This Week
Who are you?
Imagine you lived 2,000 years ago and Jesus invited you to follow him. Your first question might be, “Who are you?” Matthew’s first record of Jesus’ “active ministry,” after his baptism, would have given you the answer. He’s the one who’s not tricked by Satan. He’s the one who puts the will of God first. He’s the one who won’t let his feelings dictate his actions. He’s the one who perfectly obeys the Father. He’s still that one and he still invites you to follow him. Read Matthew 4:1-11 and gather with your brothers and sisters to see through Satan’s temptations, see Jesus’ solutions to temptations, know him better, and follow him more closely. Join us for worship Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Wednesday Lent devotions | The Crucial Hours
Soon we begin the season of Lent, a season where we bow our heads before our holy God in repentance and humility. We have sinned, and God’s perfect justice demands punishment for sin. But God’s perfect love demanded that the people he created should not have to be punished for their sin. So the Father sent his Son, Jesus, to stand in our place and to take the punishment for our sin. During Lent, we remember the cost of our sin, but we also remember with gratitude and love the sacrifice our Savior made for us. This Lent, we will follow Jesus through a series we are calling the Crucial Hours – certain hours during the week of Jesus’ death that show his love and dedication to our salvation. As we follow Jesus on this journey, we will get a better understanding of how good he is, and how good it is to follow him.
Gather with brothers and sisters on the six Wednesdays of Lent beginning March 5 at 5:00 or 6:30 PM. Stay for dinner provided by one of our St. Andrew Best Chefs from 5:30 – 6:15 PM. Livestream will be available at 5:00 PM.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Valentine’s Evening | Make your marriage a better dance
Friday, February 14
If you drift from your dance partner, you ruin your dance. If you dance without paying attention to your dance partner, you ruin your dance. No one wants to dance like that.
When we marry, we long to experience oneness, but we find it easy to drift toward isolation. We want to move through life together as a team, but without paying attention we can end up moving through life married but not together. No one wants a marriage like that.
What could you learn that would help you move closer together? What could you do that would improve the dance of your marriage?
At our Valentine’s Evening, enjoy the company of others who, like you, want to make your marriage or future marriage a better dance. Enjoy a glass of wine and heavy apps created by Arndt Catering, apply God’s Word regarding the dance of marriage, and even get a dance lesson from St. Andrew sister, Katie Edwards, a professional dance teacher. Preview some of the moves Katie will teach here.
6:00 PM – Gathering and apps (atrium)
6:30 PM – Bible teaching to help you connect with the Lord and each other (sanctuary)
7:00 PM – Dance lesson and practice for as little or long as you like, until 8:30 PM (gym)
Register by this Sunday, February 9.

Impact podcast
Where is the Father’s house? Here is a better question. How has Jesus prepared a place for us in the Father’s house? Professor Keith Wessel from Martin Luther College is here to help us answer that. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.
PowerHour
February will bring some change to PowerHour dates. Instead of the 1st and 3rd Fridays, it will be on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. That makes the next PowerHour February 14 with a “Love Your Neighbor” theme. Go here to learn more about this ministry for children.

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Service opportunity | St. Andrew Valentine’s Evening
Regardless of your marital status, you want marriages around you to be strong and Christ-centered and all relationships to honor God. A way you can help make that happen is to keep events like this running smoothly. You can serve whether you are attending or not. If you’d like to help with setup or cleanup, contact Pastor Clinton.
Service roles to be filled
Do you get the impression that there’s no place for you to serve? There is. Below are a few of the teams that could get you involved in service right away. See Pastor Clinton to serve.
- Audio—mostly turning mics on and off and up and down. It may seem intimidating, but it just takes a little bit of training.
- Slides—control what is on the screens. It’s mostly about paying attention and pressing buttons.
- Communion Care—handling the Lord’s Supper elements before and after worship.
WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. Last month’s video shows one example of a personal relief grant through Christian Aid & Relief.

Monthly Mission Partner
In February we will pray for and support the families of Abundant Life Christian School, a community that experienced a tragedy in December. The kindness God’s people show to our neighbor is in response to the kindness God has shown us in Christ, who lived and died even for his enemies. Abundant Life is not quite the backyard of St. Andrew, and one might think of it as in competition with Westside Christian School, but God’s love is for everyone, so we will lift up in prayer these fellow souls for whom Jesus died. February MMP offerings will be used to send a gift to each individual family as an outpouring of Christian love.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
Warrior for a Day
Last week, our 7th grade students had the opportunity to attend “Warrior for a Day” at Lakeside Lutheran High School. The purpose of this great day is for 7th grade students from the Lakeside Federation to come together and spend the day learning what life is like at LLHS. The teachers at Lakeside led students through a typical day. The students enjoyed lunch and then headed to a roller-skating rink in Watertown to burn off some energy. The Westside students enjoyed their day and the opportunity to be a Warrior for a Day!
Attending LLHS is a true commitment for many Westside families. The travel distance alone can be a great challenge. However, continuing to hear the gospel message daily at Lakeside, just like they heard during their years at Westside, proves to be a great blessing for many. |

Call meeting
On Thursday, February 13, at 6 PM, we will convene for another call meeting for another 3rd grade teacher. Mr. Nathan Hablewitz returned his call. We have not heard from Miss Emma Nolte on her call. Again, please join us next Thursday for this meeting. If you are unable to attend, please keep Westside Christian School in your prayers. |
