This Week

Serve the world
We say goodbye to our beloved sanctuary after 25 years of use, but we continue a mission that transcends buildings: Serve the world. This weekend, we’ll let the account of Nehemiah walk us through what serving the world means. Join us one last time for worship in what we will soon refer to as “the old sanctuary.” Services are Thursday night at 7 and Sunday morning at 8 and 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Call meeting
Our next call meeting for Pastor for Outreach will be Thursday, May 28, at 5:45 PM in room 110.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
Finishes continue to go in! Pictured below is a reading bench and some bookshelves that will house part of the church library. This is located in one of the entrance hallways and will have a TV across from it if parents need a place to take a child. Also pictured are the beginnings of the welcome desk located in the new atrium.

Upcoming move
Our first big move of the summer is next week, and there are lots of ways to get involved. Here are just a few ways you may be able to help out:

Sunday, May 17, after worship services

  • Get the staging from across the street and over to the gym (this will require significant manpower and several trucks).
  • Set up and decorate the altar area in the gym.

Tuesday, May 19, beginning at 4 PM and running through the evening

  • Move everything out of the sanctuary, Soul Café, cry room, and hallway to various areas around the building (this will also require significant manpower).
  • Set up AV areas, run cords in the gym, and handle much more.

If you can help on any of those days, sign up here. Food will be available for those helping out. If you have any questions, email [email protected].

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

A Place of Peace | Add your memories to the board
“‘For in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.” These words from Haggai chapter 2 were the basis of our capital campaign in May 2025. As we look forward to the completion of our new sanctuary, classrooms, and support spaces this year, we also want to give thanks for the grace and peace God has given us for the last 25 years in our current sanctuary. Not only has God blessed us through his Word and sacraments in this space, but over the years many of us have also celebrated milestones in our lives here as well: weddings, funerals, baptisms, confirmations, new member welcomes, first Sundays at St. Andrew, etc.

We’d love to know about yours! Over the next few weeks, we will have a whiteboard in the atrium. We will have cards available to write your personal or family milestones on or feel free to bring a copy of a photo from your milestone events to put on the board. Let’s fill both of our whiteboards with the many blessings he has given us over the last 25 years as we look ahead to many more years to come.

Milestones
This past weekend, St. Andrew welcomed 19 new members: Matt and Marta Behrens, Eric and Terri Johnson, Darrell and Laurie Kamin, Grace Korth, Parker and Mette McFarland, Greg and Judy Nelson, Michael and Monica Peterson (not pictured), Terry Roach and Mary Koenig-Roach, Kelsey Thorell, and Ben and Jennie Voelz and their son Asher. We’re excited to minister to and with them, so please continue to make them feel like family.

In addition, one teenager was confirmed in the faith and received into communicant membership at St. Andrew. God’s blessings to Logan Thomas.

Pray for all 20 of these individuals and for the entire family of St. Andrew.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship on Sunday. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Summer Growth Groups
Growth Groups are on a short break as we make the move from spring to summer, but they are coming back soon, so now is the time to sign up. There is a golfing group, a mom’s group, a breakfast group, and a few more to choose from. See what works for you. You can sign up in the atrium or right here.

Pickleball outing
Since this pickleball thing has taken the world by storm, we thought we’d make a racket and ask you to join us for some friendly competition on Sunday, May 31, at 12 PM. Click here to reserve your spot for pickleball at Taylor Park in Middleton. This is for players 18 and older. The sign-up deadline is May 20.

Impact
The apostle Paul was given a thorn in his flesh. He didn’t like it and wanted it removed. God saw things differently. Pastor Jon Bilitz is our guest this week, and he will help us learn more about this helpful section of 2 Corinthians 12. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

PowerHour
The final PowerHour of the year is this Friday (May 15) at 10:15 in the St. Andrew gym. The theme is “The Best of Power Hour”. Click here to learn more about PowerHour.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Professional counseling available
May has been observed as Mental Health Awareness Month. Did you know that St. Andrew partners with Christian Family Solutions to offer counseling, including for mental health? You can find out more about CFS at christianfamilysolutions.org, or contact Pastor Clinton for more information. All counseling situations are kept confidential.

LWMS Convention coming to Madison
The 63rd Annual Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society Convention is June 25 – 28 in Madison at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. It features workshops, devotions, fellowship, and much more. There will also be many opportunities to serve both before and during; if you are interested in serving, please contact Amanda Taticek. Visit 63.lwms.org for more information about the convention.

WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a ministry or initiative. Last month’s video shows an encouraging partnership blossoming in central Africa through French missionary work.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our May partner is the WELS mission work in the Boise, Idaho, area where Pastor Randy Hunter, a St. Andrew member and former St. Andrew pastor, is serving as a mission developer. Watch his short video.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Graduation
On Monday, May 18, at 6:30 PM, Westside Christian School will celebrate the graduation of 20 8th grade students. Please pray for each of these graduates as they leave Westside for high school.

Save the date | Karen Hong retirement party
Mrs. Karen Hong, Westside Christian School’s kindergarten teacher, will be retiring after this school year. Karen has dedicated 44 years to her calling. She has been a devoted servant to WCS for 25 of those years.

We would like to celebrate with Karen on Sunday, June 14. Please mark your calendars so that you can attend the worship service where she will be recognized as well as the celebration following the 10:30 service. See you there!

Work completed
Westside Christian School would like to congratulate Mr. Jack Murphy, Miss Emma Nolte, and Mrs. Val Weiss on completing their WELS synod certification. This has been challenging and difficult at times, but all of them should be commended for their work.

Congratulations, Martin Luther College graduates
Mrs. Michelle Kreuziger and Miss Hannah Zabel, our new 5th grade teacher, will be receiving their diplomas as they graduate from Martin Luther College in the Master’s Degree program on Saturday, May 16. Please take a moment to congratulate Michelle and Hannah (when she gets here) on their accomplishments.
