This Week
What came out of the ark
When circumstances force you to rearrange your budget, you still only have so many dollars. When you take a stand in hopes of some kind of a reset, you are still only one person. Ultimately, you don’t have much control, and you’re usually going to be working with the same resources you had before. How much difference was there between what went into the ark and what came out of it? In some ways a lot, but in other ways very little. We can find peace in the God who knew the flood was coming and had a plan for it. Join us for worship Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Health update
Dear brothers and sisters,
I have been hospitalized since last Saturday for a pulmonary embolism (blood clots in my lungs). Doctors are unable to say what may have provoked this; sometimes such a reason is never found. I am healing, though, and the prognosis is good. Pain, and therefore the need for pain meds, is lessening each day. Oxygen levels are increasing. If this follows a normal path, I should see minimal symptoms in a week or two. I know, I know. You’re thinking, “Odd for such a young man.”
As one of you commented, “I’ll pray for your healing, but either way you’re in the ark.” Such is our confidence because of Jesus’ life and death. Please join me in asking the Lord Jesus to grant healing for my body just as he has granted healing for our souls.
I look forward to returning soon as your pastor, teacher, and friend.
God bless,
Pastor Hunter

Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Milestones
Our sister in Christ, Dorothy Powers, went to glory on October 10 at the age of 94. We rejoice in her eternal victory and continue to pray for her family as they mourn their earthly loss. Funeral plans are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
The Story of God’s Love
You may have seen a high stack of books in the atrium last Sunday. That stack has disappeared as 110 people from St. Andrew grabbed their books to begin a 50-week reading plan that will take them through The Story of God’s Love, a summary of the Bible. It is our prayer that God gives to all readers of his Word an abundance of grace, hope, strength, wisdom, and more.

Impact podcast
The resurrection of Jesus is a sign that Jesus is who he says he is: the Son of God and your Savior from sin and death. Jesus called it “the sign of Jonah.” Professor Paul Koelpin from Martin Luther College is here to help us learn. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Recurring service role for 10:30 worshipers
In a minor shuffling of some duties, a new role will be created that involves some simple organization and basic computer use. These tasks will be after 10:30 worship services. Contact Pastor Clinton to help establish this team.
An election is coming
We encourage you to read the article “When politics drives you crazy” from the October issue of Forward in Christ (available in the atrium), but allow a brief summary of its thoughts. First, acknowledge that God-fearing Christians belong to every political party. Then realize that no single party or candidate represents the kingdom of God. Christians stand both in the kingdom of this world and God’s kingdom. That reality is neither tidy nor simple, and it creates tension and difficult decisions. Navigate them with prayer and with grace for your brothers and sisters who ultimately make different choices.
St. Andrew online giving transition
The transition of online giving from CCB to Pushpay is now underway. If you have a recurring schedule of online offerings through CCB, you should have received an email last week from Pushpay and the St. Andrew Financial Team with instructions for migrating your scheduled giving to Pushpay. Please follow the instructions to cancel your recurring gift in CCB and reschedule it in Pushpay at your earliest convenience. If your giving is linked to your bank account, you will need to provide your bank’s routing number. Here is a list of local banks and their routing numbers. Our thanks to those who have already completed this process. (Please note that this transition is required by Pushpay, which is now the parent company of CCB).
If you do not give recurring offerings online through CCB, no action is required.
Contact [email protected] with any questions.

Paid bus driving opportunity—it’s easier than it looks!
The St. Andrew/Our Redeemer bus route to Lakeside Lutheran High School is looking for a driver for both before and after school routes. The job is roughly 6:30 AM – 4:15 PM on school days, but the bulk of that is free time for you. A second vehicle is provided for you to go about your day between the shifts. Contact [email protected] for more information.
Monthly Mission Partner
WayForward Resources is our October partner. This local organization provides several social services to the western Dane County area, including hosting a large food pantry. St. Andrew will be participating in a food drive later this fall. Look for details soon. Find more information about WayForward (formerly Middleton Outreach Ministries) at their website.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Call issued
This past Thursday evening, the voters of St. Andrew issued a call to Mrs. Amy Herkstroeter. The position for which she was called is School Music Program Director for Westside Christian School and Children’s Ministry Director for St. Andrew.
As the School Music Program Director, she would help to establish a school wide music curriculum, teach middle school music, and generally assist in continuing a strong music program at WCS.
A major focus as the Children’s Ministry Director would be the summer camp. Another responsibility would be to work with the Sunday morning Plugged into Jesus program.
Currently, Mrs. Herkstroeter and her husband live in the Fond du Lac area. Mr. Herkstroeter works remotely for Grace in Action. Please keep Mrs. Herkstroeter in your prayers as she considers this change in ministry. Ask the Lord of the church to give her wisdom and clarity in where she can best use her talents. |
