This Week

A tastier banquet
Read the Bible and you’ll encounter dozens of banquets—not the hot dish potluck kind, but the real deal. In some places, the Bible even describes heaven as a banquet. Isaiah wrote, “Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples, a banquet of aged wine—the best of meats and the finest of wines” (Isaiah 25:6). Yet when Daniel was offered a banquet we would gladly settle into, he refused. Why? Read Daniel 1 this week, then gather with your brothers and sisters to determine which banquets to refuse and which ones to enjoy. Salivate over the banquet Jesus prepares for you.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Pre-Marriage Workshop
You put time into planning the dress, the band, the menu, the seating, the invitations, etc. And it’s all gone a couple hours after you say your vows. Your marriage, though, remains.  Let us help you plan for a lifetime of marriage that honors God and brings joy to your spouse. St. Andrew offers two Pre-Marriage Workshops each year to our community. The next one is Saturday, January 28. Get more information and register at st-andrew-online.org/marriage.  Registration ends on Sunday, January 22. Tell an engaged friend about it.

Grow in Grace
“I worry that I worry too much.” That is the latest series at Grow in Grace. This whole church Bible study will give you encouragement to worry less and trust more. The 4-part series continues January 22 at 9:30 in the sanctuary.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Adult Choir
Blend your voice with others to sing God’s praise. We’ll rehearse at 7 PM on Wednesdays January 25, February 1, and February 8 in Room 115 to sing for worship on Sunday, February 12. High-school-age and older are welcome to attend. Questions? Email Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.

Milestones
Our brother Kevin Ostrand died on Friday, December 30 after suffering a stroke. His funeral will be at St. Andrew at 11:00 AM, this Saturday, January 21. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. A luncheon after the funeral will help those who gather remember the gift Kevin was to us and celebrate gifts God has now given Kevin because of his faith in Jesus. If you’d like to help set up for the luncheon, pick up food, serve food, or clean up afterward, please contact Amy Hutter.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

For information and to register, click here. If you register, contact Brian Fritz or Mark Kjenstad to coordinate carpooling with other men from St. Andrew.

Impact
God’s people have heard the words at the end of Numbers 6 for thousands of years, and they never get old. Listen to Pastor Nate Wordell from Wisconsin Lutheran College connect these words to our triune God. You can find our St. Andrew podcast Impact here or wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
If you have a little one 3 or younger, check out this enriching ministry. PowerHour is for children and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. For more details, click here. The next PowerHour is January 20 at 10:30 AM, and the theme is “simple machines.”

Sunday morning children’s ministries
Musikgarten, PowerHour, and Spark have returned! All who attend grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. These important ministries also lay a foundation for developing lives of faithful service to our gracious Lord. No registration is required. Musikgarten and PowerHour welcome children beginning at 9:20 AM, and Spark begins at 9:25 AM.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Calling chefs for Lenten meals
Lent 2023 brings a great opportunity for those with passion and skill in the kitchen. If that’s you, consider serving as a chef for one of St. Andrew’s Lenten meals. You will not be responsible for service, cleanup, or expenses; you can focus on the food. The dates are February 22 and the following five Wednesdays. If you are interested, contact Pastor Clinton.

Mission Trips
Included in St. Andrew’s purpose statement is to “serve the world.” Several opportunities to do that are coming this summer through Mission Trips. Teens and adults will grow in their faith, encourage others, and share the love of Jesus through various acts of service to congregations and communities outside of St. Andrew. What a way to take part in Jesus’ Great Commission. More information is coming in February.

Monthly Mission Partner
January’s Monthly Mission Partner is Costa Maya Ministries in Mahahual, Mexico. See the below video for an update from Pastor Valleskey.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call extended
On Sunday, January 15, St. Andrew called Ms. Liz Henke to teach 1st grade beginning in the 2023-24 school year. Ms. Henke is currently teaching 2nd grade at Risen Savior in Pooler, Georgia. Please keep her in your prayers as she deliberates where to serve.

Westside Christian School enrollment
Enrollment for the 2023 – 2024 school year at WCS has begun! If you are interested in enrolling students from Pre-K3 through 8th grade for next school year, you can apply online via TADS. Enrollment was made available to the community beginning on January 17. We anticipate that some classrooms may immediately reach capacity. Families who submit an application for a room that is at capacity are placed on the waiting list. Reach out to Principal Meredith Pucci with any questions.

Father-daughter dance
Daughters and their fathers are invited to “A Night Under the Stars,” a spectacular night of fun and dancing. This special event will be held on Saturday, February 11, from 6 – 9 PM, in St. Andrew’s gymnasium. The cost of the event is $5 per person.

Please click here to register by Friday, February 3. During the event, we would like to pay tribute to the attendees. Please email a picture your daughter and their guest to Laura Westphal. If you have more than one daughter, you can include separate pictures of each. All pictures will be kept confidential and only used during the event.
