This Week

Thankful for grace
Throughout November, we have been thankful for the significant moments in our lives, for the people God puts in our lives, and for the fruits of faith seen around us. Now, on Thanksgiving, we thank our Creator for his grace. The God who provides daily bread and necessary weather patterns is the God who provides the salvation we need because of our sins. Join us for worship Wednesday evening at 6:30 or Thursday morning at 9.

Advent worship | Lord, Remind Me
The end of the calendar year is the beginning of the church year. Maybe our December celebrations and activities resemble the world’s, but our reason is different: We anticipate the arrival of Jesus, both as babe of Bethlehem and as triumphant King making his return. This Advent, we ask our Lord to remind us who he is, starting with the very fact that he is Lord of our lives. Advent at St. Andrew begins with worship on Sunday morning; join us at 8 or 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Thanksgiving worship
Join us for Thanksgiving worship on Wednesday, November 26, at 6:30 PM (livestreamed) or Thursday, November 27, at 9:00 AM to thank God for his grace. No Thursday evening worship.

Pastor call meeting November 30
After many conversations, the Board of Directors and Area of Ministry leaders have proposed a shift away from the Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision model. In a new structure, two pastors would have some shared responsibilities and some individual responsibilities. Our two pastors, along with the Minister of Worship, Minister for Nurture, and Principal of Westside Christian School, would be the Area of Ministry leaders.

The voters’ meeting will be to amend the bylaws to accommodate a new structure and to call a candidate for an additional pastor at St. Andrew from a list that District President Mike Jensen will provide. While voters are male communicant members of St. Andrew, all are invited to participate in the discussion about the ministry needs of St. Andrew and how the candidates might serve them. We hope you will join us at 12:00 PM on November 30.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
Masonry work continues on the exterior of the building. The brick work on the upper west side of the building is being completed this week. Inside the new building, the concrete slab was poured over the area that will be the new sanctuary. We have one more concrete pour next Tuesday for the floor slabs to be complete. Interior stud work will then begin. Although the atrium windows went away this week, we’ll keep you updated with interior pictures as it progresses.

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Poinsettia order
One way to get the sanctuary ready for the Christmas season would be through your donation of a Christmas poinsettia. The cost is $17 and can be picked up following Christmas Day worship. Orders can be made here and are due December 14.

Save the date | Koiné Christmas concert
Join us on Saturday, December 6, at 4 PM for a Christmas concert presented by the band Koiné featuring our very own music intern, Atticus Lawrenz, on drums. “Emmanuel Lux” is a concert experience using music and media to tell the miracle of Jesus’ birth. Bring a friend to the concert and stick around afterward for food and fellowship.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Grow in Grace
Mr. Aaron Wakeman returns on Sunday, December 14, with Mission Possible, part 2. When he was here in May he talked about the importance of openness and humility in personal evangelism. This time Mr. Wakeman will share practical and effective ways to talk with others about your faith in Jesus. We will have a follow-up on December 21. Grow in Grace is at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary.

Advent devotions | Words for Christmas
Advent is a time to look ahead to the celebration of the birth of the world’s Savior. In December, The Weekly will provide Advent video devotions—Words for Christmas: Definitions from Christ. We pray these short devotions will help you reflect on the reason for Christmas.

Impact
This week we have a special Thanksgiving episode as we reflect on Psalm 98. This Psalm helps us bring praise to our gracious God. Our guest is Professor Andrew Hussman from Luther Prepatory School. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Christmas gift assistance
We celebrate the gift of Jesus’ birth every Christmas. A fitting longtime tradition is giving gifts to others, both responding to and magnifying God’s perfect gift of salvation to us. If your temporary or ongoing circumstances make Christmas gifts a significant financial burden for your family, let the St. Andrew family help by completing this assistance request form.

Service opportunity for friendly people
We are creating two new teams of people to connect with our guests in worship. If you like meeting new people, conversing in person, or even connecting via email or text, this is a great opportunity for you. Contact Pastor Clinton to get involved.

Last call for clothing drive
Throughout November, we are collecting warm clothing and other items to donate to people being released from jail in the winter. Please place donations on the designated table in the atrium.

New or gently used winter apparel that is clean, rip-free, and stain-free:

  • Men’s and women’s winter coats, size L – 4XL
  • Pants, sweatpants, and athletic pants, size M – 3XL
  • Shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts, size M – 3XL
  • Hats, scarves, blankets, gloves, shoes, and boots of all sizes

In their original packaging:

  • Socks
  • Men’s and women’s underwear
  • Toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, and shampoo

Monthly Mission Partner
Our November partner is Kingdom Workers, a national nonprofit organization whose goal is to address the physical and spiritual concerns of communities. They are perhaps best known for two programs: Builders for Christ and Jesus Cares. Find more information about Kingdom Workers at kingdomworkers.com.

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. November’s video, focusing on calling, is the third in a series of four that provides some details of the synod’s 10-year plan to address ministry challenges in today’s world.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Social Studies Fair
This past Friday evening, students in grades 3 – 8 held a Social Studies Fair. The 3rd and 4th graders each presented one of the 50 states. The middle school students chose a country. In each case, students had to prepare a short presentation on their state or country. It was great to see how the students really dug into their research and had outstanding presentations.

Thank you to the teachers for their hard work and preparation for the fair, but also to the parents for supporting their students. Well done by all!
