This Sunday

Commitment phobia?
“I like to keep my options open. Something better might come along.” Some people are drawn to new and exciting experiences and relationships, and are reluctant to limit their options. It sounds appealing, but it usually leads to shallow or ruined relationships and careers. Embracing Christianity means limiting options for the sake of following Christ, but it only leads to deeper and more satisfying experiences. Paul taught that to the people of Ephesus. Some could not limit their spiritual pursuit to one god. We call that idolatry. It’s an easy trap for pagans and even for Christians. This weekend, let a mob in a theater in Ephesus teach you about limiting your options to embrace Christ more fully. Read Acts 19:22-41 and gather to encourage other followers of Christ on Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Grow in Grace
Grow in Grace—whole church Bible study—returns on Sunday. Join us for part two in a three-part series called Addressing Mental Health. Here is the remaining schedule:

  • May 15—Dr. Phil Huebner will be here on Sunday! Pastor Huebner is a terrific speaker, and he will help us focus on the facts about Jesus instead of our up and down feelings, while seeing ourselves as children of God above anything else.
  • May 22—The topic is grief and depression and will feature an interview with a WELS pastor talking about his ongoing battle with depression. We will also talk with Bethany Brewster-Stern, a St. Andrew member and professional counselor, about ways to deal with grief and depression.

Grow in Grace will be from 9:30 – 10:15 AM in the sanctuary. All sessions will be recorded and available online through The Weekly.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Growth Groups
St. Andrew Growth Groups are a wonderful way to nourish the precious gift of faith God has graciously given us and to connect with brothers and sisters in Christ. Summer Growth Groups will begin June 5. Sign up in the atrium. You can also sign up here. To find more information about St. Andrew Growth Groups click here.

Impact
Satan has strong allies as he attempts to destroy the church. However, he won’t succeed because Jesus is with his church. Listen to part two of Revelation 13 with Pastor Erich Schaser from Fox Valley Lutheran High School. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Children’s Ministries
Praise God with us for another year of blessings on our Children’s Ministries which include Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, and Spark. Many thanks to those who served God’s kids so faithfully this year. Families will definitely want to watch the videos over and over with kids and grands this summer! Find them on the St. Andrew website under “Resources.” Stay Plugged into Jesus this summer!

Science Camp
We are very excited to bring back Science Camp to St. Andrew this summer! Join us for “The Wonders of Water.” St. Andrew Science Camp is for 4K – grade 6. Kids in grades 7 – 8 can serve as leaders-in-training. Sign-up is coming soon. For now, mark your calendar for St. Andrew Science Camp on July 18 – 21.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Call
Pastor Matt Westra and his wife Rachel continue to deliberate the call to serve as our Pastor for Service and Outreach. Please continue to pray for them to reach a decision that will be good for them and God’s kingdom—both here and where they currently serve in Tennessee.

May Monthly Mission Partner | Central Africa Medical Mission
This month our Monthly Mission Partner turns our eyes and prayers to the medical missions of Africa, where medical aid is used to share the good news of Jesus. Last year the Medical Mission celebrated 60 years of ministry and medical aid to Africa. To find out more, go to their website, or read an article about them in Forward in Christ.
