This Sunday

Click words
Savvy tech operators track your online moves and suggest sites for you. They know your “click words.” That’s not so bad and might even be helpful. But most of us also have click words that close our minds. When we hear them, we have our minds made up already. It’s a kind of prejudice, really. The apostle Paul knew his audience, so in his great defense to the people of Jerusalem (Acts 22:1-22) he used a click word. It closed their minds, but it’s exactly what Paul needed to tell them. Their click word was “Gentile.” We barely yawn over it. But mention another word, another subject, and it gets a rise—a rise in pulse, breathing, and blood pressure. What’s your click word? Maybe the Lord intends to speak to you about it this weekend because he knows you need it. Join the courageous family of God to listen to his Word together this Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Call extended
St. Andrew has called Pastor Nathan Wordell to serve as our Pastor for Service and Outreach. Currently, Pastor Wordell serves Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Appleton as Associate Pastor for Family, Youth, and School. He and his wife Rachel have a one-year-old child, Soren. Please pray for them as they determine where they will serve Jesus’ church.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Livestream team
Have you recently worshiped online? Thanks to our videographers, each week our service is livestreamed at 10:30 AM so that others can still worship if they are unable to make it to the building for services. If you have an interest in media or technology, consider serving on this team. The skills and programs can certainly be taught. For more information, reach out to team lead Dan Wasmer or Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Science Camp celebration service | Thursday, July 21
Join us Thursday, July 21, for a special Science Camp celebration. At 7 PM, we will celebrate the great things God is doing at our Science Camp during the week. Campers will bring their families for singing, a devotion, and a video/slideshow. The celebration will be capped off with special yummy treats for all. Celebrate with us and make our guests feel welcome.

Milestones
Worship in the 10:30 service this weekend and you get to see a miracle. Two miracles. Micah Dammann, son of Daniel and Erica, and Ila Schmitz, daughter of Brandon and Erin, will be welcomed into God’s family through the blessing of Holy Baptism. It’s the greatest day in their lives, for the rest of their lives. Let’s celebrate together!

The second greatest day in life is when Christian couples take vows to live together as husband and wife for the rest of their lives. Jordan Veers and Weston Swarztrauber will make those vows to their Lord and to each other this Thursday, July 14. Jordan and Weston will be heading out this weekend for their medical schools in Tucson. But they’ll be heading out as husband and wife. May God bless their training and their lives together.

Westside Christian School teacher Jack Murphy will be marrying Michelle Boldt this Friday at Michelle’s home church near Milwaukee. We are grateful Jack is a ministry partner at St. Andrew, and now we’re grateful Michelle will be his partner for life. We look forward to welcoming Michelle into the St. Andrew family.

Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Pre-Marriage Workshop
You put time into planning for the dress, the band, the menu, the seating, the invitations, etc. And as good as it all is, it will all be gone a couple hours after you say your vows. Your marriage, though, remains. Plenty of wedding planning experts and websites offer to help you plan your wedding. Let us help you plan for a marriage that honors God and a lifetime of bringing joy to your spouse. St. Andrew offers two Pre-Marriage Workshops each year to our community. The next one is on Saturday, July 23. If you’re engaged, you can register now. Registration closes on Sunday, July 17. This isn’t just for people of St. Andrew. Forward this invitation and the link to engaged couples you know who want to gain valuable skills for a Christian marriage.

Science Camp
St. Andrew Andrew Science Camp is July 18 – 21 from 8:30 – 11:30 AM. Our theme is “The Wonders of Water.” St. Andrew Science Camp is for 4K – grade 6. Kids in grades 7 – 8 can serve as Leaders-in-Training. If you need registration information, contact Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad.

Science Camp serving opportunities
“The Wonders of Water!” Can you hear the thunder? A storm is coming—a storm of volunteers, that is! God’s kids need just a trickle more class leaders. Dive into the pool! The deluge of snacks won’t serve themselves—you could serve in the kitchen. Will you be left out in the rain? Questions about serving? Contact Jane Dew.

Impact
Making the church give off a pleasant aroma is not easy for sinners, but for the early church it sure was effective for growing the church. Can it work today? Listen to part 2 with Pastor Kent Reeder on the closing verse of Acts 2. You can find Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Mission trips heading out this week
You are sending ten people to help Illume Church in Seattle. The groups left on Tuesday and will be serving there for about a week. May God bless their work to help our mission partner church. Mission team members are Ali Fanello and Christine Kuhaupt (team leaders), Amelia Povich, Mia Teteak, Kate Thiele, Kylie Roekle, Nate Schaal, Dom and Skylar Fanello, and Maya Heckmann.

You are also sending two St. Andrew members to help with our mission partner church, Costa Maya Ministries in Mahahual, Mexico. Brittany Engel and Hannah Ihlenfeldt will join forces with four others from a sister church in Minnesota. May God bless them with safe travels and fruitful labor for his kingdom.

Wesley Chapel Mission Trip

July Monthly Mission Partner
This month we support with our offerings and prayers the Hmong Outreach in Vietnam. In 2011 the Hmong Fellowship Church invited the WELS into Vietnam to help train their church leaders in the teachings of the Bible. Since that time, the Christian Church in Vietnam has grown by God’s grace. The communist government noticed the positive changes and in 2018 invited the WELS to build a theological education center in the capital of Hanoi. We thank God for opening doors to spread the gospel in Vietnam. To learn more about this mission, visit the WELS website.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Office assistant position
Westside Christian School is adding an office assistant position to our team in the 2022 – 2023 school year. This full-time position (August 1 – May 31) will support WCS’s principal and administrative assistant. This person will manage DPI reports, Choice and Special Needs Scholarship Program paperwork, and milk and lunch program documentation. They will also assist the staff in ordering supplies and curricular materials and perform other general office tasks as needed. If you are interested or would like the full position description, please contact Meredith Pucci.

Afternoon 4K lead teacher position
Westside Christian School is looking for a qualified candidate who would be interested in being a lead teacher in our 4K program (12:00 PM – 3:30 PM). Ideal candidates have preschool experience and an elementary education degree or have taken early childhood certification classes. Candidates also should demonstrate a willingness to cooperate with other staff and find joy in working with children. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more, contact Meredith Pucci.

Ministry Support

Gifted for pulling or spraying weeds?
We all have our gifts, right? That’s biblical. And although the Bible doesn’t say anything about pulling weeds or spraying weed killer, such work does present our ministry in the best light. Your field of labor would be the rock islands in the parking lot, the sidewalks and the stone border around the building. We’ll supply all you need. If this sounds like your thing, you can help by contacting Steve Veers.

Building Repairs
Do you have gifts or interests in any of the following areas? It’s time to spruce up the inside of the building before another school year begins and there are lots of opportunities to get involved:

  • Painting – lots and lots of painting!
  • Drywalling in all the bathrooms
  • Minor wall repair in a few areas around the building

To get involved, email Amy Hutter or call the church office at (608)831-8540. We are hoping to have all this work completed by August 17.
