This Sunday

Paul in Corinth
The big news in the news this past week had to do with billionaire actors slapping each other over golden trophies they hand out once a year. The people who buy tickets to their movies and make them billionaires are more, well, ordinary. Paul met billionaire types in Athens. He met ordinary people in Corinth. This week we’ll also meet them in Acts 18. God accomplishes his purposes through ordinary people whose trust in Jesus causes them to change their plans for their lives. Sounds like something we can learn from, since most of us (all of us) are ordinary people.

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Small Talk
Small Talk trailer.

Small Talk is back! This St. Andrew podcast is returning with three Holy Week episodes. Small Talk is kids sharing the good news about Jesus. Host Rachel Kamin talks with children from St. Andrew. She asks the questions, and the kids take it from there. This Sunday, April 3, you can listen to Sam talk about why Jesus suffered and died. Find this podcast on the St. Andrew website or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Bible reading guide
For help with the struggles of life, there is no greater resource than your Bible. The Bible speaks to your needs. However, knowing where to look is a challenge. For help, pick up the Bible reading guide in the atrium.

Impact
The ministry of Jesus did not end when he was nailed to the cross. His ministry continued with fascinating words spoken while being crucified. Listen to part two of this conversation with Professor Stephen Geiger from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Click here for Impact, a St. Andrew podcast, or find it where you listen to podcasts. Search “Kjenstad Impact.”

Resurrection Eggs: A family Easter project
You’ve heard of the twelve days of Christmas . . . why not twelve days of Easter? Look for your Resurrection Egg kit in the atrium this weekend. Each day for twelve days, families will add a found item to an egg as listed in the instructions. Use the Scriptures to teach the truths of salvation to family and friends. This kit is a gift from Plugged into Jesus to families with kids ages Pre-K3 – grade 5.

April showers at PowerHour
PowerHour returns April 1 with April showers! PowerHour is a fun-filled learning hour for parents/caregivers and their children ages 1 – 3. PowerHour happens at 10:30 AM on the first and third Friday of the month in the gymnasium. Each PowerHour includes playtime, fun stories, sing-along songs, and a message from Jesus. Who can you tell about St. Andrew PowerHour?

Musikgarten
Parents, grandparents, anyone with little ones—come and experience music and rhythm with an infant or toddler in your care. We meet Sundays at 9:20 AM. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
To remember the last lesson, watch for lambs in your world this week—in books or outside your window. Point them out! The Passover was meant to point God’s people to the Lamb of God, our Savior Jesus. This week’s lesson is “Food from Heaven: God Cares for His People.” Join us Sunday at 9:20 AM. Bring more friends! Use this link to watch the Bible teaching video. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

 Spark
When was the last time you were really, really hungry? This week, be reminded how God provides all we need. Grades 6 – 8 meet at 9:30 AM on Sunday for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

FUEL
Do you know the parable of the unmerciful servant? It is a powerful story that Jesus uses to get us to think about forgiving those who sin against us. We’ll talk more about it at FUEL on Sunday at 9:30 AM. FUEL is for all St. Andrew high school students.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Call for Pastor for Service and Outreach
We have called Pastor Phil Janke to serve as our Pastor for Service and Outreach. Pastor Janke has served a congregation in Racine and is currently serving as Coordinator of Recruitment and Communication at Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Please pray for Pastor Janke and his wife Stephanie as they get to know the ministry here and reconsider their service to Jesus at WLA. Pastor Janke’s letter of acknowledgement is below.

Dear Members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church,

‘Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.” (Luke 15:23-24)

What a thrill! Our Savior Jesus tells us that heaven erupts in celebration when anyone who was lost is found through repentance and faith in him. What a thrill that we get to have an earthly part in turning up the volume on heavenly songs when he enlists us to find the lost.

On Sunday, March 27, 2022, the Holy Spirit, through St. Andrew Lutheran Church, extended to me the divine call to serve as Pastor for Service and Outreach. What an honor to have the opportunity to consider this!

As I consider the ministry at St. Andrew, I will continue to evaluate my ministry here at Winnebago Lutheran Academy in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. During this process, I certainly appreciate your prayers. If I may be so bold, ask God to grant me wisdom and guidance as I deliberate where I might best serve him in his kingdom. I, too, will pray for St. Andrew Lutheran Church, her members, pastors, faculty, and other souls the Lord may reach through you.

