This Week

Wisdom for the family
God invites us to call him Father. He calls us his children. That makes Jesus our brother and makes us the family of God. In addition, the Bible tells us he places us in families. That’s a lot of family. Yet no word likely conjures up more good or bad feelings than the word family. This weekend we head back into the book of Proverbs and ask the Spirit to give us God’s wisdom for families. Whatever our family situations, this is wisdom for all of us.

Save the date | Children’s Christmas program
Sunday, December 10, the children of St. Andrew and Westside Christian School will present their Christmas program at the Middleton Performing Arts Center. The preschool – grade 1 program will be at 3:30 PM and grades 2 – 8 at 4 PM. Mark your calendars and join us as we reflect on the “Gifts from the Manger.”

If your child attends Plugged into Jesus (Pre-K – grade 8) and is interested in participating in this year’s program, please reach out to Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs. Practice materials can be found here.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

ABC’s from God’s Word
The precious faith that God has given you is nurtured through the powerful Word of God. A new nurture resource written by our Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad is available in the atrium. Take a copy for yourself. Take a copy to share. It is our prayer that ABC’s from God’s Word will increase your understanding of Scripture, so that it has a greater impact on your life. If you would like an e-version sent to you, contact Mr. KJ.

New Growth Group
The human body is the pinnacle of God’s creation. St. Andrew is offering a new Growth Group called Made in His Image that will explore complexities of the human body. We will watch and discuss a short video each week that highlights the incredible way God put us together. This group will meet on Fridays from 8 – 9 AM (November 10 and 17 & December 1 and 8) in the Soul Café. Click here to sign up.

Advent by Candlelight
Save the date for Advent by Candlelight. This women’s ministry event will return on December 3 at 5:30 PM. Reflecting on the many names of Jesus will help us celebrate the gift of our Savior. Also, if you would like to serve as baker, table decorator, or set-up crew member, please contact Nancy Ninman.

WELS Choral Fest
Choral Fest is an annual event featuring over 500 WELS high school students from across the nation, including students from Lakeside. The host this year is Wisconsin Lutheran College. There are two concerts that you are invited to attend. The pop concert is this Friday at 7:00 PM, and the sacred concert is Sunday at 3:00 PM. Both are always terrific. Click here for more information and livestream links.

Small Talk
Small Talk is back! A new episode with Emmett is now available. Listen to Emmett and host Rachel Kamin talk about the true story of David and Goliath. You can listen here or wherever you listen to podcasts. Search “Small Talk Kamin.” You can’t listen to Small Talk without smiling!

Impact
Does Jesus have authority to forgive sins? The miracle in Mark 2 shows that he does. This week’s guest is Pastor Clinton Kreuziger from St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Pastor Clinton talks about forgiveness of sins that is given to us through faith in Jesus. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Flexible part-time job
God has blessed St. Andrew and Westside Christian School with a wonderful facility. Keeping it clean and tidied is a large task, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming for any one person. If you have a little extra time, even just a few hours a week, and would like to earn some extra money, consider picking up some janitorial hours. All your training will be provided, and the hours can be flexible. Contact our lead custodian or Pastor Clinton.

Woodworking project still has opportunities
This team is coming together nicely, but the opportunity is still there. If you like working with wood and have even a little bit of experience, consider joining the effort to enhance the upcoming season of focusing on Christ’s passion. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.

Monthly Mission Partner
November’s partner is Sure Foundation Lutheran Church in Brandon, South Dakota. St. Andrew has sent mission teams to this recently launched mission church in the past and plans to send another this summer. View Pastor Wilke’s message and update to St. Andrew below.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call update
Mrs. Pucci is still deliberating her call to serve as the new Curriculum Director for the Central Wisconsin Lutheran Schools. She asks for your continued prayers that the Lord guides her to make a decision that brings her peace and aligns with the ways she can use her gifts to give him glory. You are encouraged to reach out to her if you have thoughts to help guide her decision, or speak to her in person.

Hannah Ellingboe was called by St. Andrew to serve as a special education teacher for the ministry of Westside Christian School. This will be a new position in our school, beginning in the 2024 – 25 school year. Hannah is currently serving at St. Peter in Appleton. Please keep her in your prayers as she deliberates the calls before her.

Members of St. Andrew,

On Sunday, October 22, I received a call to serve as the middle school special education and English language arts teacher at Westside Christian School in Middleton, Wisconsin.

In the next few weeks I will be deliberating both calls: the one to St. Peter in Appleton, and the one to Westside Christian School. I will be praying that God will lead me to teach at the school where I can best use my talents to support more children in learning about Jesus.

Please keep me and the two schools in your prayers as I deliberate what my decision should be.

In Christ,
Hannah Ellingboe

History Fair
A much beloved event is returning to Westside. Mark your calendars for Friday, November 17, when students in grades 3 – 8 will fill the entire building with come-to-life historical characters and tell their life story at the History Fair. Hear from kings, queens, inventors, civil rights pioneers, and politicians about the role they played in making history. The fair runs from 4:30 – 6:00 PM. While families are invited to stay for the entire evening, the breakdown by grades is as follows:

  • Grades 3 – 4 | 4:30 – 5:00 PM
  • Grades 5 – 6 | 5:00 – 5:30 PM
  • Grades 7 – 8 | 5:30 – 6:00 PM
