This Week

Follow me
In Matthew 9, Jesus issues a simple invitation to a tax collector. He issues the same invitation to all of us. In the tax collector’s case, some objected that he was a sinner, but if Jesus had come to call the righteous, he would not have called anyone. By God’s grace, we follow Jesus too. Join us to worship him Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Children’s Ministry Day and Parents Night Out
35 children attended Children’s Ministry Day last week at Garner Park. They learned about Jesus, the light of the world, and were served by many teens and adults who were eager to share Jesus’ love. Popsicles capped off our efforts to beat the heat. Thank you to all who attended and served. It truly was a great event.

Teens from St. Andrew recently offered a Parents’ Night Out while raising money for A Place of Peace. 13 teens spent the early evening watching several children while their parents enjoyed a relaxing night away from their children. It went so well that another one is already being planned. Thank you to all who made this night go so well.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
Within the next two weeks, the new south parking lots will be paved and striped and we will shift entrances one more time. When those lots are open, we will move the building entrance to the main entrance on the south end of the building. We will continue to enter through those doors until the project is complete next summer. There is a doorbell and keypads on that end as well. Traffic at that point will enter through the NEW driveway off Schneider Road.

For now when visiting St. Andrew during the week, park in the new north parking lot. On weekends, you can park in the new north lot as well as any open spots on the north side of the original parking lot.

Construction on Parmenter Street continues. To get to St. Andrew, it is recommended to take one of these alternate routes:

  • From the north, County Road K to Church Road to Schneider Road
  • From the south, Airport Road to Capitol View Road to Schneider Road

On evenings after 6:30 and weekends you can use one of the routes above or take Highway 12 to the Parmenter Street Exit #249 and drive around the barriers. This construction project is between Century Avenue and Greenbriar Road and will last until October. We will keep you updated as we learn more and appreciate your patience.

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow in Grace returns in August
We naturally spend a lot of time at St. Andrew learning about the Bible’s content. At our next Grow in Grace, the focus will be less on content and more on the history of Scripture. Dr. Stephen Geiger from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary will present on the origin, preservation, and translation of the Bible. This series will help you gain a greater understanding of and appreciation for this gracious gift from God. The Bible: How It Came to Be will be in the sanctuary on August 10, 17, and 24 from 9:30 – 10:15 AM.

Childcare for Grow in Grace
Are you interested in using our available childcare for the upcoming Grow in Grace? Please be sure to email Children’s Ministry Director Emma Nolte.

Impact podcast
The early church learned a valuable lesson in the story of Ananias and Sapphira. Simply put: do not lie to God. We can learn many more lessons from this true story in Acts 5. Dr. Phil Huebner is here to help us learn. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Rock Hill mission trip
If you missed the video from Mission Rock Hill, see some highlights of their activity here. You can also view lots of pictures here.

Service opportunity | crafts assistant for Plugged into Jesus
If you enjoy planning arts and crafts, consider serving in our children’s ministry. Plugged Into Jesus is looking for a crafts assistant for four art projects this fall semester. Contact Children’s Ministry Director Emma Nolte if interested.

Service opportunity | outdoor greeters
Now that construction means altered parking and main entrance, we want to make sure our guests (and members) know where to go. Join the team to help direct worshipers to parking and to the entrance before worship services. It’s a role you can do whichever service you attend. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.

New service role for 10:30 worshipers
If you prefer the late Sunday service and are willing to stick around for a half hour or so afterward, then a new service role is waiting for you. You don’t need any special skills, just some very basic computer competency. Contact Pastor Clinton to learn more.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our August partner is our local assistance fund. This is one way we help those in physical need. We show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love. St. Andrew has helped community members with groceries, gas, utilities, car repairs, children’s Christmas gifts, and more.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Job/ministry opportunity
Westside Christian School is in need of an after school care worker (paid position) for the younger group (age 3 through 2nd grade). The hours are 3:15 – 5:00 each day. If interested, please reach out to Ellen Goetz.

WCS is also in need of several classroom assistants. These are paid positions. If you are interested, please contact Principal Daniel Plath for more information.
