This Sunday

The danger of falling asleep in church
The Bible is a funny book. Of course, no book is more serious than the Bible, but read it and you’ll find humor. If you can read Acts 20:7-12 and not smile, someone should check your pulse. Luke includes a touch of physician’s humor when talking about a church service in Troas. That was then, this is now. It’s unlikely falling asleep in church will be as perilous in our day as it was for Eutychus. Our concern is more for falling out of fellowship than falling out of a window. To prevent it, the Holy Spirit works through the gospel in the Word and in the Lord’s Supper. Join your brothers and sisters this weekend. It’s God’s way to keep you in fellowship, even if you fall asleep.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Ministry Celebration and Voters’ meeting
Mark your calendars for two very important Sundays. First, on June 19, we will gather for our annual St. Andrew and Westside Christian School Ministry Celebration. Between services, we will hear about the ministry opportunities the Lord has put before St. Andrew and Westside Christian School. Ministry leaders will highlight key elements of the 2022 – 2023 Annual Plan for Ministry (Annual Plan). This will give you an opportunity to thank the ministry teams and ask questions. Click here to view the online version of the Annual Plan. A hard copy version of the Annual Plan can be found at the Welcome Center.

On June 26, after the second service (approximately 11:45 AM), you are invited to attend a Voters’ meeting where the Voters of St. Andrew will authorize the Annual Plan. God has richly blessed St. Andrew and Westside Christian School and has provided great opportunities for all to serve in his kingdom by sharing the gospel message and the hope that we have in our missional communities. To God be the glory, great things he does!

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Summer travel plans?
Join us for worship on Thursdays at 7 PM if your summer plans take you away for the weekend. Another resource to check out is the WELS church locator tab on wels.net. Just click on “Find a Church/School” on the top toolbar, type in the city you’re going to, and find nearby churches in our fellowship. You can also continue to catch our livestream service at 10:30 AM on our St. Andrew website.

Upcoming festival services
Just like we have a calendar year, the Christian Church has a church year that begins with the season of Advent. This church year is split into two parts—the festival half where we focus on the birth, life, and death of Jesus, and the non-festival half which focuses on the life of the Church. The festival half, which we are in now, closes with three special services that conclude this weekend:

  • The ascension of Jesus into heaven (May 26/29)
  • The sending of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (June 2/5)
  • The celebration of the Trinity: Father, Son, Spirit (June 9/12)

Worship Check-in
