This Week

Squandered advantages
What kind of advantages have you had that you did not utilize? In what areas have you not lived up to your potential? Last week, the apostle Paul reminded us of our status before God: sinners because of our innate disposition toward evil but holy through the blood of Christ. This status is ours even as Gentiles. So what advantage did the Jews have, if any? What advantage do we have as God’s people today? Let’s continue to study Romans together, seeking God’s wisdom in utilizing our advantages. Join us 7:00 on Thursday night or Sunday morning at 8:00 or 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Call meeting
St. Andrew will call candidates for two different roles in our ministry of Westside Christian School: 1) principal and 2) middle school special education and English. We trust the Spirit to place men and women in positions of ministry where he wishes to place them. At 11:45 AM on Sunday, February 11, we’ll review the candidates, the voters will choose one for each position, and then we’ll trust the Spirit for the answers he gives.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Wednesday Lent devotions | Cross Peace
“He himself is our peace . . .  through the cross” (Ephesians 2:14,16).

Gather with brothers and sisters on the six Wednesdays of Lent beginning February 14 at 5:00 or 6:30 PM. Stay for dinner provided by one of our St. Andrew Best Chefs from 5:30 – 6:15 PM. Livestream will be available at 5:00 PM.

We have prepared wooden crosses for each family. They are available now. Pick up your family’s cross in the atrium during the week or when you come for worship. They are in alphabetical order by last name. At each Wednesday service, you will receive a “piece” to take home and place on your own cross. Each piece will remind you of Jesus’ suffering and death for our sins. Display your cross, with the pieces, for all to see. Show your guests that in his cross, we have peace.

Milestones
Easton and Austin Brunet, sons of Scott and Jaime, were baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Join us in praying for them, that the Holy Spirit, who has worked faith in their hearts through the Word they have heard, may now strengthen and keep them in this faith through his work in Holy Baptism.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Men of His Word
The annual Men of His Word conference in Oshkosh is coming up on February 17. Men of His Word equips Christian men to take a leadership role within their family, within their congregation, and in their community. Each year a group of men from St. Andrew attend. Go here to learn more about the conference and to register. Reach out to St. Andrew Men’s Ministry leader Brian Fritz about carpooling.

A Morning for Your Marriage—Trust
Have you noticed how some stars seem to disappear if you look directly at them? To see them, you almost have to look sideways. The reason has to do with rods and cone sensors in our eyes, but I don’t understand that. I do know that trust is like that. You don’t build it directly, but husbands and wives can build trust by a thousand other actions. That we can grow to understand and practice. That’s what we’ll do in our next A Morning for Your Marriage, from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday, February 24. Guests are welcome, and so are children. Childcare will be available, but we ask that you register by Monday, February 19.

Impact
There is one thing you need. Jesus knows what it is, and he tells you. The one thing needful is his Word. Pastor Jon Bilitz from Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel helps us understand Jesus’ lesson for Martha, which is a lesson for you. You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to the next PowerHour! Join us on Friday, March 1, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. There is no PowerHour on February 16. Click here for more information on PowerHour.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Let’s move stuff around | Help needed February 14 and 17
In order to prepare for new flooring installation, two rooms need to be cleared out and then returned to form. If you can help move things around, including a few larger pieces, on either February 14 after 4:00 PM or February 17 (whatever time works best for the group), please contact Pastor Clinton.

Lenten meals: setup, service, and cleanup
Starting February 14, additional opportunities to gather and focus on our Savior will enhance the season of Lent. These gatherings also include fellowship meals. A great opportunity for you or your Growth Group to serve is by assisting the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup. Sign up here.

LWMS Convention June 27 – 30
Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society exists to support mission outreach within our church body. The annual LWMS convention is June 27 – 30 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Find more information about the convention and about LWMS at their website.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our March Monthly Mission Partner is the St. Andrew ministry of mission trips. This summer, teens and adults will go to several different locations to help spread the gospel of Jesus. Not everyone will go on a mission trip, but you can still support them with prayers, encouragement, and offerings. Both the host congregations of mission trips and the participants themselves have always appreciated St. Andrew’s support.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Father-Daughter Ball
Fathers and their daughters are invited to “An Enchanted Evening” of dancing and fun! Our annual Father-Daughter Ball is being held on Saturday, February 10, from 6 to 9 PM in the St. Andrew Lutheran Church gymnasium. The cost of the event will be $5 per person. You can register to attend this magical night here.

Help the WCS Track Team
Westside Christian School is currently looking for someone with the gifts to head coach our WCS track team in the spring. The season will start in early April with a commitment of two practices per week. The season ends in late May and is accompanied with 3 to 4 track meets throughout the year. We currently have an outstanding staff of assistant coaches. The former head coach is also willing to work with the new head coach prior to the season to ease the transition into the role. It is a great opportunity to serve our school and help our students glorify God with their talents. Please reach out to our athletic director, Jack Murphy, if you have any questions or are interested.

Help needed in the Welcome Center
If you are interested in paid employment helping out in the Welcome Center on days when the receptionist is not here, please contact Principal Meredith Pucci. Candidates need to be available on school days from 8 AM to 1 PM, with an option to stay later if there is enough work to keep busy. General computer knowledge and attention to detail is required.
