This Week
Commitment
Commitment is an interesting concept. Although it means thorough dedication, we often speak of different levels of commitment. For example, you might be less committed to your exercise plan than to watching your favorite team on TV.
When we think of commitment, we should first think of God. His commitment is not dependent or half-hearted. Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 on how our commitment comes from God’s commitment.
God’s people at St. Andrew have committed to making our church a place of peace for more people, and part of that is a significant cost. This weekend is your opportunity to submit your pledge, your financial commitment to A Place of Peace. Join us Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Highlights
Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
Pledge cards and commitment weekend
You have prayerfully considered a sacrifice that will be joyful and meaningful for our ministry expansion project. You should or did receive a pledge card in the mail this week; a sample is below. Part of worship this weekend is making our commitments by submitting our completed pledge cards. We will bring them forward to the altar to symbolize our sacrifice, which is a joyful response to Jesus’ far superior sacrifice. Those who have pledged already can still participate, as we will have extra pledge cards. You can submit a blank one or simply write “already pledged” on one.

A Place of Peace
Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project
Spring Garden Party | May 18
To celebrate God’s work through our commitments to A Place of Peace, we’ll have a party on Sunday, May 18, starting at noon. There’s no agenda; just come and relax. Have something to eat and view the Plugged into Jesus children’s posters.

Summer worship update
We are getting really close to having summer worship plans figured out. As you may have heard, Lord-willing, with construction coming on the site and parking lot this summer, parking logistics have been a big concern. Thank you to those who have put in a lot of time and effort to find options that will work for us both on-site and off-site. We should have much more information coming very soon.
Plant sale
With a new parking lot being put in on the north side of the building, we will need to remove the plants in the rock garden on the north hillside along with the plants around the dumpster enclosure. If you are interested in giving any of these plants a new home, please contact Lois Solverud. Any proceeds from the sale will be put toward the A Place of Peace campaign.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Thank you Havens Petting Farm
What a special day of worship, fun, fellowship, and, of course, the lambs! A big thank you to Havens Petting Farm and especially Ferron and Barb Havens for bringing your lambs to St. Andrew this past Sunday for Good Shepherd Sunday. Ferron and Barb have brought their lambs to St. Andrew for many years to share with us on this special Sunday, and we are grateful.
Farewell (for now) to the Hunters | June 8
Join us on June 8 for Pastor Hunter’s last service at St. Andrew and his installation in a new ministry. WELS Home Missions Administrator Mark Gabb will commission Pastor Hunter for his role in Boise, Idaho. That afternoon will be a fun celebration on our campus with a picnic (ribs, chicken, burnt ends, cheesy grits, baked beans, green beans, coleslaw, and dessert) and kids’ activities. Please save the date and plan to join us at noon.
June 8 Adult Choir
Join your voice with others on June 8 as the Adult Choir sings for Pastor Hunter’s Commissioning and Pastor and Karen’s farewell. Rehearsals will be Wednesday, May 28 and June 4 at 7 PM. If you are interested in singing with the choir, contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.
Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.
Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship on Sunday. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Growth Groups
Summer Growth Groups begin soon. It’s a chance for you to gather with friends, make new friends, take care of your faith, and help others do the same. Sign up in the atrium or online.
Mission Possible: A Model for Personal Evangelism
Join us for the Grow in Grace whole church Bible study Mission Possible on May 18 at 9:30 in the sanctuary. Need childcare so you can attend? Please contact Yvonne Onsager to sign up.
Impact podcast
Among other things, Romans 12 tells us what God thinks about revenge. Pastor Michael Berg, a professor at Wisconsin Lutheran College, is here to take us through several verses in this wonderful chapter. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
LifeBoat
This fun ministry for grades 7 – 10 gathers again on Sunday, May 18, from 5 – 7 PM at St. Andrew. You are welcome to bring a friend. It’s a simple agenda: hang out, enjoy some snacks, and open up the Bible for a bit. Direct your questions to Jess Bohl or Hilary Griswold.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Service opportunity | Pre- and post- carpet cleaning June 1/3
All you have to do is move stuff. We will begin moving things off of carpeted areas at noon on Sunday, June 1. Then, the items need to go back to their places on June 3 in the afternoon/evening. If you’d like to be a part of either crew, please contact Pastor Clinton.
Service opportunity | Brat Fest
St. Andrew will again be a Brat Fest charity. Volunteers interact with the community and earn donations toward St. Andrew mission trips. There are still opportunities for the evening of May 25, but you must register here, and then please let Pastor Clinton know which slot you signed up for.
Community service in action
Last week a Growth Group volunteered at WayForward Resources, sorting and organizing goods to be donated to the community. “Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people” (Ephesians 6:7).

Getting connected
This past week, the 3rd grade classroom worked at making “Connections” with members of St. Andrew. The students played games of UNO, Sorry!, and Yahtzee with members of St. Andrew. We will be starting this program at the beginning of next school year, so if you would like to participate, watch for the announcements. |

Zoozort comes to Westside
Students in Pre-K through grade 4 enjoyed a visit from some zoo animals last week. They got to see various animals like an armadillo, a chinchilla, a bullfrog, and a variety of others. They not only learned about the animals but were able to pet several of them as well. It was a wonderful opportunity to see animals up close and personal. |
