This Week
Shortcuts
Everyone loves a good shortcut, but they’re usually called that for a reason. If it were truly the best option, it would just be the way. With a shortcut you’re sacrificing something or taking a risk. In Romans 2, the apostle Paul warns about spiritual shortcuts, a temptation that plagued ancient Israel and first century Christians. Today’s world is no different. We want all the credit, but we want things easy. Let God’s Word teach you what the best and only way is. Continue our Romans series with us Thursday night at 7 PM or Sunday morning at 8 AM or 10:30 AM.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention
Call meeting
St. Andrew will call candidates for two different roles in our ministry of Westside Christian School: 1) principal and 2) middle school special education and English. We trust the Spirit to place men and women in positions of ministry where he wishes to place them. At 11:45 AM on Sunday, February 11, we’ll review the candidates, the voters will choose one for each position, and then we’ll trust the Spirit for the answers he gives.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Wednesday Lent devotions | Cross Peace
“He himself is our peace . . . through the cross” (Ephesians 2:14,16).
Gather with brothers and sisters on the six Wednesdays of Lent beginning February 14 at 5:00 or 6:30 PM. Stay for dinner provided by one of our St. Andrew Best Chefs from 5:30 – 6:15 PM. Livestream will be available at 5:00 PM.
We have prepared wooden crosses for each family. Pick up your family’s cross in the atrium during the next two weekends. Then, at each Wednesday service you will receive a “piece” to take home and place on your own cross. Each piece will remind you of Jesus’ suffering and death for our sins. Display your cross, with the pieces, for all to see. Show your guests that in his cross, we have peace.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Men of His Word
The annual Men of His Word conference in Oshkosh is coming up on February 17. Men of His Word equips Christian men to take a leadership role within their family, within their congregation, and in their community. Each year a group of men from St. Andrew attend. Go here to learn more about the conference and to register. Reach out to St. Andrew Men’s Ministry leader Brian Fritz about carpooling.
A Morning for Your Marriage—Trust
Have you noticed how some stars seem to disappear if you look directly at them? To see them, you almost have to look sideways. The reason has to do with rods and cone sensors in our eyes, but I don’t understand that. I do know that trust is like that. You don’t build it directly, but husbands and wives can build trust by a thousand other actions. That we can grow to understand and practice. That’s what we’ll do in our next A Morning for Your Marriage, from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday, February 24. Guests are welcome, and so are children. Childcare will be available, but we ask that you register by Monday, February 19.
Impact
The authority of Jesus has no limits, and it works in your favor. How wonderful is that! Listen to this week’s Impact episode to learn truths from the true story of Jesus driving out a demon in Mark 1. You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”
PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to learn more about healthy living at the next PowerHour! Join us on Friday, February 2, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. Click here for more information on PowerHour.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
One body, many members | New service survey
St. Andrew is a community of Christians who love God, love others, and serve the world. Service takes many forms, but there’s a role for everyone. The purpose of this survey is to make you aware of various areas of service so that you can identify ways that you might like to serve, whether immediately or in the future. Whether you are still trying to find the role for you or are completely happy in your role, please take five minutes to complete the new survey to enhance St. Andrew’s efforts to involve people in ministry effectively. One Body, Many Members Survey.
Lenten meals: setup, service, and cleanup
Starting February 14, additional opportunities to gather and focus on our Savior will enhance the season of Lent. These gatherings also include fellowship meals. A great opportunity for you or your Growth Group to serve is by assisting the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup. Sign up here.
Monthly Mission Partner
Our March Monthly Mission Partner is the St. Andrew ministry of mission trips. This summer, teens and adults will go to several different locations to help spread the gospel of Jesus. Not everyone will go on a mission trip, but you can still support them with prayers, encouragement, and offerings. Both the host congregations of mission trips and the participants themselves have always appreciated St. Andrew’s support.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Call updates
Jake Unke and Katie Rath have both returned their calls to serve at Westside Christian School. In addition, we can keep Karl Kuschel in our prayers as he deliberates a call to Abiding Word Lutheran School in Houston, Texas, to teach middle school math and religion. A call meeting at St. Andrew is set for Sunday, February 11, after the 10:30 service, to call for two positions: principal and middle school special education and ELA teacher.
Ministry Partners of Westside Christian School & St. Andrew,
Over the past couple weeks, I have had the humbling opportunity to consider joining your ministry in Middleton. One of the things that is most evident to me through my many conversations and correspondence is the excitement surrounding your ministry. Every person I communicated with shared this sentiment. Praise God that he has brought y’all together to serve his mission there with such zeal.
At this time, the Lord has led me to return the call you extended to me. My confidence is that my time serving at Divine Savior Academy is not yet complete. I also have confidence that the right leader will emerge at the right time for WCS. What you have incorporated and prioritized in this call is one that many experienced administrators would desire. I also believe that WCS could benefit from someone more experienced than myself in the world of school choice and special education.
As you continue trusting that God will provide the suitable person for your position, please let me share how encouraging it is to see a ministry be as outreach and mission-minded as yours. It is my feeling that we need more schools like WCS and DSA that put their mission first. I have deep admiration for your team in doing this with many WELS schools of different purpose nearby. Keep doing what you’re doing! It is awesome to see how God has blessed your efforts and will continue to do so into the future.
Your Brother in Christ,
Jacob Unke
—————————————-
Dear members, faculty, and students of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and Westside Christian School,
Greetings again in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To begin, I want to thank you for the phone calls and emails I have received and for keeping me in your prayers these last few weeks. I, too, have spent much time thinking and praying about this call, reflecting on the gifts God has given me and where I can best use those abilities. While considering the blessings and needs of both schools, God has led me to see that my work at St. John’s Lutheran is not finished yet. For this reason, I have decided to return the call to serve at Westside Christian School and continue serving in Mukwonago.
St. Andres and Westside will certainly remain in my prayers as you continue to call to fill this position. I have confidence that God will provide the right teacher to join your faculty for the upcoming school year. God be with you in the days ahead.
Your sister in Christ,
Katie Rath
Father-Daughter Ball
Fathers and their daughters are invited to “An Enchanted Evening” of dancing and fun! Our annual Father-Daughter Ball is being held on Saturday, February 10, from 6 to 9 PM in the St. Andrew Lutheran Church gymnasium. The cost of the event will be $5 per person. You can register to attend this magical night here. |

Help the WCS track team
Westside Christian School is currently looking for someone with the gifts to head coach our WCS track team in the spring. The season will start in early April with a commitment of two practices per week. The season ends in late May and is accompanied with three to four track meets throughout the season. We currently have an outstanding staff of assistant coaches. The former head coach is also willing to work with the new head coach prior to the season to ease the transition into the role. It is a great opportunity to serve our school and help our students glorify God with their talents. Please reach out to our athletic director, Jack Murphy, if you have any questions or are interested.
Help needed in the Welcome Center
If you are interested in paid employment helping out in the Welcome Center on days when the receptionist is not here, please contact Principal Meredith Pucci. Candidates need to be available on school days from 8 AM to 1 PM, with an option to stay later if there is enough work to keep busy. General computer knowledge and attention to detail is required. |
