This Week

Who do you say I am?
A simple question is a vital one. A matter of opinion is not the same as a matter of truth that some people will get wrong. When Jesus asked the question about himself, a lot of people got it wrong, and they still do, but Matthew 16 records the right answer for us. Read verses 13-20, and then join us to worship the Son of the living God. Worship opportunities are Thursday night at 7 and Sunday morning at 8 and 10:30.

Highlights

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Pastor for Outreach call
Pastor John Borgwardt continues to hold the call to serve as our Pastor for Outreach. He currently serves at Living Word Lutheran Church in Waukesha. Pray for him and his ministry as he compares two possible paths before him.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
Painting of the sanctuary and atrium ceilings begins this week so the acoustical ceiling panels in both spaces can be installed soon. We’ve also received two different sizes of sample chairs for the new sanctuary. They are sitting outside Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs’ office, so feel free to try them out and cast your vote when you’re in the building this week. Fabric style and colors for the chairs are still being finalized.

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Wednesday Lent devotions | Father, Forgive
This Lent, in a series called “Father, Forgive,” we will meet six people who needed forgiveness from the cross as we follow Jesus to it. By considering Christ’s prayers for their behavior, we gain insights into our own temptations and shortcomings and give thanks for the Father’s forgiveness. Gather with brothers and sisters on the five remaining Wednesdays of Lent. Stay for dinner provided by one of our St. Andrew Best Chefs from 5:30 – 6:15 PM. Livestream will be available at 5:00 PM.

  • February 25: Forgive our defiance | Best Chefs Jesus Avila and Asencion Montenegro will serve chicken enchiladas (GF available)
  • March 4: Forgive our resentfulness | Best Chefs Dan and Sarah Arndt will serve macaroni and cheese and cheesy grits (GF available)
  • March 11: Forgive our dissent | Best Chef Lauren Figi will serve a variety of soups (GF available)
  • March 18: Forgive our contempt |Best Chef Jane Dew will serve breakfast sandwiches (GF available)
  • March 25: Forgive our misplacement | Best Chefs Dwayne and Stacy Kratt will serve white chicken chili (GF)

Save the date | May 14 & 17
It’s hard to believe, but our final worship services in our current sanctuary are quickly approaching. The weekend of May 14 & 17 will be our last weekend of worship in that space. We will give thanks for all of the blessings God has showered about St. Andrew as we’ve worshiped together there. Once school finishes, we will need to vacate the current sanctuary so classroom building can begin. However, the new sanctuary will not quite be finished, so we will move worship to the gym for a few weeks until the new space is complete. Many more details will be coming soon.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

FUEL fundraiser
Several St. Andrew high school students are looking to attend the WELS International Youth Rally in Ohio this summer. To help fund their trip, they will serve made-to-order specialty coffee drinks on Sunday morning, March 15, before and after each service. If you choose to donate, it is preferred you do so with cash. Enjoy a fun coffee and support our teens. Click here for more information on the rally. If your teen would like to attend, contact Seth and Delaney Fenske.

Men of His Word
Fifteen men from St. Andrew attended the Men of His Word conference in Oshkosh on Saturday. All reported that they enjoyed the conference and are in the process of sharing takeaways with one another. Next year’s date is February 27. Our goal is to take 27 men to Men of His Word 2027 on February 27!

College Ministry Team
St. Andrew sent out some encouragement in the mail (and a gift card) to our 40 college students. Most are in Wisconsin, but others are spread out at schools in Minnesota, Montana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arizona, and Illinois. Please say a prayer that God would look after them and that they stay connected to his Word.

Impact
Your Bible is the very word of God from cover to cover. That truth comes to us from the apostle Peter. Our guest this week is Pastor Brad Krause, a teacher of God’s Word at Fox Valley Lutheran High School in Appleton. He will take us through 2 Peter chapter 1. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

PowerHour
The next PowerHour is Friday, March 6, with a surprise theme. PowerHour is for parents and their young children. It begins at 10:15 in the St. Andrew gym. For more information on PowerHour, click here.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Service opportunity | Assist with Wednesday Lent meals
Lent worship services have begun. These are additional opportunities to gather and focus on our Savior and to share a meal. If you would like to serve by assisting the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup, sign up here.

Outreach opportunity | Lent services
One might think that only the most dedicated would attend a second weekly church service, but what if it’s the first? Lent services are shorter than weekend services, they have a focused message prominently featuring the words and actions of Jesus, and they are accompanied by a wonderful fellowship meal. Take the opportunity to invite a friend, family member, or coworker to a casual dinner and devotion.

Teen mission trip to Rock Hill
The time to apply will be coming soon, so please contact Pastor Clinton if you are or have an interested teen or are interested in leading the trip. This year’s trip is June 20/21 – 26. We will be sending a group back to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to help lead a smaller church’s science camp.

LWMS Convention coming to Madison
The 63rd Annual Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society Convention is June 25 – 28 in Madison at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. It features workshops, devotions, fellowship, and much more. There will also be many opportunities to serve both before and during; if you are interested in serving, please contact Amanda Taticek. Visit 63.lwms.org for more information about the convention.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our February partner is our church body’s mission efforts to the Hmong population in Vietnam. In 2025, the Hmong Evangelical Lutheran Church baptized over 10,000 individuals, and they continue to spread the gospel and grow. View a photo album of the Holy Spirit’s work in Vietnam.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call updates
Mr. Steve Lehman from Menasha, Wisconsin, still holds the call to serve as our grade 5 teacher for next year. Mr. Lehman currently teaches grades 5 – 6 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran School. Please keep Mr. Lehman and his family in your prayers.

Dr. Tammy Mielke recently declined her call to teach in Muskego, Wisconsin. We are pleased that she will remain at Westside Christian School.

Job opportunity | Westside Christian School administrative assistant
Mrs. Stacy Bernd is stepping down as Westside’s administrative assistant. We have been blessed to have her for ten years. Her last day is coming soon, and we are looking for someone to fill this role. If you have any interest in this position, contact Principal Daniel Plath (612-239-8447).
