This Week

A single acorn has within it the power to create a huge oak tree which will then have the power to produce thousands of oak trees, each producing thousands more acorns. In other words, a single acorn has the power to cover the entire earth with wood. But that acorn’s potential will never be released while it sits in a glass bowl on your mantle. It has to go into the ground and be buried. The Bible is constantly talking about that. Unless you’re broken of your self-sufficiency and humbled and go into the soil of suffering and weakness, you’ll never be strong. Without death, there is no resurrection. You have the potential for greatness, joy, hope, and character; but first, suffering. That’s the message of Romans 8. Read the whole chapter again this week. Then join your fellow acorns in Christ on Thursday or Sunday to receive grace for suffering from his Word and sacrament.

Summer Growth Groups
St. Andrew is a church that is blessed with a Growth Group ministry that brings small groups of God’s people together around God’s Word. The result is encouragement, growth, support, and more. The summer Growth Group semester goes from early June through early August. Sign up for a group that fits you. You can sign up in the atrium or online beginning Sunday, May 12.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Upcoming festival services
Just like we have a calendar year, the Christian Church has a church year that begins with the season of Advent. This church year is split into two parts—the festival half where we focus on the birth, life, and death of Jesus, and the non-festival half which focuses on the life of the Church. The festival half, which we are in now, closes with three special services that are coming up soon:

  • The ascension of Jesus into heaven (May 9/12)
  • The sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (May 16/19)
  • The celebration of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (May 23/26)

Cross Peace explanation cards
During Holy Week, these cards with brief summaries of each Cross Peace piece were available. If you did not get one to accompany your Lent cross, pick one up from Pastor Clinton.

Milestones
The parents of these confirmands have been teaching the chief truths of God’s Word along with assistance offered by St. Andrew. The children, parents, pastors, and ministers have agreed that they have sufficiently prepared themselves to receive the Lord’s Supper. Now we will work to continue their spiritual growth through the use of God’s Word at home, in worship, and in study with their peers. Praise God for their parents’ faithful teaching and for the blessings they have received through it.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow in Grace | Leading Children to Jesus
At our upcoming Grow in Grace, St. Andrew parents and grandparents will share strategies and encouragement that can help lead children closer to Jesus. God creates the faith and directs his people to guide children with his Word. Join us for this conversation that will include Adam and Jess Bohl, Ben and Renee Carlson, Mitch and Amy Hutter, Dan and Ellie Roekle, Ed and Tina Murray, and Julia Thiele. Grow in Grace is May 12 and 19 from 9:30 – 10:15 AM in the sanctuary. Please email Mark Kjenstad if you will use the provided childcare.

St. Andrew Summer Camp | Jesus in Everything
Children entering kindergarten – grade 6 are encouraged to attend St. Andrew Summer Camp! This year’s camp offers a fun variety of activities and Jesus will be in everything. The dates are July 8 – 11. Go here for more information or go here to register.

Impact
Bread goes bad. Jesus never will. The difference is something to contemplate and be thankful for. Pastor Nathan Wordell is our guest this week to help us with John 6 where Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.” You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Final PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to the next PowerHour, which is the final PowerHour until it returns in the fall. Join us on Friday, May 17, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. The theme is “The Best of PowerHour.” Click here for more information on PowerHour.

LifeBoat
LifeBoat is the name of a new group for St. Andrew teens. LifeBoat is for grades 7 – 10 and meets the first and third Sunday evenings of every month from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. A typical evening is food, play, and Jesus. For location and more information, contact LifeBoat leaders Jess Bohl or Hilary Griswold.
