This Week

Words matter
Whoever said, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me,” was either lying or just not very bright. God doesn’t lie, he’s very bright, and he has said, “The tongue has the power of life and death” (Proverbs 18:21). When the apostle Paul finally made it to Italy, brothers and sisters in Christ met him and encouraged him. What do you suppose they said? We don’t know, but more important is what WE say. What words do you speak that encourage others? Let’s learn to value our roles as encouragers and be for others the Spirit’s “power of life.” Read Acts 28:11-16 and gather to encourage your brothers and sisters this Thursday or Sunday.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Save the date | Children’s Christmas Program
Sunday, December 4, at 2:30 PM, the children of St. Andrew and Westside Christian School will present their Christmas program at the Middleton Performing Arts Center. Mark your calendars and join us as the kids “Get Ready for Christmas.”

Christmas decoration team
Do you have an eye for Christmas decorating? Do you enjoy getting into the Christmas spirit? The Visual Arts Christmas team could use your skills. The team will be meeting Sunday, November 6, at 11:45 AM, to design a Christmas decorating plan for the sanctuary and atrium. If you are interested in attending, please contact Visual Art team lead Sue Martalock or Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs. Decorations will go up Thanksgiving weekend.

Paul’s epilogue—your perspective on life
After we finish our study of Acts, we’ll back up a step. We’ve been in the trenches with Paul and, to mix a metaphor, we may have missed the forest for the trees. The Spirit has taught us through his words to believers, his witness to unbelievers, the opposition he endured, and the storms he weathered. If the old man Paul could give us his bigger-picture perspective on life, what would he say? What would you say? If you’re over 65, tell us the view or lessons you’ve learned from life. Help the rest of us gain from your bigger-picture view of life. But only if you’re over 65! We recently invited people under 35 to help us understand them better; now it’s your turn! You can email if you’re not concerned about confidentiality, write on your worship folder, or use a blank Connection Card. You might start like this: What I’ve learned about life is . . .

Thanksgiving Worship | Grateful for Grace
In September a new song based on Philippians 4 was released. “Rejoice” reminds us that, in every season, we have every reason to praise the Lord. That truth is an anthem for life, but especially this November. Give the song a listen and then join this “family of grace” for Thanksgiving worship as we give thanks to the Creator of all things.

  • Wednesday, November 23, 6:30 PM (livestream available)
  • Thursday, November 24, 9:00 AM
    (no Thursday evening worship)

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Mental health help
Helping someone who is struggling with mental health is a daunting task. An article in a recent issue of Forward in Christ may provide you with something to share with your college student or a friend/family member regarding their struggle with mental health. Maybe it’s you that could use some help. Whatever the case, here is the link.

Impact
We all desire to be a bolder witness for Jesus. It can happen—and can only happen—through the Holy Spirit. He stands ready to equip you with what you need to share Jesus. Listen to Professor Sam Degner from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary talk about the difference the Holy Spirit made for the apostle Peter. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
If you have a little one 3 or younger, check out this enriching ministry. PowerHour is for children and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. For more details about PowerHour, click here. The next PowerHour is November 4 at 10:30, and the theme is “We’ve Got the Beat!”

Children’s ministries
Bring your child to a Sunday morning nurture ministry. This week’s Plugged into Jesus and Spark lesson is about the gift of friendship. Have your child think of a friend he or she can invite to Plugged into Jesus!

  • Musikgarten | for parents (or a caregiver) and their child up to age 3 (9:20 AM)
  • Plugged into Jesus | Pre-K3 – grade 5 (9:20 AM)
  • Spark | grades 6 – 8 (9:30 AM)

All who attend grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and in the love he has for them. These important ministries also lay a foundation for developing lives of faithful service to our gracious Lord. No registration is required.

FUEL
The “U” in FUEL stands for “Using our gifts to serve.” The “who” and the “how” and the “what” is up to the group. That’s our task this coming Sunday at FUEL. Basically, it will be a brainstorming session on serving. FUEL is a high-school-age St. Andrew Growth Group that meets Sundays at 9:30 AM in room 114.

Ride team needed
Do you worship at the 10:30 service? Do you drive near Parmenter in Middleton? If so, would you be willing to be part of a team to help get a senior gentleman to and from church on Sundays? With three to four individuals or families, a schedule can be worked out. If you are able to do this, please contact The Love of Christ (TLC) team leader Karen Teske-Osborne or call/text at 608-516-1315. Our TLC mission: Serving Christ by serving others.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Voters’ meeting
We are so thankful for the growth of Westside Christian School and are excited to share that we have a record 33 kindergarten students this school year! To accommodate the continued learning of these students for the 2023-24 school year, we will be calling for a second 1st grade teacher who will work closely with Mrs. Renstrom. The Board of Directors has set a special call meeting of the St. Andrew Voters’ Assembly. The meeting will be held via Zoom at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 9. If you would like to attend, you can join the Zoom meeting here.
