This Sunday
An inconvenient truth
Aren’t facts bothersome? Your doctor, mechanic, or accountant tell you, “This is the way it is.” You wish it wasn’t, but you can’t deny the fact. We’ve come to the first of three of Paul’s sermons recorded in the Book of Acts, and it deals with facts of Jesus. Some people found the facts very inconvenient, just like some people today. But stay with Paul’s sermon and you will hear what the facts mean and how they’re fulfilled. Then and now, it’s God’s message to bring people into his kingdom and keep us there. Read Acts 13:13-52 and then gather with others to consider the facts of Jesus and what they mean. We call it worship.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
St. Andrew giving thanks | Top 10 for MOM
We are partnering with Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) as our way of giving thanks and serving our community this holiday. MOM does not refuse any person asking for help, and this year MOM anticipates demand to be higher than most. We are collecting MOM’s Top 10 items needed this Thanksgiving. Labeled boxes for each item will be in the atrium for you to fill October 14 – November 7. The Top 10 items are: wild rice, non-dairy shelf milk, canned coconut milk, canned mandarin oranges, canned beets, olive oil, curry powder, hot sauce, gluten-free elbow macaroni, and laundry detergent.
Another way to help is with a monetary gift. A gift of $20 provides a Thanksgiving meal for a local family. If you wish to donate a gift card, check, or cash, please place it in an offering envelope marked MOM and drop it in the collection basket or the secure drop box located at the Welcome Center. Online donations can be made here—select “Other Offering” as your designation choice.
We are so blessed with gifts of love from God, and this is just one way we can give back. If you have any questions about this ministry, please contact TLC member Karen Teske-Osborne.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Call news
Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs received a divine call on Sunday afternoon to Divine Savior Church & Academy in Liberty Hill, Texas (near Austin) to serve as Staff Minister of Music. The Spirit has now allowed Naomi two calls: one to serve here at St. Andrew as your Minister of Worship and the other to Divine Savior. Over the next few weeks, she will deliberate between these two calls, learn about the ministry in Liberty Hill, and spend much time in prayer. Please keep her in your prayers over the next few weeks as she considers how and where God is calling her to serve. She welcomes any comments, thoughts, or advice from her St. Andrew family as well, whether in person, or via email or phone. Feel free to contact her at Naomi Laabs or (920)277-4633.
Adult choir begins in November
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM, November 10, 17, and December 1, to sing for worship on Sunday, December 5. Milestones
On October 7, the Lord presented the gift of Ender William Alexander to mom and dad Kali (Fobes) and Kevin Alexander. He entered the world at 8 lbs., 1 oz., and 18.5 inches. He and mom are doing well and at home. We join Kevin and Kali in thanking God for this good gift and in looking forward, the gifts the Spirit will give Ender in Holy Baptism on Sunday, October 31.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
FUEL
God’s Word has lots of help for teens with anxieties and worries (and that’s pretty much all of them). At FUEL on Sunday, we will continue reaching into the Word for the stress relief it offers. FUEL meets at 9:30 AM every Sunday and is for all St. Andrew high school students. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.
Celebrate Recovery
“When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place” (Psalm 118:5). The writer is saying the Lord brought him to recovery. If you or a loved one is feeling “hard pressed,” consider Celebrate Recovery. Celebrate Recovery is at St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.
Impact—A St. Andrew podcast
Whether you like to camp or not, you are living in a tent right now. But one day, you’ll move to a mansion! Christians live with that perspective and what a difference it makes. Listen to Pastor David Wenzel from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton talk 2 Corinthians in this week’s episode. New Impact episodes are released every Monday. Past episodes are also available. Give Impact a listen and share this nurture resource with others.
PowerHour
PowerHour is this Friday! PowerHour is for children up to age 3 with an adult. Come for play, songs, stories, God’s Word, and a snack-to-go. Feel free to invite a friend or family member. PowerHour meets in the gym at 10:30 AM on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month.

Middle School
Those first at Jesus’ empty grave rushed to tell others. Who needs to hear in your world? Grades 6 – 8 meet in room 106 at 9:30 AM on Sundays for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.
