This Week
Authority
Matthew’s Gospel continues, and so do Jesus’ miracles, but what we especially notice in Matthew 8:18-27 is Jesus’ authority. In some ways, it is like the authority we see and would expect, but in some ways it is very different. Join us to learn how and why it’s an authority to follow. Worship with us on Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
Call meeting for Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision
On Thursday, August 28, at 5:30 PM, we will be calling for a Lead Pastor for Preaching and Vision. Timing of the call meeting is driven by consultation with our District President based on the summer months’ activity and eligibility of candidates. Joining us in support of the call meeting will be Circuit Pastor Jonathan Bauer (Good News Lutheran Church, Mount Horeb). After a discussion of candidates provided by our District President, the voters of St. Andrew will choose one to whom we will extend a call.
Introduction to our new Integrator
We welcome Pastor Elton Stroh, who has agreed to join our Ministry Leadership Committee (MLC) serving as our Integrator, a role established in conjunction with our long-term vision plans within our Comprehensive Ministry Plan. In this role, Pastor Stroh will work closely with the MLC staff to direct our ministry operations by championing our model of ministry, leading weekly pulse meetings and ministry planning, identifying ministry challenges/opportunities, etc. As a long-time St. Andrew member, Pastor Stroh previously served as Executive Director of Crossroads Consulting Ministry for 15 years, advising congregations on strategic planning, organizational alignment, ministry implementation, and leadership development. The Lord continues to bless our ministry at St. Andrew!

A Place of Peace
Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project
Parking lot construction update
How many people do you think have come in and out of our building in 24 years? That’s how long we have been entering into this facility through the front vestibule. God has blessed us tremendously over that time, but it is time to start putting in the foundations for the new building. Starting Tuesday, July 15, the main entrance will move to the north gym doors until mid-August, and the front vestibule will come down. Watch for signage and greeters to point you to the correct entrance. The doorbell, keypad, and intercom services will be relocated to these north gym doors as well so you can enter the building as you normally would.
When visiting St. Andrew during the week, park on the north side of the parking lot between the Kraemer Brothers trailer and the center islands. This weekend, July 10 & 13, you CAN park on both sides of the lot even though the south side is torn up.
Parmenter Street road construction
Construction on Parmenter Street continues. To get to St. Andrew it is recommended to take one of these alternate routes:
- From the north, County Road K to Church Road to Schneider Road.
- From the south, Airport Road to Capitol View Road to Schneider Road.
On evenings after 6:30 and weekends you can use one of the routes above or take Highway 12 to the Parmenter Street Exit #249 and drive around the barriers.
This construction project is between Century Avenue and Greenbriar Road and will last until October. We will keep you updated as we learn more and appreciate your patience.
A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”
Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Children’s Ministry Day
Children in kindergarten – grade 6 are invited to Garner Park on Wednesday, July 23. Our focus is Jesus: The Light of the World. Children will make a candle and learn about lesser lights like fire and the sun. They will learn new songs and play fun games. Drop off your children for a 3:30 PM start. At 5:30, parents and guests are invited to return for a hot dog cookout and celebration service. Find more details and register here. Please register by July 13.
Parents’ Night Out
Middle school and high school students from St. Andrew are raising money for A Place of Peace, and parents of young children can help by planning a kid-free night. On Sunday, July 27, you can drop your children off (4 years old up to grade 8) at St. Andrew starting at 5 PM and enjoy an evening out. The only thing we ask is that you remember to return by 8 PM. Sign up here.
Here is the link for teens to sign up to help.
Impact
Paul fills his readers with joy in Christ throughout his writings. Perhaps nowhere more than in his epistle to the Philippians. This week President Earl Treptow from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary is here to share insight on the joy-filled message in Philippians 3. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Mission trip heading out
What better way to epitomize service and outreach than to go to another mission field and assist another church’s efforts to tell others about Jesus’ love? A team of eight from St. Andrew is doing exactly that next week, including Adam Bohl, Becca Parker, Esther Bohl, Jacob Bohl, Julia Nixon, Daniel Onsager, Natalie Onsager, and Lola Weiss. We pray that God bless them with safe travels and fruitful ministry.
Service opportunity | Children’s Ministry Day
Children’s Ministry Day is July 23 from 3:30 – 7:00 PM at Garner Park in Madison. Would you like to help bring this ministry to children of St. Andrew and the community? You can serve with food prep, as a group leader or game organizer, or in other ways. Contact Yvonne Onsager for details.
Service opportunity | outdoor greeters
With construction happening and intensifying soon, we want to make sure our guests (and members) know where to go. We are looking to assemble a team to help direct worshipers to parking and to the entrance before worship services. It’s a role you can do whichever service you attend. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.
Nice furniture to a good home
A St. Andrew member has downsized and is willing to donate some furniture in good condition.
- Queen size bed with mattress and box spring
- Wood (teak) king size bed
- 2 nightstands (for bed)
Contact Pastor Clinton for pictures or if interested.
Monthly Mission Partner
July’s partner is Christian Aid & Relief, an organization of our church body whose mission is to reflect Christ’s love and compassion to souls suffering from disasters and hardships. Because of what Christ has freely done for us, we eagerly show we care by offering our time, talents, and treasures to those in need. For a better idea of what CAR does, go to wels.net/relief.
