This Week

Temporary humiliation
Jesus’ state of humiliation was the time during which he did not make full use of his heavenly power and glory. To many, he looked weak, and he died a criminal’s death. Palm Sunday was a day of humility; Jesus’ triumphal entry was overshadowed by the details of glory that it lacked and by what was coming. Daniel 12 gives answers to those who ask whether their humiliation is part of God’s plan and how long it will endure. Despite Jesus’ humility, he rose, and everyone will eventually acknowledge him as Lord. Vindication was already God’s plan 570 years before Jesus died. Let’s study Daniel 12 and find out what it means for you. Join us for Palm Sunday worship Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Holy Week worship
“It was bound to happen.” When have you said that? The phrase applies equally to an unwelcome event (“The way he drove, an accident was bound to happen”) and to a happier experience (“As gifted as she is, the promotion was bound to happen”). The phrase applies to Jesus, too. Jesus was “cross-bound”—given his love for sinners, his obedience to his Father, and the weight of guilt, he was bound to suffer and die. But Jesus took up his life again; it was bound to happen because he rules over death, and his sacrifice satisfied the justice of God. After Jesus paid the penalty of sin, he was “cross-freed.” His resurrection, too, was bound to happen. May these worship services help you acknowledge Jesus: both cross-bound and cross-freed.

Taste the traditional food of men and women waiting for the realization of the promise of deliverance. Enjoy the fellowship of your own family in Christ, including the Lord’s Supper, which Jesus instituted during Passover. And maybe learn a few Hebrew words. Many people are already preparing to help you experience this event. To help them plan, register here by Sunday, April 2.  You will receive further instructions via email.

Call returned
Members of St. Andrew,

The Holy Spirit led me to return the divine call to Mt. Olive Church and School in Overland Park, Kansas. Jessica and I are grateful for the privilege of serving in the ministry of St. Andrew and Westside. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement. We look forward to continuing to serve you. Please say a prayer for Mt. Olive that God fill their ministry needs and that he grant them patience while waiting on his plan.

In Service to Christ,
Mr. KJ

Sunday morning children’s ministries
Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, and Spark are all thriving with children, and we want your child involved! Musikgarten (3 and under) and Plugged into Jesus (4K – grade 5) welcome children beginning at 9:20 AM, and Spark (grades 6 – 8) begins at 9:25 AM. This week, the Bible lesson in Spark and Plugged into Jesus is called “Abomination Nation—The Lord Leaves the Temple.” God was not happy with his people, as he is often not happy with us. However, he never stops showing mercy. Thank God for that!

FUEL
This Sunday morning Growth Group is for high school students. It gives them a chance to ask questions, receive much-needed encouragement, and learn from God’s powerful Word. The reasons not to go don’t stack up to those. FUEL meets at 9:25 in room 114.

Call update
The voters of St. Andrew have extended a call to Elicia Shepard to teach 1st grade beginning with the 2023-24 school year. Her acknowledgement letter is below. We pray that the Lord will bless and guide Elicia as she deliberates the call before her to serve St. Andrew and Westside Christian School.

Members of St. Andrew,

I am grateful to have received the call to serve Westside Christian School as a first grade teacher. Being a member at St. Andrew for several years now has provided many blessings to our family. What a joy it is to contemplate this wonderful opportunity to formally serve in God’s kingdom alongside the students and families at Westside. I welcome your prayers and encouragement as I navigate where I can best serve the Lord—whether that is at home with our children or at Westside as a first grade teacher.

Joyfully in Christ,
Elicia Shepard
