This Sunday

Church today
Gather with the saints this weekend to learn from the pattern of the very first Christians. They loved the needy. They called out the idols. Idols? I’ve never bowed down to anything. Yes, but everybody lives for something. Something gives meaning to your life. That’s your god. The good news is that there is a much better one; one who satisfies like nothing else can. Read Acts 14:8-20 and gather to receive good news and encourage others Thursday at 7:00 PM or Sunday at 8:00 or 10:30 AM.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Adult Choir returns November 10
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM, November 10, 17, and December 1, to sing for worship on Sunday, December 5. High school-aged and older are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Musician stage installation
The musician stage was successfully installed last week in the sanctuary. A BIG thank you to those who helped with last minute installation needs!

Children’s Christmas program
Life has been a season of flexibility and learning new ways of doing things. We are excited to announce a new look for a long-time tradition of presenting the timeless message of Jesus’ birth. “The Miracle of Christmas,” an original script, includes Scripture, songs, and skits by kids from grades Pre-K3 – 8 in Plugged into Jesus and Westside Christian School and will be presented in video format and released online on December 23.

Call
Naomi continues to deliberate her call to serve as music teacher and staff minister at Divine Savior in Liberty Hill, Texas. Please keep her in your prayers as she considers how and where God is calling her to serve.

Milestones
Last week the gathered saints witnessed the Spirit do what only the Spirit can do: make a believer. Through Jesus’ promise in water and the Word, the Spirit washed away the sin of Ender William Alexander, gave him faith in Jesus, and promised him heaven. The Spirit made Ender not only Kali and Kevin’s child, but God’s own child and our brother in faith. No wonder we clap, cheer, whistle, stomp, and sing! Welcome to the family of God, Ender.

Now, brothers and sisters, we pledge to teach him God’s Word. Welcome him in worship. Show him how important worship is to you. Let him see you commune at the Lord’s altar. Let him hear you sing. Let him watch you greet one another and study the Word together. Then watch how the Spirit confirms the faith he’s given. That’s church.

Worship Check-in
This weekend we will be bringing back the Connection Cards to worship. If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder each week. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend here. Obviously, ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.
This Is Amazing Grace” by Phil Wickham
How Great Thou Art” by Paul Baloche
Across the Lands” by Stuart Townend, Keith Getty
10,000 Reasons” by Matt Redman

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

FUEL
“I want to be closer to God.” There is one way this happens. We’ll discuss this on Sunday at FUEL. FUEL meets at 9:30 AM every Sunday and is for all St. Andrew high school students. Reach out to Mr. KJ for more information.

Celebrate Recovery
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed” (James 5:16). Every week we hear from people in and outside our church family who are struggling terribly with issues: heartbreak, grief, porn, addiction, gaming, diet, insecurity, depression, anxiety, health, struggling family members, and more. We may want to hide from our issues, but we find healing from God when we confess our sins to each other. Infected wounds of the heart can only heal when they are cleaned out. At Celebrate Recovery you will find no condemnation, no one trying to fix you (except Jesus), or shame you. We are all working on our issues together. Who attends and what is said is completely confidential. Why not give it a try? Celebrate Recovery is at St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.

Impact—A St. Andrew podcast
Promise fulfilled! Jesus definitely crushed the devil’s head! Listen to the details of the very first promise of a Savior in part two of Genesis 3 with Tim Rimpel of Illinois Lutheran High School. New Impact episodes are released every Monday. Past episodes are also available. Give Impact a listen and share this nurture resource with others. Impact is now on Apple.

Musikgarten
Welcome a friend to Musikgarten, where caregivers and infants through age three join in music and rhythm activities on Sunday mornings at 9:20.  Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
Try this home activity for “An Ascending Truth”: See how high your family can get balloons into the air. Talk about how Jesus was lifted up into heaven. Remember that he will come back again one day to take us to be with him in heaven. Click here for the Bible teaching video. Videos are easily shared, and you can request a kit to ship to kids you know and love.

“A Telling Truth: Pentecost” will be this week’s lesson. Who will you invite? Kids in Pre-K3 – grade 5 are welcome to PiJ every Sunday morning at 9:20. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Spark
Spark is the new name for our middle school Sunday morning ministry. Will there be flames on heads and the sound of wind in Spark this week? Come and learn about Pentecost and find out! Grades 6 – 8 meet in room 108 on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for Spark. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Caregiver needed
A St. Andrew family is in need of a short-term volunteer caregiver for a 3-year-old during weekdays while Mom works virtually from home. If you would like more information, contact Pastor Hunter.

November Monthly Mission Partner | WELS Prison Ministry
“Remember those in prison . . .” (Hebrews 13:3). This November we are partnering once again with WELS Prison Ministry, a group that is serving more than 35,000 incarcerated inmates with the gospel. There is great hunger for the Word of God with those who are in prison. For more information about how you can help, contact WELS Prison Ministry Administrator Dave Hochmuth.

A big thank you from MOM
Middleton Outreach Ministry serves as a partner in the greater Middleton area for a number of community services. St. Andrew is participating this year in a collection of MOM’s Top 10 needed food items. Sunday is our last day for collection. On Monday the items will be transferred to MOM. Thank you to all who have participated in this much needed ministry.

St. Andrew Giving Tree
Beginning Thursday, November 4, you will have an opportunity to participate in our 2021 Giving Tree. We will be giving gift cards to families this year, allowing them to purchase gifts before Christmas. Numbered gift tags (families’ names are kept anonymous) will soon be available on a Christmas Giving Tree table outside the Service and Outreach office in the atrium. You will be able to pick a tag and buy a gift card for just one person or for a whole family. Thank you!

Mission Trips 2022
2022 is not that far off, and Mission Trip planning is underway. Do you find yourself enthusiastically discussing what is going on around the globe? Do you enjoy working with people? Are you mission minded? Our planning team has set tentative mission locations for 2022: Greater Madison, Wisconsin; Sure Foundation Church, Brandon, South Dakota; Citrus Grove Church, Wesley Chapel, Florida; Illume Church, Seattle, Washington; and Mahahual, Mexico. Interested adults, teens, and families should watch the Weekly for more information and plan to attend a Mission Trip informational meeting in January. Questions can be directed to Amy Kohlstedt, Mission Trip coordinator. “A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed” (Proverbs 11:25).

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Building finishes
The locker doors are installed! There are a few finishing touches that the company will be coming back to do (e.g. number plates, filling in the gaps), but overall we are so thankful to have this step completed. Our students are excited to organize their own spaces! Also, the new teacher desks are assembled thanks to some incredible volunteers, and the rest of the furniture in the school wing arrived this past week. Walk down the hallways and take a peek into our classrooms to see them continuing to come together.
