This Week

Heads up
Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord. We celebrate this truth throughout life and look ahead to an eternity with our God all because of who Christ is and what he accomplished in saving us from our sins. We also journey through life aware of the dangers that threaten us and seek to drag us away from our God. Matthew 16 urges us to not only be aware of these dangers, but to also flee to our God and his Word for safety and protection. Join us for worship on Thursday at 7 PM or Sunday at 8 or 10:30 AM.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Pastor for Outreach call
Pastor John Borgwardt continues to hold the call to serve as our Pastor for Outreach. He currently serves at Living Word Lutheran Church in Waukesha. Pray for him and his ministry as he compares two possible paths before him.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
Drywalling continues and is just about complete, so painting will soon begin. Below is a picture of one of the new offices with drywall and door and window frames.

Sanctuary floor signing
When we built our current sanctuary in 2001, members wrote Bible passages on the floor before the flooring was installed. When we put new flooring in five years ago, we allowed members to do the same thing. As we’ve worshiped over the years, we’ve literally been standing on God’s Word each week. As we get closer to the flooring being installed, we plan to do the same thing in the new sanctuary. We may not be able to give you much of a heads up, but we will try to allow as many people to write their favorite Bible passage on the new floor as possible. Start thinking about what that passage might be!

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Wednesday Lent devotions | Father, Forgive
This Lent, in a series called “Father, Forgive,” we will meet six people who needed forgiveness from the cross as we follow Jesus to it. By considering Christ’s prayers for their behavior, we gain insights into our own temptations and shortcomings and give thanks for the Father’s forgiveness. Gather with brothers and sisters on the six Wednesdays of Lent beginning February 18 at 5:00 or 6:30 PM. Stay for dinner provided by one of our St. Andrew Best Chefs from 5:30 – 6:15 PM. Livestream will be available at 5:00 PM.

  • February 18: Forgive our doubt | Best Chef Laura Westphal will serve sloppy joes and baked potato bar (GF available)
  • February 25: Forgive our defiance | Best Chefs Jesus Avila and Asencion Montenegro will serve chicken enchiladas (GF available)
  • March 4: Forgive our Resentfulness | Best Chefs Dan and Sarah Arndt will serve macaroni and cheese and cheesy grits (GF available)
  • March 11: Forgive our dissent | Best Chef Lauren Figi will serve a variety of soups (GF available)
  • March 18: Forgive our doubt |Best Chef Jane Dew will serve breakfast sandwiches (GF available)
  • March 25: Forgive our misplacement | Best Chefs Dwayne and Stacy Kratt will serve white chicken chili (GF)

Save the date | May 14 & 17
It’s hard to believe, but our final worship services in our current sanctuary are quickly approaching. The weekend of May 14 & 17 will be our last weekend of worship in that space. We will give thanks for all of the blessings God has showered about St. Andrew as we’ve worshiped together there. Once school finishes, we will need to vacate the current sanctuary so classroom building can begin. However, the new sanctuary will not quite be finished, so we will move worship to the gym for a few weeks until the new space is complete. Many more details will be coming soon.

Milestones
Our gracious and wise God took our sister Mary Fritsche home to himself on February 9. We mourn with her husband Tim and the rest of the family, but we rejoice in Mary’s victory and in the end of her suffering. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20,  4 – 7 PM, at Winn-Cress Funeral Home in Waunakee. A private service will be held.

Asher Dale Voelz, son of Ben and Jennie, was baptized last Sunday. May God bless him with the village it takes to raise him and with the Holy Spirit to nurture his faith all his life. Welcome to the family!

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

College Ministry Team
St. Andrew serves almost 40 college students with mailings twice a year. Our second mailing will soon be sent. If your college student has a different address since the beginning of the year, please let Minister of Nurture Mark Kjenstad know.

Impact
Jesus displayed his full glory to his inner circle at a pivotal moment in his ministry. Pastor Jonathan Bauer is here to take us up the mountain for the transfiguration of our Lord. You can listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

PowerHour
There is no PowerHour on Friday, February 20. PowerHour returns on Friday, March 6, with a surprise theme. PowerHour is for parents and their young children. It begins at 10:15 in the St. Andrew gym. For more information on PowerHour, click here.

Sunday children’s ministries
Musikgarten, Plugged into Jesus, Spark, and FUEL have room for your children. Note the sign in the atrium with locations and times. “Let the little children come to me, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Service opportunity | Assist with Wednesday Lent meals
Lent worship services begin this week. These are additional opportunities to gather and focus on our Savior and to share a meal. Thanks to quick responses from both individuals and Growth Groups, most of these are well covered, but there are still opportunities for February 25, March 18, and Easter breakfast on April 5. If you would like to serve by assisting the chefs with prep, setup, service, and cleanup, sign up here.

Outreach opportunity | Lent services
One might think that only the most dedicated would attend a second weekly church service, but what if it’s the first? Lent services are shorter than weekend services, they have a focused message prominently featuring the words and actions of Jesus, and they are accompanied by a wonderful fellowship meal. Take the opportunity to invite a friend, family member, or coworker to a casual dinner and devotion.

Save the date for teen mission trip
Mission trips provide a perfect opportunity to grow in faith, encourage others, and share in the love of Jesus through various acts of service. This year we will be sending a group back to Rock Hill, South Carolina, to help lead a smaller church’s science camp. The trip dates are June 20/21 – 26. If you are or have an interested teen or are interested in leading the trip, please contact Pastor Clinton.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our February partner is our church body’s mission efforts to the Hmong population in Vietnam. In 2025, the Hmong Evangelical Lutheran Church baptized over 10,000 individuals, and they continue to spread the gospel and grow. View a photo album of the Holy Spirit’s work in Vietnam.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

School administrative assistant needed
After ten years of dedicated service to Westside Christian School, Stacy Bernd has decided to step away and pursue another venture. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Stacy for her years of service to Westside and St. Andrew.

With Stacy’s departure, we need to fill that position rather quickly. If you would like more information about this position, please contact the school office or speak with Mr. Plath.

Call updates
The teacher call season continues until April 15, 2026. Currently, we have a call out for grade 5. We also have a teacher that received a call.

Mr. Steve Lehman from Menasha, Wisconsin, was called by St. Andrew to serve as our grade 5 teacher. Mr. Lehman currently teaches grades 5 – 6 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran School.

Dr. Tammy Mielke was recently called by St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Muskego, Wisconsin, to teach ELA to grades 6 – 8. Please take a moment to speak with Tammy about her call to Muskego as well as the work she does here at Westside Christian School.

Please keep both Steve and Tammy in your prayers as they deliberate these calls.

Connections
The 3rd grade students and teachers invite any and all to participate with them in playing games and getting to know each other. Connections is taking place Friday, February 27, from 2:30 – 3:00 PM in the gym. If you would like to know more about the program, please contact Mrs. Beth Plath. Hope to see you there!
