This Sunday

“And always let your conscience be your guide . . .”
Really? Take advice from Jiminy Cricket, bit character in the original Pinocchio? The author of Pinocchio, Carlo Collodi of Florence, Italy, made Jiminy Cricket a minor character killed off in the tragic children’s tale. Disney turned him into a whimsical sidekick who becomes Pinocchio’s conscience. The problem is he isn’t a very good conscience. He’s inexperienced, not open to change, and frequently mistaken. We want a better conscience. In Acts 23:1-11, Paul shows us how to get it. Gather with saints on Thursday or Sunday to get a better conscience.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Science Camp
We hear all the time, “God is good.” That is so true. Among the countless examples is Science Camp. 50+ joyful servants shared the “Wonders of Water” and the love of Jesus with 100+ eager campers. Thank you to all you served and all who entrusted your children to us. To God be the glory!

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Thank you, Lead Musicians
St. Andrew’s lead musicians—Jonathan Fricke, Kim Gnewuch, Karen Hunter, Kris Lund, Kevin Meske, Ava Heckmann, and Madison Kremer—met with Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs this week to review what went well with the music in worship this past year and what we can look forward to in the upcoming year. Our Lead Musicians not only play piano for worship, but also do a lot of behind the scenes service: assisting in picking arrangements used in worship, scheduling and leading music team rehearsals, encouraging youth and adult musicians, serving at milestone events such as funerals and weddings, and many more. We are so grateful for their leadership in our music ministry!

Livestream team
Have you recently worshiped online? Thanks to our videographers, each week our service is live streamed at 10:30 AM so that others can still worship if they are unable to make it to the building for services. If you have an interest in media or technology, consider serving on this team. The skills and programs can certainly be taught. For more information, reach out to team lead Dan Wasmer or Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Fall Growth Groups
The weather is heating up, and that means we are in the thick of summer. However, fall will be here before we know it, and that will bring new opportunities for you to join a St. Andrew Growth Group. St. Andrew Growth Groups provide a way to grow in your faith and grow in connection to our church family. You will have several to choose from. Sign-ups will begin in August.

Grow in Grace
That rainbow you see after a rain shower is a reason to rejoice in the faithfulness of God. We learn what the rainbow means to Christians in the aftermath of the flood.  Let’s Talk about the Rainbow is our next series for Grow in Grace. This 4-week whole church Bible study leads up to the promise God gave after the flood. Let’s Talk about the Flood begins August 7 at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary.

  • Week 1 | The reason for the flood
  • Week 2 | The ark and its contents
  • Week 3 | The flood (with special guest Mr. Mark Bergemann, President of Lutheran Science Institute)
  • Week 4 | God’s promise to never again use water to destroy the earth
Impact
There were 400 years of history between the end of the Old Testament and the arrival of John the Baptist and his desert ministry. This time is called the “Silent Years,” because there were no messages from God. Listen to Professor Paul Koelpin talk about the world history that took place during these years leading up to the birth of Christ. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Thank you
Your faith is showing. The dozens of men, women, and children who served the Manzeck family at the funeral of our little brother Brooks were a beautiful display of Christian love and service. Thank you to all who played for the service and operated the AV booth, planned the reception, purchased the food, set up the gym, prepared the food, served the food, and cleaned up after. Your kind words and actions were a comfort to the family and a witness of your love for Jesus and the Manzecks.

Mission Trips thank you
Dear St. Andrew,

We can’t thank you enough for giving us all the opportunity to share God’s love and serve the desperate need there is in Seattle. The mature interactions we witnessed on our Mission Trip coupled with the deep spiritual conversations and time we spent in the Word were nothing short of humbling. The incredibly helpful spirit of the teens, their positivity, and their overall ease and willingness to adjust as needed is a tribute to the families and this congregation for raising such awesome disciples of Christ. We could not have completed this mission outreach without your help, and we are forever grateful for your support and continued investment in our youth’s spiritual growth and mission mindset.

August Monthly Mission Partner
Learning is what college is for. In addition to subjects studied, students also learn about other cultures, beliefs, and worldviews. All that is good, unless it becomes a god and replaces the truth of the true God. Students in college need our prayers and our ministry. Students at UW Madison have the benefit of Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel and Student Center. It’s a place to study, meet friends, and look at options through the lens of Christian faith. For decades St. Andrew has partnered with “The Chapel,” in worship, ministries, and with our prayers and financial support. Your offerings to our “Monthly Mission Partner” will support the ministry of The Chapel. You can check out what they’re doing here. Better yet, the next time you’re on State Street, turn north at The Chocolate Shop, see The Chapel, and stop in for a visit.

Call
Pray for Pastor Nathan Wordell and Rachel as they determine where they will use their gifts for God’s purposes: in his current call at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton or as our Pastor for Service and Outreach.

General carpentry skills?
Thanks to a grant, we are installing 14 new large screen touch TVs in all the classrooms. If you can work a screwdriver and a level, you can help move whiteboards, remove smart screens, and install the new TVs. The work is happening now; you’ll be working with expert installers. Please contact info@st-andrew-online.org or call 608-831-8540.
