This Week

Words without knowledge
They say God gave you two ears and one mouth so would listen twice as much as you speak. This proverb is not in the Bible, but it makes sense, as long as we’re listening to the right sources. Join us for worship this weekend (Thursday at 7 PM or Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM) to hear some of God’s words of wisdom from Job 38. Wisdom from above can be unexpected and counterintuitive.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Advent by Candlelight
Jesus has been given many wonderful names. At this year’s Advent by Candlelight, women of all ages are invited to reflect on a few of those names in devotion, prayer, song, and fellowship. Join us on Sunday, December 3, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. Bring a friend. Sign up here.

Also, if you would like to serve as baker, table decorator, or set-up crew member, please contact Nancy Ninman.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Thanksgiving worship
In his beloved hymn “Now Thank We All Our God,” Pastor Martin Rinkart wrote these words of hope during a time of great distress: “All praise and thanks to God the Father now be given, the Son, and him who reigns with them in highest heaven; The one eternal God, whom earth and heaven adore! For thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore.” Come give thanks with us to the God of our past, present, and future this Thanksgiving as we worship the Creator of all things.

  • Wednesday, November 22, at 6:30 PM (livestream available)
  • Thursday, November 23, at 9:00 AM
    (no Thursday evening worship)

Save the date | Children’s Christmas program
Sunday, December 10, the children of St. Andrew and Westside Christian School will present their Christmas program at the Middleton Performing Arts Center. The preschool – grade 1 program will be at 3:30 PM and grades 2 – 8 at 4 PM. Mark your calendars and join us as we reflect on the “Gifts from the Manger.”

If your child attends Plugged into Jesus (Pre-K – grade 8) and is interested in participating in this year’s program, please reach out to Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs. Practice materials can be found here.

Singing opportunities
Blend your voice with others for two upcoming services. The Adult Choir will rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays to sing for worship on the following dates:

  • Sunday, December 10 (8 & 10:30 AM)—rehearsals will be November 29 & December 6
  • Sunday, December 24 (10 AM, 3, 5 PM)—rehearsals will be December 13 & 20

Milestones
Benjamin Luppen, son of Michelle and Brandon Luppen, and Chloe Maxwell, daughter of Rob and Paula Maxwell, received gifts of the Holy Spirit through baptism on Sunday, November 5. The angels rejoiced at their welcome into the family of God, and so do we. May God grant us all the resolve and the opportunities to now teach these children the Word of God that he might confirm their faith.

We are blessed by the ministries of 20 called servants of the Word at St. Andrew. These Spirit-appointed servants handle the Word of God on our behalf, representing Christ and us with it. This year, six of them are celebrating memorable anniversaries. In our worship services this weekend, we will acknowledge their ministries, pray for them, and present each with a gift from St. Andrew.

Pastor Elton Stroh—45 years
Ms. Sue Martalock—30 years

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

ABC’s from God’s Word
The precious faith that God has given you is nurtured through the powerful Word of God. A new nurture resource written by our Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad is available in the atrium. Take a copy for yourself. Take a copy to share. It is our prayer that ABC’s from God’s Word will increase your understanding of Scripture, so that it has a greater impact on your life. If you would like an e-version sent to you, contact Mr. KJ.

New Growth Group
The human body is the pinnacle of God’s creation. St. Andrew is offering a new Growth Group called Made in His Image that will explore complexities of the human body. We will watch and discuss a short video each week that highlights the incredible way God put us together. This group will meet on Fridays from 8 – 9 AM (November 10 and 17 & December 1 and 8) in the Soul Café. Click here to sign up.

Small Talk
Small Talk is back! A new episode with Emmett is now available. Listen to Emmett and host Rachel Kamin talk about the true story of David and Goliath. You can listen here or wherever you listen to podcasts. Search “Small Talk Kamin.” You can’t listen to Small Talk without smiling!

Impact
Jesus is not all talk. When he says your sins are forgiven, they really are. Listen to Pastor Clinton talk about how the narrowing purpose of Jesus’ ministry landed him on the cross to pay for your sins. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Plugged into Jesus
Plugged into Jesus kids are singing in both services on Sunday, November 19. Contact Renee Carlson with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

November food & clothing drive
Part of St. Andrew’s mission is to serve the world. The world includes faraway places most of us will never visit. It also includes our immediate community. Help us serve those who struggle to keep themselves fed and warm by participating in this drive. At the end of the month, we will donate all items to Way Forward Resources, a local organization that has a constant need for more food and clothing to distribute. Until then, please bring your bagged or boxed items into the sanctuary and place them in front of the altar. Bring them before/after worship or throughout the week.

Food must not be opened or expired (please check) and must not require refrigeration. Clothing must be clean and new or gently used. Undergarments must be new. Please visit Way Forward’s website for more specific information and ideas.

Thank you from the Bohls
Dear St. Andrew Family,

Our family has been so humbled by your generosity and kindness over the past four months. We greatly appreciated the gift cards and gifts when we arrived and more recently, the winter clothing drive you did for us. The donations and gift cards will make dressing our family of six for winter a whole lot easier.

We look forward to continuing to serve alongside you in the gospel ministry. We feel like we have been here forever with how quickly we have been welcomed.

God bless,
The Bohl Family

The “Bohl Box” was a St. Andrew Growth Group project. If your Growth Group is looking for service project ideas, please contact Pastor Clinton.

Flexible part-time job
God has blessed St. Andrew and Westside Christian School with a wonderful facility. Keeping it clean and tidied is a large task, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming for any one person. If you have a little extra time, even just a few hours a week, and would like to earn some extra money, consider picking up some janitorial hours. All your training will be provided, and the hours can be flexible. Contact our lead custodian or Pastor Clinton.

Woodworking project still has opportunities
This team is coming together nicely, but the opportunity is still there. If you like working with wood and have even a little bit of experience, consider joining the effort to enhance the upcoming season of focusing on Christ’s passion. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.

Monthly Mission Partner
November’s partner is Sure Foundation Lutheran Church in Brandon, South Dakota. St. Andrew has sent mission teams to this recently launched mission church in the past and plans to send another this summer. View Pastor Wilke’s message and update to St. Andrew below.

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. October’s video describes a new mission church near Wausau that has begun calling a full-time pastor.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call update
Mrs. Pucci is still deliberating her call to serve as the new Curriculum Director for the Central Wisconsin Lutheran Schools. She asks for your continued prayers that the Lord guides her to make a decision that brings her peace and aligns with the ways she can use her gifts to give him glory. You are encouraged to reach out to her if you have thoughts to help guide her decision, or speak to her in person.

Hannah Ellingboe was called by St. Andrew to serve as a special education teacher for the ministry of Westside Christian School. This will be a new position in our school, beginning in the 2024 – 25 school year. Hannah is currently serving at St. Peter in Appleton. Please keep her in your prayers as she deliberates the calls before her.
