This Sunday

Blest be the ties that bind
So goes the old hymn. The author may have been recalling the ties the apostle Paul enjoyed with people everywhere he went. From our study of Acts, we know people opposed Paul wherever he went. But others wept to see him leave. The reason? The Word of grace not only unites us with God but also with each other. Jesus became the most lonely person in history so we can enjoy ties with each other. Read Paul’s farewell to the Ephesians in Acts 20:13-38 and get a sense of the community we can be. Then gather with your community on Thursday or on Sunday to sing, pray, hear, think, laugh, cry, and receive the fruit of Jesus’ labor in Holy Communion.

Call update
Please continue to pray for Matt Westra and Rachel. They have not yet decided on whether to serve Jesus’ church in Tennessee or among us.

Celebration Event—this Sunday, 9:30 – 10:15 AM
We don’t have to create and follow an Annual Plan for Ministry. The Bible doesn’t command it. We could just sort of sit around and decide from one day or week to the next what to do. While there might be some advantages to that, and not a few challenges, we have decided to develop an Annual Plan for our major areas of ministry: worship, nurture, service & outreach, and Westside Christian School. Along with those four areas of ministry, we also plan how our properties, IT, and administration will support those areas of ministry. Our Annual Plan isn’t to tell God what to do; it’s to agree on what we’ll do to proclaim the truth of what God has done and who God is. He’ll do the rest.

On June 19, we will gather for our annual St. Andrew and Westside Christian School Ministry Celebration. Between services, we will hear about the ministry opportunities the Lord has put before us and will give you an opportunity to thank the ministry teams and ask questions. Click here to view the online version of the Annual Plan. A hard copy version of the Annual Plan can be found at the Welcome Center.

Voters’ Meeting—next Sunday, June 26, 11:45 AM
Voters of St. Andrew are asked to respond to three items:
1) The proposed Annual Plan for Ministry
2) Election of nominees for the Board of Directors: Clayton Grow (president), Tom Shepard (vice president), Mitch Hutter (secretary), and Steve Veers (director for properties). Orv Jordahl is continuing as director for IT.
3) A proposal to amend our bylaws to include a newly forming School Council to serve as the governing body of Westside Christian School. This group will be responsible to the Board of Directors but the Board will delegate to it the authority to set school policy.

Impact
Paul’s eloquent and powerful words on what love is and what love is not from 1 Corinthians 13 are beautifully explained in this episode with Dr. Phil Huebner, a pastor at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. Listen to the end to hear why love is even greater than faith and hope. Impact, a St. Andrew podcast, can be found here and wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Petting zoo
Mission Madison is hosting a petting zoo at Huegel-Jamestown Park in Fitchburg (5902 Williamsburg Way) on Friday, June 24, 4 – 7 PM. All members are welcome to join us in reaching out to the community that evening. Our Mission Madison team is small this year, so we could use a few strong bodies to help set up from 3 – 4 PM. Contact Nancy Ninman with any questions.

July 4
St. Andrew is putting together a team to help Middleton VFW set out American flags around our community on July 4 to celebrate our independence. This is a great project for students and parents to do together. Flag setup begins at 6 AM and flag takedown is at 5 PM. You can sign up in the atrium or click here. God bless America!

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Playground update
We invite you to take a step into our backyard to explore the new playground equipment and basketball courts! Westside Christian School had a fundraising event this past fall, the Westside Stride, which raised $53,773. Our Friends of Westside (PTO) worked hard to coordinate installing a new basketball court, climbers, spinner, and seesaw. They also have some projects to be added to our preschool playground this summer. We hope you take some time to enjoy these new spaces!

Second grade classroom assistant
Westside Christian School is looking to add a classroom assistant two days a week for the 2022 – 2023 school year. This assistant would work on our 2nd grade team. Classroom assistants support our lead teachers by preparing materials, working with small groups of students on instructional tasks, and supervising students at recess. Candidates should have a minimum of one year working with children in an educational setting, demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with other adults, and have a joy for supporting students of all ages. Contact Meredith Pucci for further information and to receive a complete position description.
