This Week
According to the . . .
This weekend, we continue the powerful chapter of Romans 8. In verses 5-17, the apostle Paul emphasizes the dichotomy between the sinful nature and the Spirit. Which controls you? How? Why? Join us Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Adult Choir
Keep the Easter joy alive by joining your voice with other brothers and sisters high school age and older. Rehearsals will be Wednesdays, May 1, 8, and 15, at 7 PM, in the Soul Café. The Adult Choir will sing for worship on Sunday, May 19.
Upcoming festival services
Just like we have a calendar year, the Christian Church has a church year that begins with the season of Advent. This church year is split into two parts—the festival half where we focus on the birth, life, and death of Jesus, and the non-festival half which focuses on the life of the Church. The festival half, which we are in now, closes with three special services that are coming up soon:
- The ascension of Jesus into heaven (May 9/12)
- The sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (May 16/19)
- The celebration of the Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (May 23/26)
Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Grow in Grace | Leading Children to Jesus
Are you at that stage of life where you are raising one or more children? Do you have influence over children in your extended family? At our next Grow in Grace, you will hear encouragement, ideas, and strategies to help lead those precious souls closer to Jesus. Parents who are raising children will benefit the most, but this is also for grandparents, aunts, uncles, and more. Grow in Grace is May 12 and 19 from 9:30 – 10:15 in the sanctuary. Please email Mark Kjenstad if you will use the provided childcare.
St. Andrew Summer Camp – Jesus in Everything
Children entering kindergarten – grade 6 are encouraged to attend St. Andrew Summer Camp! This year’s camp offers a fun variety of activities and Jesus will be in everything. The dates are July 8 – 11. Go here for more information or go here to register. (FYI, the form is being stubborn, so if the link doesn’t work, please be patient and try again later.)

Impact
The Lord is almighty and, therefore, capable of the supernatural. He showed it more than once, and each time it was used to help his people. Listen to this true story about God’s supernatural power found in Joshua 10. You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”
PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to the next PowerHour. Join us on Friday, May 3, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. The theme is “construction.” Click here for more information on PowerHour.
LifeBoat
LifeBoat is the name of a new group for St. Andrew teens. LifeBoat is for grades 7 – 10 and meets the first and third Sunday evenings of every month from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. A typical evening is food, play, and Jesus. For location and more information, contact LifeBoat leaders Jess Bohl or Hilary Griswold.
Sunday children ministries
May 5 is the final Sunday for Spark, Musikgarten, and Plugged into Jesus. Thank you for supporting our efforts in the privilege of sharing Jesus with your children. We had many faithful helpers. Join us in thanking God for their dedicated service.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Service opportunity | Brat Fest
St. Andrew will again be a Brat Fest charity this Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers will interact with the community and earn donations for St. Andrew’s mission trips. Opportunities from May 19 – 26 are filled on a first come, first served basis. Unfilled slots are still available, especially on Sunday, May 26, so sign up soon and make sure to choose “St Andrew Evangelical Lutheran Church” as the organization you are volunteering for. Contact minimissions@st-andrew-online.org with any questions. Sign up here.
Spring work day | May 4
God has blessed St. Andrew with a beautiful and practical property that comes with various opportunities to serve. Saturday, May 4, from 2 – 4 PM, we will be doing some outdoor yard work, including mulching, edging, seeding, and strawing. Contact Steve Veers or Pastor Clinton to be a part of it.
Apply now for summer mission trips
Adult trips are to Brandon, South Dakota, and London, England. Teen trips are to Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Join the team. Spread the gospel. Have lots of fun. Find details and apply here.
LWMS Circuit Rally Convention June 27 – 30
Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society exists to support mission outreach within our church body. The annual LWMS convention is June 27 – 30 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Find more information about the convention and about LWMS at their website.
Monthly Mission Partner
May’s Monthly Mission Partner is Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel. This is our sister campus ministry in downtown Madison. Students from both near and far find a Christian home away from home—a place to study, relax, and gather. Find more information at wlchapel.org.
WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. Last month’s video shows a church near St. Louis carrying out a program to relieve food insecurity in the area.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Call updates
Tammy Mielke has been deliberating a call to teach English at Fox Valley Lutheran High School. She has returned that call and will remain here at Westside Christian teaching middle school ELA. We pray that God will continue to bless her ministry here and that he will provide the worker they need for a growing high school ministry in Appleton.
As the WELS call window has come to a close, we are especially thankful that all full-time teaching positions remain filled for the upcoming school year. WCS is so blessed to have such dedicated and caring staff members who are serving our students now and are planning for another school year focused on Christ. |
