This Week
God Is at Hand
It goes without saying that our God gives us so much to be thankful for. At the top of that list is the essence and power of the gospel message we hold so dear. Witnessing how this gospel equips us and others to serve his holy name is not, though, an opportunity to pat ourselves on the back and say, “well done.” Instead, it’s another opportunity to marvel at the timeless truth that “God is at hand” in our lives and in the lives of so many others. Join us for worship Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
Pastor call meeting November 30
After many conversations, the Board of Directors and Area of Ministry leaders have determined that some structural changes make sense to address our pastoral vacancy and continued growth of our ministry. The intent is, at least for now, to shift away from the Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision model and implement a structure with two pastors who have some shared responsibilities and some individual responsibilities. Our two pastors, along with the Minister of Worship, Minister for Nurture, and Principal of Westside Christian School, would be the Area of Ministry leaders. Between the two pastors and the ministry integrator, or ministry operations director, some responsibilities move around, but none are lost. These changes will not only increase our chances of securing another pastor sooner, but also set us up nicely for the upcoming years.
The voters’ meeting will be to amend the bylaws to accommodate a new structure and to call a candidate for an additional pastor at St. Andrew from a list that District President Mike Jensen will provide. While voters are male communicant members of St. Andrew, all are invited to participate in the discussion about the ministry needs of St. Andrew and how the candidates might serve them. We hope you will join us at 12:00 PM on November 30.

A Place of Peace
Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project
Construction update
Masonry work continues on the exterior of the building. Keep an eye on the top of the northwest corner of the new building to start seeing the bricks being laid. Inside the new building, concrete slabs will be poured over the next two weeks.
Take one last look through the atrium windows this weekend because next week there will be a temporary wall installed about 4 – 5 feet into the atrium so they can begin connecting the old and new buildings. We’ll keep you updated with pictures as interior work progresses.
A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”
Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

‘Tis the season
Christmas decorations will be going up soon. There are a few ways to get involved:
- This Sunday, November 23, stick around after 10:30 AM worship and help run across the street to get the decorations out of storage and bring them back here to church.
- We have people to set up and decorate the sanctuary trees, but there is still opportunity to get involved by setting up and decorating the atrium tree. If you’re interested, please contact Sue Martalock.
Poinsettia order
Another way to get the sanctuary ready for the Christmas season would be through your donation of a Christmas poinsettia. The cost is $17 and can be picked up following Christmas Day worship. Orders can be made here and are due December 14.
Save the date | Koiné Christmas concert
Join us on Saturday, December 6, at 4 PM for a Christmas concert presented by the band Koiné featuring our very own music intern, Atticus Lawrenz, on drums. “Emmanuel Lux” is a concert experience using music and media to tell the miracle of Jesus’ birth. Bring a friend to the concert and stick around afterward for food and fellowship.
Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.
Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.
“Rejoice” by Skye Peterson & Rend Collective
“By Faith” by Keith & Kristyn Getty, Stuart Townend
“For the Fruits of His Creation” arr. by Koine
“This Is My Will” by Koine

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Advent by Candlelight
“One Red Ribbon: The Salvation Story,” an evening for women, will be held Sunday, December 7, 6 – 8 PM, at St. Andrew. Included will be appetizers, interactive Bible study, worship songs, and dessert! Sign up online. Grab an invitation in the atrium to share with others. Women and girls 14 and up are welcome. Contact Jane Dew with your questions.
20’s and 30’s
There are lots of events coming up that might interest the young adult crowd. Check them out here.
Grow in Grace
Mr. Aaron Wakeman returns on Sunday, December 14, with Mission Possible, part 2. When he was here in August he talked about the importance of openness and humility in personal evangelism. This time Mr. Wakeman will share practical and effective ways to talk with others about your faith in Jesus.
Impact
The true story of The Three Men in the Fiery Furnace could properly be called The Four Men in the Fiery Furnace, sort of. Our guest is Pastor Nate Wordell, campus pastor at Wisconsin Lutheran College. He will explain. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
PowerHour on Friday
PowerHour is a St. Andrew ministry for parents and their young children, up to age 4. It returns this Friday, November 21, at 10:15 AM. This week’s theme is a surprise, which means there is only one way to find out what it is. Click here to learn more about PowerHour.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Christmas gift assistance
We celebrate the gift of Jesus’ birth every Christmas. A fitting longtime tradition is giving gifts to others, both responding to and magnifying God’s perfect gift of salvation to us. If your temporary or ongoing circumstances make Christmas gifts a significant financial burden for your family, let the St. Andrew family help by completing this assistance request form.
Service opportunity for friendly people
We are creating two new teams of people to connect with our guests in worship. If you like meeting new people, conversing in person, or even connecting via email or text, this is a great opportunity for you. Contact Pastor Clinton to get involved.
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these”
Throughout November, we are collecting warm clothing and other items to donate to people being released from jail in the winter. Please place donations on the designated table in the atrium.
New or gently used winter apparel that is clean, rip-free, and stain-free:
- Men’s and women’s winter coats, size L – 4XL
- Pants, sweatpants, and athletic pants, size M – 3XL
- Shirts, sweaters and sweatshirts, size M – 3XL
- Hats, scarves, blankets, gloves, shoes, and boots of all sizes
In their original packaging:
- Socks
- Men’s and women’s underwear
- Toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, and shampoo
Monthly Mission Partner
Our November partner is Kingdom Workers, a national nonprofit organization whose goal is to address the physical and spiritual concerns of communities. Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Calls issued
It is once again teacher call season. From October 15 through April 15, many of our Westside Christian School teachers can be placed on call lists and receive calls to other schools. Fortunately, no teachers from Westside have received calls yet.
However, we do have openings for several grades for next school year. This past Thursday, St. Andrew issued calls to three individuals. The kindergarten call was issued to Mrs. Jess Bohl. Currently, Mrs. Bohl is team-teaching 1st grade with Mrs. Ashley Renstrom. Mrs. Renstrom will be back full time next year, so Mrs. Bohl is available to deliberate this call.
Another call was issued to Miss Malia Faessler. This name should be familiar to many at St. Andrew since she is a member of our church. Miss Faessler graduated from UW-Madison last spring with a teaching degree. She is currently teaching 4th grade in the Madison school district. Miss Faessler was issued the call for 4th grade at Westside.
The last call issued was for 5th grade. This call went to Mr. Timothy Hochmuth. Mr. Hochmuth is currently serving at Living Hope Lutheran School in West Allis, Wisconsin. He is teaching 5th grade and serving as Athletic Director.
Please keep all three of these teachers in your prayers over the next several weeks as they deliberate their calls. |
