This Sunday

When you disagree
American League baseball umpire Bill Guthrie was working behind the plate and the catcher for the visiting team was repeatedly protesting his calls. Guthrie put up with it for a few innings, and then pulled the catcher aside. “Son,” he said softly, “you’ve been a big help to me in calling balls and strikes today, and I appreciate it. But I think I’ve got the hang of it now, so I’m going to ask you to go to the clubhouse and show whoever’s there how to take a shower.” Conflicts are unavoidable; how we handle them is optional. This Thursday or Sunday, learn from the conflict between Paul and Barnabas in Acts 15: 36-41. More than that, let the Spirit guide you to respond to your conflicts in ways that bring glory to God and good to his people.

Mission Trips 2022 application meeting | January 23
Are you considering going on a Mission Trip this summer, or have you previously been on a Mission Trip? If so, please plan to attend the application meeting on Sunday, January 23, at 9:30 AM, in the sanctuary. This also includes Mission Madison participants. We will be providing information for each mission to help you decide which trip may be most appropriate for you. This meeting also serves as a preliminary application to go on a Mission Trip.

We will also outline some factors that help select our mission partner and discuss how we may serve and grow in God’s Word. Our 2022 Mission Trip focus includes these potential locations: Greater Madison, Wisconsin; Sure Foundation Church, Brandon, South Dakota; Citrus Grove Church, Wesley Chapel, Florida; Illume Church, Seattle, Washington; and Mahahual, Mexico.

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Pre-Marriage Workshop
You put time into planning for the dress, the band, the menu, the seating, the invitations, etc. And as good as it all is, it will all be gone a couple hours after you say your vows. Your marriage, though, remains. Plenty of wedding planning experts and websites offer to help you plan your wedding. Let us help you plan for a marriage that honors God and a lifetime of bringing joy to your spouse. St. Andrew offers two Pre-Marriage Workshops each year to our community. The next one is on Saturday, February 5. If you’re engaged, you can register now. Registration closes on Sunday, January 30. This isn’t just for people of St. Andrew—forward this invitation and the link to engaged couples you know who want to plan for a Christian marriage.

St. Andrew library
Did you hear about the book that went to the doctor? She wasn’t feeling well so she thought she should get “checked out.” All jokes aside, the St. Andrew library is for you. Find a home devotion book, a commentary to help you better understand Scripture, or a book on a topic that interests you. Pictured are some of the recent additions. Find the green binder to check out a book the next time you’re at church, or visit our online catalog from home. The St. Andrew library is in the Soul Café.

Men of His Word
A group of St. Andrew men are taking a Bible road trip, and you can join us. The 13th annual Men of His Word Conference will be held at the Best Western Premier Waterfront Convention Center in Oshkosh on Saturday, February 19. Stop in the atrium while at worship to get more information and to register. You can also find more information about the conference here. Contact Brian Fritz with your questions.

Impact
“I am who I am.” These words from God to Moses are bursting with meaning. Learn all about this mysterious phrase from Dr. Mark Paustian of Martin Luther College. Click here for a new Impact, or find it where you listen to podcasts. Search “Kjenstad Impact.” Impact is new every Monday, and all past episodes are available.

Musikgarten
Infants and toddlers with their parents move to music together! Come to Musikgarten and experience music and rhythm. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
You heard about God’s promises to Abram—now try counting the stars as you name God’s promises to you! There will be more promises this week: “A Laughable Promise: Isaac is Born.” New friends are always welcome! Unit 4 virtual Kits for grades Pre-K3 – grade 5 are available for pickup in the atrium. Use this link to watch the Bible teaching video. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Spark
What makes you laugh? Tell us about it as you hear a laughable moment in this week’s lesson! Grade 6 – 8 meet for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Mission Trip T-shirts
Mission team T-shirts from prior Mission Trips are still available in several sizes. They are set out on a table in the atrium. They appear to be going fast, so pick one up while they are still offered! This is the last week for selecting a shirt. Voluntary donations can be made to the Mission Trip Restricted Fund using the envelopes on the table. Thank you for supporting our mission teams and our ministry to local, national, and international mission partners.

January Monthly Mission Partner
Our January Mission Partner is the Local Assistance Fund. The Love of Christ (TLC) ministry team works with this fund to provide love where it is desperately needed. This may come in the form of a handwritten note, aid for those who are homeless, spiritual counseling, or money for car repairs, gas, or food. The Local Assistance Fund could help someone you know or those who drop in looking for assistance. You and our volunteers make this happen. Thank you!

A note on volunteering
Throughout the year, our Ministry team develops volunteer schedules and provides guidance for more than 200 individuals who serve at St. Andrew in a variety of ways (e.g. ushering, preparing Communion, running the sound system, advancing slides, entering data into CCB, traveling with mission teams, etc.). Whether you serve one time for an event or in a more extended role, our God is glorified, and people are blessed by your demonstration of faith in service. Thank you one and all who step up. You are a blessing!

Connect | Serve | Impact Survey
Church Community Builder (CCB) is linked to our Connection Card process to enhance our community portal. Filling out a Connection Card also ensures that our information is up-to-date and accurate. Please log in to CCB to verify that you and your family’s information is current, and please take the Connect | Serve | Impact Survey. If you have already updated your survey in 2021, we will be reaching out to you soon to suggest new ways to plug in and serve that fit your interest and gifts. Thank you.

Thank you
St. Andrew,
Thank you for all the cards, phone calls, and visits after Mel died. Your words of encouragement, friendly faces, and compassionate notes were very uplifting to me and my family.
Thank you to Pastor Hunter for his support. I am so grateful to be a part of the St. Andrew church family.

2022 – 2023 enrollment
Enrollment for the 2022 – 2023 school year has begun. If you are interested in enrolling students from Pre-K3 through 8th grade for next school year, you can apply online via TADS. We anticipate that some classrooms may immediately reach capacity. Families who submit an application for a room that is at capacity are placed on the waiting list. Reach out to Principal Meredith Pucci with any questions.

Call received
Kim Gnewuch, our 3rd grade teacher, received a call to teach 2nd grade and to be the school music director at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Beverly Hills, Florida. She welcomes your prayers and comments in the near future as she prayerfully deliberates where she can best carry out God’s command to feed his lambs, whether here at St. Andrew and Westside Christian or at St. Paul’s.
