This Sunday

A serious argument
We have a record of one of the earliest serious arguments in the Christian church. No, it wasn’t about style of music, building costs, or the appropriateness of the pastor’s humor. It was about bacon. And a rare steak. What makes such things serious? Because it would have been possible to take the best news in the universe and twist it into being not good news at all. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. Find the solution in Acts 15. Then join your brothers and sister in church to praise and thank God for the freedom he’s given us and his instructions on how to use it.  Gather with the saints on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8  AM or 10:30 PM.

Christmas decorating
With December quickly approaching, you could help get the church ready for the Christmas season. If you enjoy Christmas decorating, there are a number of ways to get involved. If you would like to serve in any of the following ways, please contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

  • Tuesday, November 23, 3:30 PM | 4 – 5 people to help get the Christmas decorations out of the storage unit across the street and over to church.
  • Friday/Saturday, November 26 or 27 | Adopt a Christmas tree: Three St. Andrew Christmas trees need to be assembled and decorated by a loving family or group for the Christmas season. This can be done either day.

Milestones
Ryan Weiss, infant son of Andy and Ali, was brought into God’s kingdom through the gospel in the water of baptism last Sunday, November 14.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Advent by Candlelight—for women of all ages
Throughout history, God gave his people signposts pointing to his Son, our Savior. In an evening of prayer, song, and reflection, we follow God’s signposts to the promised Messiah. Join us Sunday, December 12, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM, for an evening of prayer, song, and reflection as we follow God’s signposts to the promised Messiah. Invite a friend, decorate a table, share a dessert, or just bring yourself. Sign up here. Contact Yvonne Onsager with any questions.

Grow in Grace—whole church Bible study
Luke has some terrific songs. No, not Luke Bryan or Luke Combs. Doctor Luke. His gospel includes some great Christmas songs. We are going to look closely at them and hear them at Grow in Grace this December. Join us for this Christmas Bible study. Grow in Grace is at 9:30 AM on December 5, 12, and 19 in the sanctuary.

Celebrate Recovery
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed” (James 5:16). Every week we hear from people in and outside our church family who are struggling terribly with issues: heartbreak, grief, porn, addiction, gaming, diet, insecurity, depression, anxiety, health, struggling family members, and more. We may want to hide from our issues, but we find healing from God when we confess our sins to each other. Infected wounds of the heart can only heal when they are cleaned out. At Celebrate Recovery you will find no condemnation, no one trying to fix you (except Jesus), or shame you. We are all working on our issues together. Who attends and what is said is completely confidential. Why not give it a try? Celebrate Recovery is at St. Andrew on Mondays at 6:30 PM. More information is found here. Questions about Celebrate Recovery can be sent here.

Impact—A St. Andrew podcast
You name it, Jesus is superior to it. Therefore, stick with Jesus! That’s the message of Hebrews. Listen to St. Andrew Staff Ministry for Nurture Mark Kjenstad speak with Tim Rimpel from Illinois Lutheran High School about Hebrews 9. Impact is new every Monday, and all past episodes are available. Click here to find Impact.

FUEL
The devil is not a fun cartoon character. He is real, he is powerful, and he is a liar. At FUEL the next three weeks, we are going to learn what the Bible says about this fallen angel. All high school students are encouraged to join us on Sundays at 9:30 AM for FUEL. Speak to Mr. KJ for more information.

Musikgarten
Bring a friend to Musikgarten on Sunday morning! Caregivers and infants through age three join in music and rhythm activities on Sunday morning at 9:20. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

November Monthly Mission Partner | WELS Prison Ministry
“Remember those in prison . . .” (Hebrews 13:3). This November we are partnering once again with WELS Prison Ministry, a group that is serving more than 35,000 incarcerated inmates with the gospel. There is great hunger for the Word of God with those who are in prison. For more information about how you can help, contact WELS Prison Ministry Administrator Dave Hochmuth.

Thanksgiving MOM | Donation update
Good news is always fun to share. Thanks to you, our St. Andrew family and friends, we surpassed our 2021 Thanksgiving food drive goal. With additional online cash donations, the total of cash/checks/gift cards donated increased to $1,344.48. Food donations remain at 1,080 pounds. WOW! Thank you!

St. Andrew Giving Tree
Our December 5 deadline for returning the 2021 Giving Tree gift tags is growing close. The gift tags are available on the Christmas Giving Tree table in the atrium. We are giving gift cards to families this year, allowing them to purchase gifts before Christmas. The names of those giving and receiving gift cards are kept anonymous. Members can pick a tag and buy a gift card for just one person or pick up tags for a whole family. When returning the gift tags and gift cards, please drop them in the Drop Box slot at the Welcome Center. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3,4).

Mission Trips 2022
Are you mission minded? On a mission trip, you will experience new adventures to grow and share in Christ’s love. Our mission team is working diligently to develop productive and engaging trips in 2022 to the following locations: Greater Madison, Wisconsin; Sure Foundation Church, Brandon, South Dakota; Citrus Grove Church, Wesley Chapel, Florida; Illume Church, Seattle, Washington; and Mahahual, Mexico. Interested adults, teens, and families should watch the Weekly for more information and plan to attend a Mission Trip informational meeting in January. Questions can be directed to Mission Trip Coordinator Amy Kohlstedt. “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered” (Proverbs 11:25).

Thank you from WELS Christian Aid and Relief
Greetings in Christ! Thank you for your support! We received your gift of $4,670.00 and directed it to WELS Christian Aid and Relief as requested. Thank you so much for your generous support of this ministry. Our WELS Christian Aid and Relief is a ministry of compassion that assists people suffering from disaster or hardship and proclaims the good news of our Savior to those who are hurting. Our guiding passage is found in Galatians 6:10: “As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”  Thanks again for your support!
In Christ, our compassionate Savior,

Westside Scrip program
What costs you nothing but gives Westside a financial boost while you fill your tummy, tank, or a Christmas stocking? Westside’s Scrip program, of course! The Scrip program enables you to buy gift cards for your everyday purchases (e.g., gas, grocery, coffee, restaurants, etc.) which then turns into money for the school. Here’s how it works:

1) You sign up for the program.
2) You buy your gift cards at face value from the Scrip website.
3) The businesses you purchase from give Westside a rebate just for using the program.

You get the full value of your gift card. No extra money is spent on your part. There’s nothing more to do other than plan ahead a bit. Scrip offers convenient ordering options including E-gift cards delivered right to your email, reloadable cards, and physical cards that come by mail. Orders are processed on the 1st of each month throughout the school year, with physical gift cards being available at school within one week.

Over 700 businesses participate in Scrip, such as the following:
