This Sunday

Thy will be done
Paul was within a few days of destination—Jerusalem. But old friends, new friends, and trusted brothers and sisters in Christ warned him not to continue: “Something bad will happen to you.” It broke Paul’s heart. But he went anyway. They all relented, “May the Lord’s will be done.” Could God’s will be unpleasant for you? Who prays for that? You do, every time you pray, “Your will be done.” We pray the third petition of the Lord’s Prayer so often, it might become trite. Far from trite, this little request is at times upsetting, at other times hard, but at all times how you get in touch with God. Sounds like what you seek? This Thursday or Sunday, gather with your brothers and sisters to hear the Word, to come to the Table, and to pray for yourself and for each other, “Your will be done.”

Call returned
Dear fellow saints at St. Andrew in Middleton,

After much consideration, I have decided to return your call to serve as Pastor of Service and Outreach. I thank you for allowing me to consider this call. It is a tremendously humbling experience to wrestle with a call and to make a decision.

It is clear that there are many exciting things happening at St. Andrew. Your plans for ministry are well constructed, and it is obvious that God has provided many opportunities for you to grow and serve with his gospel. I will continue to pray for your ministry, and I am excited to see how God blesses you all through your work.

Thank you to all who spoke with me. All of you were wonderful. Thank you to all of you who sent prayers to  the throne of God. They always make a big difference.

I am confident that God will provide a wonderful pastor for St. Andrew. In hearing of your plans, it is obvious that you are a people who love their Savior, love their church, and love their pastor. I know that God has the right pastor to fill the call you are extending.

In everything, our confidence and hope comes from the crucified and resurrected Christ.

God bless and keep you,
Pastor Matt Westra

Call meeting
A special meeting of the Voters’ Assembly will be held in the gym at 6 PM on Thursday, June 30, to call a Pastor for Service and Outreach.

The Voters’ meeting this Sunday, June 26, at 11:45 AM, will be held to authorize an Annual Plan for Ministry. The Voters will consider two other agenda items:

  1. Elect Board nominees Clayton Grow, Tom Shepard, Mitch Hutter, and Steve Veers. Orv Jordahl is continuing his service on the Board. The financial administrator and the lead pastor will also continue as non-voting ex officio members of the Board.
  2. Adjust our bylaws to include a School Council to assist with and set policy for Westside Christian School.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Mission Trips
The planning is over, and it’s time to begin. Mission Madison begins today, and the team heading to serve at Citrus Grove Lutheran Church in Wesley Chapel, Florida, flies out tomorrow. Lord, grant safety, boldness, and humility to your servants. Bless their service and outreach. May it all be done to your glory. Amen.

  • Mission Madison
Seven middle school students and their leaders are busy from Wednesday through Friday this week to serve our community, represent St. Andrew, and make Jesus look good by the good they do. Specifically, they will plan, shop for and prepare “birthday bags” at Middleton Outreach Ministry, sort food at Second Harvest Foodbank, help at the Pregnancy Helpline center, help clean the construction area at Good News Lutheran Church in Mt. Horeb, and conduct a petting zoo at Huegel/Jamestown Park in Madison (thanks to Havens petting zoo for their assistance and donation). In between those events, they’ll eat, play games, pray together and have time for personal devotions and reflection. Whew…they’ll be busy! Please pray for their work and watch for a video update when they’re done. Mission team members: Jonas Hill, Isaac Hill, Malia Krahn, Tianna Krahn, Julia Nixion, Daniel Onsager, and Hannah Timm. The team leaders are Nancy Ninman and Liz Markle.

  • Mission Citrus Grove Lutheran Church
Eight high school students and their leaders will leave on Thursday to help a mission start-up in Wesley Chapel (Northeast Tampa), Florida. They will be leading a science camp in a local park on Friday, serving as volunteers for a mental health awareness day at the same park on Saturday, and helping to lead worship on Sunday.  In between they’ll enjoy the beaches of Tampa, southern hospitality and personal devotions and reflections. Pray for their safe travel, fruitful labor for Citrus Grove and growth through the word they teach and digest. The team members are  Lukas Beier, Elijah Grow, Clara Grow, Ava Heckman, Natalie Onsager, Andrew Onsager, Annie Povich, and Kyler Roloff. The team leaders are Clayton and Stephanie Grow.

Petting Zoo
Mission Madison Mission Madison is hosting a petting zoo at Huegel-Jamestown Park in Fitchburg (5902 Williamsburg Way) on Friday, June 24, 4 – 7 PM. All members are welcome to join us in reaching out to the community that evening. Our Mission Madison team is small this year, so we could use a few strong bodies to help set up from 3 – 4 PM. Contact Nancy Ninman with any questions.

June Mission Partner
This month with our prayers and offerings we partner with Illume Church in Seattle, Washington. To learn more about Illume, you can view their website here.

July 4
St. Andrew is putting together a team to help Middleton VFW set out American flags around our community on July 4 to celebrate our independence. This is a great project for students and parents to do together. Flag setup begins at 6 AM and flag takedown is at 5 PM. You can sign up in the atrium or click here. God bless America!
