This Week

Peace of mind
The Book of Romans is full of deep theology, but the word “peace” occurs for only the fourth time in chapter 5, in which Paul develops this idea: we are at ease because of what God has done in Christ. With so many unknowns in life, so many crises we cannot guarantee we will avoid, so many possibilities that are out of our hands, we can hang our hats on something. We have been justified. Let’s rejoice in the blessing of peace together. Join us Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Forward in Christ
Each month, St. Andrew makes available a publication called Forward in Christ. It is filled with uplifting and inspirational stories, practical help for parents, Bible instruction, and more. Grab a copy in the atrium. Last month, Jane Dew was a featured writer. Check this out.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Lent and Easter meal assistance
March 13 is still available. It’s a great opportunity for you or your Growth Group to serve by assisting the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup. You can also join the effort to provide a tasty breakfast to Easter worshipers. If you’d like to help on March 13 or 31, please sign up here.

Service opportunity | Palm Sunday piece
Our Palm Sunday Cross Peace piece will be the palm branch folded into a cross. If you would like to help form these crosses (it’s easy, and tutorials/instructions are available), please contact Pastor Clinton. We will do this late during the week of March 17 and/or Sunday morning, March 24.

Service opportunity | Brat Fest
St. Andrew will again be a Brat Fest charity this Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers will interact with the community and earn donations for St. Andrew’s mission trips. The sign-up goes live on March 15, so look for details on how to sign up by then. Contact minimissions@st-andrew-online.org for more information.

Those pieces are nice
If you have missed the small sword, rooster, or INRI sign from Wednesday Lent worship, be sure to take one from the atrium. A lot of effort has gone into making the Cross Peace pieces available for Lent, including the sanctuary pieces, so let’s thank Tracey Bindl, Patti Coffren, Sherry Kessler, Sue Martalock, Heidi Pease, Ali Schroeder, Lois Solverud, Sarah Wendorf, and Donna Woller.

LWMS Convention June 27 – 30
Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society exists to support mission outreach within our church body. The annual LWMS convention is June 27 – 30 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Find more information about the convention and about LWMS at their website.

Monthly Mission Partner
Down syndrome affects only about 1 in 1500 (about the same percentage as a male being at least 6’6” or a female being at least 6’). This means Down syndrome is extremely overrepresented in the St. Andrew family. Our March Partner is GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome achievement center in Madison. Find more information about this organization’s activity at their website and/or watch the video.

Call updates
Our 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Gnewuch, has accepted her call to teach at Abiding Peace Academy in Simpsonville, South Carolina, next school year. Her acceptance letter is attached below. We want to thank Kim for her 25 years of dedicated service to St. Andrew and Westside Christian School.

Additionally, we are excited to announce that Dan Plath has accepted our call to serve as principal at Westside Christian School, beginning next school year. Please pray for him and his wife, Beth, as they finish their ministry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Beverly Hills, Florida, and begin to plan for their ministry here at St. Andrew and Westside Christian School.

Dear Members of St. Andrew and Parents of Westside Christian:

Praise be to our gracious Lord and Savior who has given us the awesome privilege of serving him together as his kingdom of believers! After looking at each individual calling in Simpsonville and Middleton and my particular gifts, I feel led to accept the call to teach in the elementary grades at Abiding Peace Academy.

It is such a blessing to have multiple opportunities to share the Word of God where the fields are truly ripe and waiting throughout the world. I thank you for your prayers and encouraging conversations the past few weeks as I prayed and deliberated where I would best be able to serve our Lord with the abilities he has given me.

I pray that the work in the Lord’s kingdom be blessed both in Simpsonville and Middleton as we use his Word to lead the little children to his waiting arms. I am so grateful for the many blessings I have received here in Middleton over the past 25 years. Each relationship I made here and each family I was privileged to work with will always remain special to me. You may have heard me refer to my students as “my kids.” They will forever be in my heart as I continue to pray for them. I will keep St. Andrew and Westside in my thoughts and prayers as you seek a servant for Christ’s lambs through the call process.

In Christian Service,
Kim L. Gnewuch
