This Sunday

Whose voice do you follow?
There’s no shortage of advisors, commentators, or people with opinions who would love to “share” them with you. But whose voice do you listen to? You can’t listen to all of them. Do you listen only to voices that agree with you? That could be dangerous. Do you listen only to voices that disagree with you? That sounds just as dangerous. We want to listen to the voice that speaks the truth. How do you find it? That was the dilemma for the apostle Paul in Acts 16:6-10. We’re not given a litmus test to determine which voice to listen to, but we are given an example of a fellow follower of Christ seeking his voice. Let’s learn from him. The family of God gathers for worship in our building on Thursday at 7 PM and on Sunday at 8 & 10:30 AM. You’re welcome to be a part of it and to seek God’s voice.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Call meeting
You’re welcome to participate in a call meeting for our next Pastor for Service and Outreach in the sanctuary on Sunday, February 6, at 11:45 AM. We’ll begin with a brief review of the doctrine of the call, review the ministry description for this position, and consider the candidates on the call list given to us by our district president. We’ll receive information (about two pages) on each candidate: where each has served, ministries of special interest, family, etc. Everyone is welcome to ask questions and make comments. Finally, we’ll ask the voting members of St. Andrew, the men, to exercise the role of spiritual head on behalf of their own wishes and what they’ve heard others say and then choose the man we’ll call.

Christmas gift
Dear brothers and sisters of St. Andrew,

Your love and support for our ministry is evident throughout the year, but your recently gathered Christmas gift was an unexpected encouragement. Thank you. We are humbled by your generosity and your willingness to share with us. May God bless you for it, and may he bless us with a continuing spirit of working together to proclaim Christ.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

New Christian Worship hymnal
You may have noticed this past weekend that our opening responses and prayers in worship were taken from the new Christian Worship hymnal put out by our church body, the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. This updated hymnal was just released this fall. We have a few copies of the hymnal in the church library for you to check out along with the new Psalter that was published. There are many wonderful devotional materials in this new hymnal for you and your family. We will be introducing new service elements and songs from this hymnal in the months ahead.

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Men of His Word
A group of St. Andrew men are taking a Bible road trip, and you can join us. The 13th annual Men of His Word Conference will be held at the Best Western Premier Waterfront Convention Center in Oshkosh on Saturday, February 19. Several men from St. Andrew are already signed up. To register, go here. Contact Brian Fritz with your questions and to arrange for carpooling.

Impact
You may never win an MVP award, but Jesus says you are valuable to him, and that is why you do not need to worry. For encouragement to worry less and trust more, listen to Pastor Jon Bilitz on Impact. Click here for Impact or find it where you listen to podcasts. Search “Kjenstad Impact.” Impact is new every Monday, and all past episodes are available.

Home devotions seminar
You are invited to learn about “a simple way to a Christian home” at a seminar on home devotions. The seminar is Saturday, February 5, at Lord of Love Lutheran Church in DeForest from 9 AM – noon. Mr. Kjenstad will be attending. Here is the link for more information and to register.

PowerHour
The Winter Olympics are almost here, and all of the children that attend PowerHour on Friday will get their very own gold medal! PowerHour is Friday, February 4, at 10:30 AM in the gym. All children up to age 3 and their caregivers are invited for music, stories, play, and a snack. Do you know someone with a young child? Please tell them about PowerHour at St. Andrew!

Musikgarten
Come to Musikgarten on Sunday mornings at 9:20 AM and experience music and rhythm with an infant or toddler in your care. Questions? Contact Karen Hong.

Plugged into Jesus
Look for crosses wherever you go this week. Crosses remind us that God provided a Savior for us. This week’s lesson is “A Servant’s Mission: Isaac and Rebekah.” Plugged into Jesus meets on Sundays at 9:20 AM. New friends are always welcome! Virtual Kits are available on request. Use this link to watch the Bible teaching video. Questions? Contact Jane Dew.

Spark
Who do you love? How do you tell them? Grades 6 – 8 meet on Sundays at 9:30 AM for Bible study, life application, and activities. Contact Lance Hill with questions.

FUEL
The pizza from last week is gone, but Mr. KJ has plenty of candy to give away. All St. Andrew teens are invited to FUEL on Sundays at 9:30 AM. This week, teens will be given reasons for the Christian position on abortion.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Thank you
Your faith is showing. The dozens of men, women, and children who served the Thiele family at the funeral of our brother David were a beautiful display of Christian love and service. Thank you to all who played for the service and operated the AV booth, planned the reception, purchased the food, set up the gym, prepared the food, served the food (Jack Thiele’s middle school classmates), and cleaned up after. Your kind words and actions were a comfort to the family and a witness of your love for Jesus and the Thieles.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our February Monthly Mission Partner is Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel and Student Center—a campus ministry located on the corner of State and Gilman. Check out their website to learn more about the work they’re doing to keep college students connected to Christ and each other.

Moving help?
Teresa Balistreri is moving back to Madison! We look forward to seeing her and 16-year-old son, Joe, again. If you’re able to help them get some items from trucks into her house this Saturday, Feb. 5, please click here to contact her.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

Call returned
After much prayer and thought, Kim Gnewuch has decided to remain here in her call to teach and serve at St. Andrew Lutheran Church and Westside Christian School. She thanks you for your prayers and helpful comments in the past few weeks as she prayed and deliberated where she would best be able to serve our Lord with her abilities. Please pray that the work at St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Church be blessed in Beverly Hills, Florida, as they continue to call someone who will use God’s Word to lead their little children to his waiting arms.

Wisconsin Parental Choice Program
Westside Christian School participates in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP). The WPCP is a state-funded program that offers qualified families a voucher to cover their child’s tuition in full. The application period began on February 1, 2022, and will end April 21, 2022. You can learn more and complete an application here.

The WPCP is available to current Westside families as well as students coming from a public school, home school, charter, or virtual school setting. Students could be eligible if their family income is below the program limit. If you have not been part of the program before but think your family qualifies and would like to learn more, we encourage you to reach out to Principal Meredith Pucci. More information can be found on our website.
