This Sunday

There are many decisions we make each day without thinking about them. One question that plays into this decision-making process is, “Is it worth it?” Is it worth it to stay a few extra hours at work? Or is it worth it to go home so you can return the next day refreshed, ready to work? This Sunday, as we enter the season of Epiphany, we learn from the Magi who set out to worship their newborn King. This journey had its detours along the way. So was it worth it for these Magi? This weekend we will dig into the question, “Is it worth it?” Is it worth it to worship our newborn King? Join us this Thursday at 7 PM or Sunday at 8 and 10:30 AM as we gather, just as the Magi did, to worship our newborn King.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Christmas thank you
“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given!” The miracle of our Savior’s birth is still ringing through the air. Many St. Andrew members showed their thankfulness to Jesus throughout the month of December, including about 70 musicians and choir members, many of whom served multiple times. To ALL who served this Christmas season—greeters, ushers, musicians, choirs, AV experts, videographers, artists, decorators, worship folder assemblers, lay readers, counters, and so many more—THANK YOU! All glory to the newborn King!Taking down the Christmas trees
After worship on Sunday, January 9, we will be taking down our three Christmas trees. If you and your family are willing to help with one of the trees, or if you could help take the trees back to storage, please contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs.Return to Acts | January 13 & 16
We will be returning to our Acts II sermon series the weekend of January 16. Time to dust off those Acts books and bring them along to church again! If you haven’t picked one up or need a new one, there will be more in the atrium.

Worship Check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder each week. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Grow in Grace
How is your prayer life? Are you a prayer warrior, or are you lacking in prayer? Either way, Jesus has a lot to say to you about prayer. “Lord Teach Us to Pray” is the next series for Grow in Grace. This two-week whole-church Bible study will help you learn from the ultimate prayer warrior, our Savior Jesus. Attend Grow in Grace on January 9 and 16 at 9:30 AM.Impact
Herod the Great wasn’t that great, except when it came to evil. Pastor Jim Pope shares his insight about this evil ruler and tells us where to turn when trying to understand the ways of God. Click here for a new Impact, or find it where you listen to podcasts. Search “Kjenstad Impact.” Impact is new every Monday, and all past episodes are available.Pre-Marriage Workshop
You put time into planning for the dress, the band, the menu, the seating, the invitations, etc. And as good as it all is, it will all be gone a couple hours after you say your vows. Your marriage, though, remains. Plenty of wedding planning experts and websites offer to help you plan your wedding. Let us help you plan for a marriage that honors God and a lifetime of bringing joy to your spouse. St. Andrew offers two Pre-Marriage Workshops each year to our community. The next one is on Saturday, February 5. If you’re engaged, you can register now. Registration closes on Sunday, January 30. This isn’t just for people of St. Andrew—forward this invitation and the link to engaged couples you know who want to plan for a Christian marriage.

PowerHour
PowerHour returns January 7. PowerHour is for children up to age 3 and their parent/guardian. PowerHour happens on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month, from 10:30 – 11:25 AM, in the gymnasium. Each session consists of play time, stories, songs, and a kid-friendly Bible lesson. This week’s theme is Colors and Shapes! Invite a friend and their child to join you! No registration is needed. Contact St. Andrew Staff Minister for Nurture, Mark Kjenstad with your questions.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Happy New Year!
For some, each new year generates resolutions to do something better, such as losing weight, getting better nutrition, seeing friends more often, or getting into a Growth Group. This is an opportune time to consider new ways to identify and share spiritual gifts with others and serve in one of the more than 160 volunteer opportunities at St. Andrew. For more information, contact Curt Kephart.January Monthly Mission Partner
Our January Mission Partner will be the Local Assistance Fund. The Love of Christ (TLC) ministry team works with this fund to provide love where it is desperately needed. This may come in the form of a handwritten note, aid for those who are homeless, spiritual counseling, or money for car repairs, gas, or food. The Local Assistance Fund could help someone you know or those who drop in looking for assistance. You and our volunteers make this happen. Thank you!Mission Trips 2022 application meeting | January 23
Are you considering going on a Mission Trip this summer, or have you previously been on a Mission Trip? If so, please plan to attend the application meeting on Sunday, January 23, at 9:30 AM, in the sanctuary. This also includes Mission Madison participants. We will be providing information for each mission to help you decide which trip may be most appropriate for you. This meeting also serves as a preliminary application to go on a Mission Trip.

We will also outline some factors that help select our mission partner and discuss how we may serve and grow in God’s Word. Our 2022 Mission Trip focus includes these potential locations: Greater Madison, Wisconsin; Sure Foundation Church, Brandon, South Dakota; Citrus Grove Church, Wesley Chapel, Florida; Illume Church, Seattle, Washington; and Mahahual, Mexico.

Connect | Serve | Impact Survey
Church Community Builder (CCB) is linked to our Connection Card process to enhance our community portal. Filling out a Connection Card also ensures that our information is up-to-date and accurate. Please log in to CCB to verify that you and your family’s information is current, and please take the Connect | Serve | Impact Survey. If you have already updated your survey in 2021, we will be reaching out to you soon to suggest new ways to plug in and serve that fit your interest and gifts. Thank you.
