establish this team.
Paid bus driving opportunity between Westside and Lakeside
The St. Andrew/Our Redeemer bus route to Lakeside Lutheran High School is still looking for a driver for both before and after school routes. The time commitment is roughly 6:30 – 8:15 and 2:30 – 4:15 on school days. A second vehicle is provided for you to go about your day between the shifts. Contact [email protected] for more information.
Monthly Mission Partner
Our November partner is Christian Aid and Relief, specifically for hurricane relief. After Helene and Milton caused billions of dollars of damage and took many lives, this is a way we can respond and show the love of Christ, even to those far away who face crises that are largely unknown to us. Find out more about CAR’s ministry at wels.net/relief.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
It’s teacher call season again
Each fall on or about October 15, it is open season for finding teachers for the many WELS schools around our nation. On October 17, Westside Christian School issued a call for a School Music Director and a Children’s Ministry Director. This is a unique position as it involves both the school and the church. Mrs. Amy Herkstroeter from Fond du Lac was called for that position. She has an extensive music background and was very eager to hear about the ministry at Westside/St. Andrew. Please keep Amy and her family in your prayers!
On October 24, Mr. Karl Kuschel, our middle school math teacher at Westside, received a call from Hope Christian Academy in Westland, Michigan. The call is for middle school math, religion, and physical education. He would also be the assistant athletic director. Please pray for Karl and his family as he considers this call. Do not hesitate to share your thoughts about his role at Westside and the ministry we currently have here.
Teachers taught by others
The Westside Christian School teachers headed to Milwaukee for the annual WELS Wisconsin State Teachers’ Conference last Thursday and Friday. Teachers’ conferences can be difficult for teachers. Teachers are used to running a classroom, moving around the room, and making sure the students are engaged. But, at teachers’ conference, the shoe is on the other foot. Teachers are supposed to be the ones listening and learning from the speakers.
This year’s speakers were outstanding, and listening to them was not a problem! On Thursday morning, teachers were fully engaged in a keynote presentation by Dr. Joe Sanfelippo, the National Superintendent of the Year in 2019. For over an hour he had the teachers fully involved in his presentation and encouraged them to make a difference at their school by changing the culture. Simple things that may only take 30 seconds can be done to improve school culture. |
