This Week

Joy by grace
Irish singer-songwriter Bono wrote a song called “Grace.” Grace, she takes the blame. She covers the shame. Removes the stain . . . Grace, it’s a name for a girl, It’s also a thought that changed the world . . . What once was hurt, what once was friction, what left a mark no longer stings because Grace makes beauty out of ugly things. When interviewed about the song, he said, “There is atonement built in [into the world]: an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Then enters Grace and turns that upside down. I love it.” So do we. Grace brings us together to hear the good news of how God, by grace, turns the world upside down. In Romans 4, Paul teaches us through Abraham. Don’t expect God to jump for joy over your obedience; instead, you can jump for joy over what he’s done for you. It’s grace. Read Romans 4 and join the saints jumping for joy this Thursday at 7 PM or on Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM.

Seven words from the cross
To help your Lenten meditation, you can listen to this past episode of Impact, a St. Andrew podcast. Part two of Jesus’ seven words from the cross is featured. If you missed part one, here it is.

Summer Camp
Summer camp at St. Andrew will look a little different this year. Instead of conducting science experiments and kicking soccer balls, kids will have an opportunity to grow in music, art, cooking, and more. What won’t be different is that Jesus will be in the middle of everything. The dates are July 8 – 11. Registration will begin after Easter.

Impact
The Gideon story comes to an end on this episode with Pastor John Boggs. The ending teaches us a valuable lesson. You can listen to Impact here or wherever you find podcasts by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

PowerHour
Children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited to the next PowerHour. Join us on Friday, March 1, at 10:30 AM in the St. Andrew gym. If you want to know what the theme will be, we can’t tell you. It’s a surprise! Click here for more information on PowerHour.

Lenten meals: setup, service, and cleanup
Lent worship services are additional opportunities to gather and focus on our Savior and to share a meal. If you or your Growth Group would like to serve by assisting the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup, sign up here.

Service opportunity | Brat Fest
St. Andrew will again be a Brat Fest charity this Memorial Day weekend. Volunteers will interact with the community and earn donations for St. Andrew’s mission trips. The sign-up goes live on March 15, so look for details on how to sign up by then. Contact minimissions@st-andrew-online.org for more information.

LWMS Convention June 27 – 30
Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society exists to support mission outreach within our church body. The annual LWMS convention is June 27 – 30 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Find more information about the convention and about LWMS at their website.

Monthly Mission Partner
Down syndrome affects only about 1 in 1,500 (about the same percentage as a male being at least 6’6” or a female being at least 6’). This means Down syndrome is extremely overrepresented in the St. Andrew family. Our March Mission Partner is GiGi’s Playhouse, a Down syndrome achievement center in Madison. Find more information about this organization’s activity at their website.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Prayers for Mrs. Renstrom
Ashley Renstrom, a 1st grade teacher at Westside Christian School, has taken a leave of absence due to severe postpartum depression and anxiety. She is attending a full-time counseling program in Madison and will undergo intensive treatment for an open-ended length of time. Nicole McCoy, one of our current staff members, has graciously accepted the role of long-term substitute, and the transition for the students has been seamless.

Many of you know Ashley personally and would like to do more. While your desire to do so is appreciated, please understand that at the moment her support network is robust, and no additional assistance is required. When you encounter Ashley at church or in the community, a simple gesture of acknowledgment, such as a warm greeting, hug, or smile, and letting her know that you are praying for her, goes a long way in showing your support. However, please refrain from asking her what you can do to help or how she is doing. She has a support team of family and close friends who are providing all the TLC she needs for now. She wants everyone to know that she feels deeply supported and loved during this challenging time. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Call updates
Our 3rd grade teacher, Ms. Gnewuch, continues to deliberate her call to Abiding Peace Academy in Simpsonville, South Carolina, to teach a 3rd/4th or 4th/5th combo classroom next school year. She welcomes your prayers, words of encouragement, and thoughts for her as she deliberates this call.

Additionally, Dan Plath was called to serve as principal at Westside Christian School. Please pray for him as he continues to deliberate where to serve.
