This Week
Poetry in the Bible
Many parts of the Bible, including some entire books, were written in poetic style. Over the next few months, we have the privilege of studying God’s wisdom through selected portions of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs. Join us in worship Thursday night at 7:00 or Sunday morning at 8:00 or 10:30 to join in the wisdom of Psalm 119: constant pursuit of life in the light of God’s Word.

Worship
Resources and opportunities for you to worship
Milestones
Evan Roland Renstrom, child of Ashley and Jesse Renstrom, will be born again of water and the Word through Baptism in our worship this Sunday, August 13.
This past weekend we had the joy of celebrating the confirmation of Cole Brickner. He may have finished his catechism lessons, but the Lord is far from finished with the spiritual growth of Cole. To God be the glory!
Cole’s confirmation passage: “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1

A/V serving opportunities
Don’t be intimidated by all the electronic equipment—the A/V booth provides many opportunities to not only serve but to learn new skills:
- Livestream Video techs make livestreaming possible each week by adjusting cameras and online microphones.
- Audio techs adjust the microphone levels in the sanctuary and mix the music for our livestream.
- Slide techs make it possible to worship from the screens as they advance the slides throughout worship.
Interested in learning more or shadowing in one of these areas? Contact Minister of Worship Naomi Laabs or Pastor Clinton.
Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Nurture
Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others
Grow in Grace
Living without fear. Doesn’t that sound appealing? God’s Word can get you there. Join your St. Andrew brothers and sisters for Grow in Grace and learn how to live without fear. This four-week series continues August 20 at 9:30 AM in the sanctuary. All who attend will be given a copy of the book No Fear Year written by Pastor Mike Novotny. Childcare will be provided in the gym. If you missed the first session, no worries. Join us for the next one.
Ministries for Children
Plugged into Jesus and Musikgarten return Sunday, September 10, and PowerHour returns September 1. More information about these ministries will be in the atrium on Sunday. If you would like to join the children’s ministry team, contact Staff Minister for Nurture Mark Kjenstad.
Small Talk
If you haven’t yet listened to Small Talk, now is the time. Small Talk is our podcast that features young children talking about Jesus. This episode is with Kinsley, and she brought her A game. Give it a listen here, or find it wherever you listen to podcasts by searching “Small Talk Kamin.”
Impact
There is a lot to love about the first half of Colossians 1, including a gospel summary that stands toe to toe with John 3:16. Listen to Professor Kyle Bitter from Luther Preparatory School share insight from this prison epistle of St. Paul. You can listen to Impact here or on popular podcast platforms by searching “Kjenstad Impact.”

Service & Outreach
Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others
Non-driving member in need of rides
If you live in the Lodi area or really enjoy driving, please consider helping a St. Andrew member get to and from worship. She would be very grateful for any assistance, however frequent. Contact Pastor Clinton to help.
Service opportunity for Time of Grace event at St. Andrew
The event is Tuesday, August 15, from 6 – 8 PM, and there are opportunities before and after (not even necessarily the day of). It is a catered event, so no kitchen help is needed, but if you would like to help with setup or takedown and cleanup for this event, contact Pastor Clinton.
Service role | bakery courier
If you are looking for an early Sunday morning service role, this might be for you. The task is to get the weekly church doughnuts to campus on time. It is about a 20-minute time commitment. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.
August Monthly Mission Partner
The Love of Christ is St. Andrew’s compassion ministry to the community. It is one way we help those in need. This aid can be manpower or financial assistance. Either way, we show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love.
WELS Connection
Every month, our church body releases a video to highlight a specific project or ministry of some of our brothers and sisters in faith. You might recognize one of the churches featured in the July video that highlights possibilities through the WELS Church Extension Fund. View the video below.

Westside Christian School
A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word
2023 – 24 school year
The faculty and staff of WCS begin a new school year on August 23 with the great blessing of serving 267 students and their families. We will celebrate another year of staying connected to Jesus and his word. This is illustrated in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches . . . apart from me you can do nothing.” We will build on this theme during weekly Chapel services and encourage students to incorporate what they’ve learned into their everyday connections at school, home, church, and the community.
Kickoff Night
We look forward to welcoming students and parents back to the building on Monday, August 21! Preschool Orientation is from 4 – 5 PM, and K – 8 Kickoff is from 5 – 7 PM. We plan to have food trucks from Melted, Bob’s BBQ Emporium, and Kona ice available to make this a fellowship event for our families. |
