This Week

Salt and Light
Everybody knows about salt and light, so they should make for easy spiritual comparisons, right? But when Jesus calls you the salt of the earth and the light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16), the difficulty does not lie in understanding, but in embracing and responding. This weekend, gather with other salty and bright followers of Christ. Then, go out and make everything salty and bright. Worship is Thursday night at 7 and Sunday morning at 8 and 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

A Place of Peace weekly update

  • Look for a letter in the mail for a breakdown of the cost and scope of the project.
  • The Ministry Expansion Committee continues to meet, and the floor plan continues to be fine-tuned. The first meeting with the audio-visual contractor is this week.

Next steps
The Board of Directors is working with our District President, Pastor Jensen, to develop a call list from which we will extend a call for a Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision. We anticipate a call meeting within a couple months. Currently, four called workers, not including the called teachers of our ministry of Westside Christian School, make up our ministry staff. Here’s who they are and what they do.

  • Pastor for Service and Outreach (Pastor Clinton Kreuziger)—Assists every member of St. Andrew in finding ways to serve in our ministry and leads our outreach efforts.
  • Minister for Nurture (Mr. Mark Kjenstad)—Organizes and trains leaders for the DNA of St. Andrew (Growth Groups) and oversees children’s ministries (apart from the school).
  • Minister for Worship (Ms. Naomi Laabs)—Designs our worship services and trains and equips musicians and others who serve in our worship ministry.
  • Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision (currently Pastor Hunter)—Preaches three quarters of the services and guides the staff in developing and implementing our vision for ministry.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

St. Andrew Science Camp
Science Camp is back. Campers will learn about God’s creatures, great and small. Whether these creatures fly in the air, move on the ground, or live in the water, all are amazing and reflect God’s power and wisdom. There will be lessons from God’s Word, experiments, snacks and more. Science Camp is July 14-17 and is open to kindergarten – grade 6. Register here. When you register note the special opportunity for grades 5-6.

Impact podcast
God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. What about when we suffer? Nothing about good and God changes. Pastor Stephen Kuehl suffered a tremendous loss, and he is here to attest to the goodness of God. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

PowerHour
The next PowerHour is April 4 with a fun theme of “Habitats of the World.” New friends are always welcome. PowerHour is at 10:15 in the gym. Go here to learn more about this ministry for children.

Children’s Ministries
Spring Break at Westside Christian will bring a one-week break for Plugged into Jesus and Musikgarten. Both ministries will resume March 23. St. Andrew is committed to helping children learn about Jesus. There are Sunday morning ministries for children from birth through high school. Contact Staff Minister for Nurture Mr. Kjenstad with your questions.

LifeBoat
We are docking the boat for a short break. LifeBoat will return on April 6 at 5:00. Contact Jessica Bohl or Hilary Griswold with your questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Service opportunity | Assist with Wednesday Lent meals
Lent worship services are additional opportunities to gather and focus on our Savior and to share a meal. The March 19 and April 2 meals still have opportunities to assist the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup. If you or your Growth Group is interested, sign up here.

Service opportunity | Brat Fest
Brat Fest volunteers interact with the community and earn donations for St. Andrew’s ministry. Opportunities are from May 18 – 25, and registration begins in early April. If you are interested in Brat Fest, contact Pastor Clinton.

Service roles to be filled
Do you get the impression that there’s no place for you to serve? There is. Below are a few of the teams that could get you involved in service right away. See Pastor Clinton to serve.

  • Audio—mostly turning mics on and off and up and down. It may seem intimidating, but it just takes a little bit of training.
  • Sunday 10:30 AM slides—controlling what is on the screens. It’s mostly about paying attention and pressing buttons.
  • Thursday ushering—helping worshipers get what they need and making sure service runs smoothly

Monthly Mission Partner
Our March partner is GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome achievement center in Madison. Down syndrome is very rare, but its population among the St. Andrew family is well above the average. GiGi’s recently sent a video to share some of what they do and express their gratitude.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call updates continue
Dr. Tammy Mielke is still holding her call to Whiteriver, Arizona. Dr. Mielke is truly struggling with this call to Arizona. Please continue to pray for her, and if you have an opportunity to speak with her in person, please do so.

Mrs. Krista Simmons will be stepping down at the end of the school year to raise her family (read her letter below). We certainly want to thank Mrs. Simmons for her time and dedication to WCS over the past school year and wish her God’s blessings as they welcome a new baby into the family!

Thursday, March 13, we will have another call meeting for teachers at Westside Christian School. We are still in need of a 3rd grade teacher. We will also be calling for an English Language Arts (ELA) teacher.

Dear families of St. Andrew and Westside Christian School,

I am so grateful for the meaningful year it has been, serving God’s kingdom by teaching. What a privilege it has been to work alongside a faculty that loves the Lord and is dedicated to high-quality education. It has been a blessing to have the opportunity to work with these middle school students, supporting them as learners, readers, writers, and followers of Christ.

With a newborn arriving in June, my young family needs me to return to serving as a full-time stay-at-home mother for the time being. It is my sincere hope and prayer that God has a plan for me to return to Westside to teach in the years to come. I look forward to continuing to serve the community of St. Andrew and Westside in the future.

In Christ,
Krista Simmons
