This Week

Don’t worry
Have you ever confided in someone about a worry and he or she responded, “That’ll never happen. Don’t worry.” Oh really? Unless that person was God, how can he or she know that a car won’t roll off that car-carrier ahead of you on the freeway and crash into you? Or for you spring-breakers who escaped to a warm beach, that a shark won’t venture into shallow waters and gobble you up? Or that your portfolio could shrink to half its current value? Or . . . or . . . or . . . “Don’t worry. that will never happen,” might be the best response some can offer, but it’s shallow. Or how about this: “Sure, that could happen. In fact, most of the things we worry about could happen.” Where’s the comfort in that? If that’s God’s message, I might stay away from church this weekend. And I’m the preacher. God’s message in Daniel 10 is, “Sure it could happen, but redirect your fear to something and someone even more terrifying—and to something and someone even more trustworthy.” Muddle through Daniel 10 (it ain’t easy) on your own and then let’s get together this Thursday or Sunday to untangle God’s beautiful and helpful truth.

Holy Week worship schedule

Maundy Thursday Seder meal | April 6 at 6 PM
Take advantage of a unique opportunity this year: celebrate a Passover meal at St. Andrew on Maundy Thursday. Learn some of the symbolism of the ancient Seder meal. See Christ in the Passover. Taste the traditional food of men and women waiting for the realization of the promise of deliverance. Enjoy the fellowship of your own family in Christ, including the Lord’s Supper, which Jesus instituted during Passover. And maybe learn a few Hebrew words. Many people are already preparing to help you experience this event. To help them plan, register here by April 2.  You will receive further instructions via email.

Easter flower orders due Friday
We are already anticipating the resurrection of our Lord on Easter Sunday! If you would like to help decorate the sanctuary for Easter with the purchase of Easter flowers, please place your order by March 24. You can do so by filling out the online form here. Flowers can be taken home following Easter worship on April 9.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Call update
Mr. Kjenstad is still deliberating his call to serve at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and School in Overland Park, Kansas. Please pray that the Lord leads him to a peaceful and God-pleasing decision. You are encouraged to send your thoughts to Mr. Kjenstad, or speak with him in person.

Take-home Easter project for children
We want to help you help your children celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Grab a take-home project and work on it together. They will be available in the atrium when you come for worship.

Small Talk returns
It is almost time for the release of a brand-new episode of Small Talk. This Easter episode will be released on Monday, April 3. To learn more about this fun podcast, click here.

Impact
The latest episode of Impact looks at what Scripture says about what happens with our souls when we die and offers some Scripture-based speculation about life in heaven. Our guest is Professor Kyle Bitter from Luther Preparatory School in Watertown, Wisconsin. You can find our St. Andrew podcast Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
PowerHour will not meet on April 7. It will return on April 21. For more on PowerHour, click here.

Sunday morning children’s ministries
Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, and Spark are all thriving with children, and we want your child involved! Musikgarten (3 and under) and Plugged into Jesus (4K – grade 5) welcome children beginning at 9:20 AM, and Spark (grades 6 – 8) begins at 9:25 AM. This week, the Bible lesson in Spark and Plugged into Jesus takes us into the book of Daniel to learn about a fiery marvel – the three men in the fiery furnace. All of these ministries lay a foundation for our children upon which to build their lives. As Jesus said, “The wise man built his house on a rock.”

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Effortless evangelism
Do you know how social media reach works? The more you interact with posts (“liking,” “sharing,” commenting, etc.), the more people see it. It’s that simple. As the day marking the cornerstone of our faith approaches, you can tell people with a click or a tap what is important to you. You never know what could come of it this year or next year or ten years from now. Of course, face-to-face contact is great, but an advantage of social media is efficiency, so know that St. Andrew makes regular use of both Facebook and Instagram.

Monthly Mission Partner | 2023 St. Andrew Mission Trips
This summer you have an opportunity to grow in faith, encourage others, and share in the love of Jesus through various acts of service by participating in a Mission Trip. Find the details and apply at the St. Andrew website.

Not everyone will go on a trip, but you can still support this ministry with prayers, Monthly Mission Partner donations, and through an event over Memorial Day weekend. St. Andrew will be participating in Brat Fest by sending volunteers whose labor means funding for St. Andrew Mission Trips.

If you have questions or want more information, visit the Mission Trips table in the atrium before/after worship on March 23/26. A Mission Trips team member will be happy to help.

Serve hospitality
In an effort to enhance the homelike atmosphere of St. Andrew worship, the Hospitality team is reassembling. Do you have ideas for how to maintain that comfortable experience? Are you able to make coffee? Set out or serve snacks? Do some basic cleaning and tidying? Are you willing to learn? Then the Hospitality team is for you. Contact Pastor Clinton to get involved.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call updates
The voters of St. Andrew have extended a call to Elicia Shepard to teach 1st grade beginning with the 2023-24 school year. Elicia and her husband, Tom, have been members of St. Andrew for the past ten years. You may recognize her from her time serving in our Plugged into Jesus ministry, or chasing around her three young children: Tori, Cohen, and Millie. Elicia has experience teaching 4K at a Head Start program in Madison, 1st grade in Morocco, and K – 5 in South Africa. Elicia has been blessed to be a stay-at-home mom with her children for the past six years. We pray that the Lord will bless and guide Elicia as she deliberates the call before her to serve St. Andrew and Westside Christian School in this way.