Thank you
Martin Luther College sent a thank you to St. Andrew for your gift of $1,000 to the MLC Congregational Partner Grant Program. This money has been matched by MLC and applied to the account of St. Andrew member Seth Veers, who is a freshman at MLC. Gifts like this support ministry training and serve as an encouragement to the staff and students at Martin Luther College.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
October Monthly Mission Partner
Citrus Grove Church, our home mission in Wesley Chapel, Florida, is our October Monthly Mission Partner. This mission meets to grow people in the Word as Jesus makes hearts healthier and lives more fruitful. At Citrus Grove Church, God himself does the gardening. Donations to Citrus Grove Church go directly to support the church’s work in southern Florida.
St. Andrew Giving Tree
Do you know of a family that has been hit particularly hard this year and might benefit from our help? Are you that family in need? TLC is gathering names of families that might benefit from gift cards from our church family. These names will be kept anonymous and placed on our Giving Tree this Christmas season. Please forward names and contact information to Bonnie Shattuck or Curt Kephart by October 24. Confidential letters will be sent to nominated families to learn of their interest in participating. “Give, and it will be given to you.” Luke 6:38
Connections through Community Church Builder
Approximately seven years ago, St. Andrew committed to acquiring software that could keep us connected as a growing congregation. A decision was reached to purchase a resource which members could use to stay in touch, participate in Growth Groups, and find opportunities to serve. Church Community Builder (CCB) became that resource. To ensure that your information is not being used for internet marketing, CCB requires a login with your own password. CCB also provides a resource for identifying any of the over 160 opportunities for service at St. Andrew and beyond. Take some time to explore all the features of CCB, and if you have any questions, please contact Amy Hutter.
Mission Trips 2022
Do you find yourself enthusiastically discussing what is going on around the globe? Do you enjoy working with things and/or with people? Are you mission minded? Mission Trips may be for you! Mission Trip planning for 2022 is underway. Our planning team is working diligently to create productive and fun trips to Madison, Wisconsin; Brandon, South Dakota; Wesley Chapel, Florida; Seattle, Washington; and Mahahual, Mexico. Interested adults, teens, and families should watch the Weekly for more information and plan to attend a Mission Trip informational meeting in January. Questions can be directed to Amy Kohlstedt, Mission Trip coordinator. “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25
The Love of Christ (TLC) Ministry update
We have shared with you the importance of staying connected and sharing prayer requests. Our team of volunteers keeps brothers and sisters in Christ surrounded in prayer. Over the next few weeks, we’ll share feedback and thank you notes from those impacted by our TLC Ministry.
From former Staff Minister for Nurture David Hochmuth:
Dear friends at St. Andrew TLC,
Thank you for your many cards of encouragement. They lift my spirit because I know they truly are evidence of Jesus’ love for me through you, his faithful servants. I’m doing well physically for the most part. My lymphoma started coming out of remission last fall. This time around I was prescribed an oral chemotherapy drug which I’ve been on since March. It took several months, but my blood counts are within or near the normal range. In general, my energy level is better, though I easily tire some days.
Because of my compromised immune system, I mostly work from home. The isolation has been an emotional challenge, but prayer, my wonderful wife, your encouragements, and most importantly my Savior are getting me through. Thanks again!—Dave
Do you find yourself blessed and encouraged to jot a note to others? Then you may consider using your gifts and talents in this way. Please contact TLC member, Karen Teske-Osborne, to volunteer.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Westside Stride follow-up
Our students had a blast running, walking, and dancing with a visiting DJ at our Westside Stride last Friday. This fun run included the entire WCS community. All funds raised from the event will be used to expand our recreational areas for students by purchasing basketball hoops and some playground equipment. Fundraising is still open through Friday, October 15. Pledge envelopes can be turned in at the front desk, and online donations can still be made here.
We are so thankful for the many volunteers who were willing to take their time to help our school and made the event happen so smoothly! Fundraising totals will be shared next week. |