In the coming weeks I look forward to having conversations with your leaders and members to learn more. I hope to reach a decision by the last Sunday in April. Please don’t hesitate to call me at any time. My cell phone is the best way to contact me.

In Christ’s service,
Pastor Philip Janke

Easter breakfast
Easter is quickly approaching. After a two-year break, we will again be able to enjoy Easter breakfast prepared by Chef Kevin Ostrand and his kitchen crew headed up by Sous-Chef Caryn Ostrand. As much as we all look forward to enjoying a good Ostrand Easter breakfast, we anticipate more the joy and hope provided by the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Invite your neighbors and friends to join you in celebrating the empty tomb and Easter breakfast served from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM.

If you would like to assist with Easter breakfast in one of the following ways, please sign up here.

  • Easter breakfast set-up crew—Saturday April 16, 9:00 AM
  • Easter breakfast clean-up crew—Sunday, April 17, 8:30 – 10:15 AM

Thank you from WELS Special Ministries
Dear Friends at St. Andrew Lutheran Church,

“Yes, your comfort renders sweet
Ev’ry bitter cup I meet;
For your all-atoning passion
Has procured my soul’s salvation.” (Christian Worship, “Jesus, Grant that Balm and Healing”)

WELS Special Ministries is devoted to making sure that the comfort of Jesus “renders sweet every bitter cup I meet.” Even the heaviest burdens that Christians and our families bear—whether it is a disastrous fall into sin or a burden of health, disability, or loneliness—are changed when we are reminded of our loving Savior Jesus who endured crucifixion to save us.

This work could not continue without his blessing and the support of God’s people. I have just learned of your offering of love for the Lord for this ministry. Your gift of $4,060 was received on March 9, 2022, and directed to WELS Prison Ministry.

Thank you for expressing your love for our Savior and for Special Ministries by your gift. It is a great encouragement to receive such gifts. The Lord is truly blessing this work to serve people who cannot be served in the usual ways in congregational life. Your offering is part of that blessing.

May God fill your heart with the peace of our Lord and grant you his blessing as you reflect on the love that Jesus showed in dying for sin and rising because our sins are forgiven!

In Christ crucified,
Rev. Jim Behringer
Director, Special Ministries

March Monthly Mission Partner | Middleton Outreach Ministries

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Accreditation
This year, Westside is up for re-accreditation by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod School Accreditation (WELSSA). Site team members will be on campus April 3 – 6 to observe in classrooms, review our evidence toward meeting the standards, and meet with teachers. We are looking for help with set-up and clean-up for the meal we are providing to the members of the WELSSA accreditation team on Sunday, April 3, from 5:00 – 7:30 PM. Please consider helping with this important effort. Click here to sign up for one of the shifts.

Calls received
Kim Gnewuch, our 3rd grade teacher, received a call to teach 2nd grade at Redeemer Lutheran School in Tucson, Arizona. She welcomes your prayers and comments in the near future as she prayerfully deliberates where she can best carry out God’s command to feed his lambs, whether here at St. Andrew and Westside Christian or at Redeemer Lutheran.

Lisa Myhre has been serving as a 1st grade teacher at Westside Christian School this year in a one-year call. This past Sunday afternoon, the Voters approved calling her to another one-year position for the 2022 – 2023 school year as a second kindergarten teacher. Her acknowledgement letter is below.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ and members of St. Andrew,

I am writing in humble acknowledgment of the divine call our Lord has led you to extend to me as a kindergarten teacher for the 2022 – 2023 school year at Westside Christian School. As you may be aware, I am also holding a divine call to serve as the Early Childhood Director for Peace Lutheran Ministries in Sun Prairie.

I will be evaluating the roles and responsibilities of each of these calls, along with the talents and abilities the Lord has blessed me with. I pray that God grants me clarity, wisdom, and guidance as I prayerfully consider both these divine calls, and I will also seek guidance and support from my brothers and sisters in Christ at both St. Andrew and Peace.

I ask that you pray for me, my family, and for both St. Andrew and Peace congregations as I deliberate these calls the Lord has set before me. St. Andrew and the congregation of Peace will also be in my prayers during this time.

God’s richest blessings to you all.

Your sister in Christ,
Lisa Myhre
