This Week

A Matter of Life AND Death
Bad stuff happens in life. That’s true for everyone, though the struggles and hardships and issues may vary. And yet Jesus Christ reigns supreme. God’s people gather around God’s Word knowing that we have a Savior who rules in both life AND death. That gives us hope for today. It also gives us assurance for eternity. Join us to worship our Savior Thursday night at 7 or Sunday morning at 8 or 10:30.

Events and ministry news needing immediate attention

Grow in Grace returns August 10
This Sunday we will welcome Dr. Stephen Geiger, Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary professor, to St. Andrew for Grow in Grace. He will present The Bible: How It Came to Be from 9:30 – 10:15 AM in the sanctuary. This fascinating 3-week series will look at the writing, preserving, and translating of Scripture. Childcare is available. Contact Children’s Ministry Director Emma Nolte to secure a spot for your children.

Eternal victory for Glennda
Our God called longtime St. Andrew member Glennda Brandt home to himself very early last Friday morning. While we mourn her loss alongside Leroy, we can also celebrate the victory Jesus won for her by defeating sin, death, and hell. Join us at St. Andrew for that celebration on Saturday, August 16. Visitation will be 9 – 11 AM with funeral service at 11 and lunch to follow.

A Place of Peace

Updates related to the ministry expansion and building project

Construction update
This week the new south parking lots will be paved. Once paved we will need to stay off of it for five days. So next week, we will shift entrances one more time to the main entrance on the south end of the building. We will continue to enter through those doors until the project is complete next summer. There are keypads and a doorbell on that end as well, so you can enter the building as you always have. Traffic at that point will enter through the NEW driveway off Schneider Road.

For this weekend yet, please park in the new north parking lot as well as any open spots on the north side of the original parking lot.

Construction on Parmenter Street continues. To get to St. Andrew, it is recommended to take one of these alternate routes:

  • From the north, County Road K to Church Road to Schneider Road
  • From the south, Airport Road to Capitol View Road to Schneider Road

On evenings after 6:30 and weekends you can use one of the routes above or take Highway 12 to the Parmenter Street Exit #249 and drive around the barriers. This construction project is between Century Avenue and Greenbriar Road and will last until October. We will keep you updated as we learn more and appreciate your patience.

A Place of Peace giving
Giving can be set up like other offerings. Go to “Give” at the website, and you can set up a one-time or recurring gift. Choose “A Place of Peace” as the “Fund.” If using a check, please put “A Place of Peace” in the memo line. If using St. Andrew offering envelopes, use the designation “Ministry Expansion.”

Even if you didn’t make a formal pledge, you can still give. Every bit helps, as St. Andrew will still carry some debt, and the less debt, the more ministry.

Worship

Resources and opportunities for you to worship

Song writers’ original music this weekend
Did you know we have two song writers in our congregation? This weekend during worship, along with some more familiar songs, you will hear some original songs written by St. Andrew members Dan Wasmer and Terry Jacobs. The band this weekend has been working together to develop these songs into what you will hear in worship. Come early to hear a couple of their songs before worship even begins. To God be the glory!

Milestones
Last Sunday we celebrated the faith of three teenagers and heard them make their promises to serve God throughout their lives. We rejoice in the confirmation of Benji Johnson, Sage Johnson, and Amelia Maron. Please continue to encourage and pray for them.

Worship check-in
If you worship on-site, please fill out the Connection Card attached to your worship folder. Online worshipers, please continue to check in here.

Weekend worship songs
Preview some of the songs we will use for worship this weekend. Obviously ours won’t sound exactly like this, but listening to the links provided will certainly help you be more comfortable participating in the service.

Hymn of Heaven” by Phil Wickham
Oh, for a Thousand Tongues to Sing” arranged by Paul Mills
Because He Lives” by Matt Maher

Nurture

Ways to be connected to Jesus throughout the week in your personal life and with others

Attention all teachers
Back to school is not just for the students! In all the excitement and preparations for a new year, we’d like to pray for the teachers among us and encourage you in your vocation. Teachers that we know of received an email from Mr. Kjenstad, but we don’t want to miss you, so please send us a note at [email protected] if you did not receive that email.

History of WELS
There is a new book in our St. Andrew library on the history of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran  Synod. Christ Through Us is available for you to check out. As with all books in our library, use the green binder on the black cart to self-check out. Please return promptly when you are finished.

Impact podcast
Many Bible teachers say if there is one book in the Bible to know well, it is Romans. That is, of course, very subjective. However, this podcast has spent more time in Romans than any other book, so maybe it is the truth. This week it’s more Romans—chapter 15 with Pastor Don Schultz, principal at Lakeside Lutheran High School. Listen to Impact here or by searching for “Kjenstad Impact” wherever you listen to podcasts.

Service & Outreach

Opportunities for you to live your faith and love for Jesus by sharing Jesus with others

Gifts and cards for new Westside teachers
If you’d like to welcome our new called workers (Sarah Durkee, Gale Hellpap, and Emma Nolte) with a gift or encouraging card, bring it to church with you this weekend. They will take their boxes with them after Sunday.

Thanks for serving, Mr. or Ms. Doe
An anonymous donor of time, effort, and supplies provided some much-needed TLC to the counter between the kitchen and the gym late last month. What a blessed church community where willing participants take charge of needed tasks.

Service opportunity | crafts assistant for Plugged into Jesus
If you enjoy planning arts and crafts, consider serving in our children’s ministry. Plugged Into Jesus is looking for a crafts assistant for four art projects this fall semester. Contact Emma Nolte if interested.

Service opportunity | outdoor greeters
Now that construction means altered parking and main entrance, we want to make sure our guests (and members) know where to go. You can still join the team to help direct worshipers to parking and to the entrance before worship services. It’s a role you can do whichever service you attend. Contact Pastor Clinton if interested.

New service role for 10:30 worshipers
If you prefer the late Sunday service and are willing to stick around for a half hour or so afterward, then a new service role is waiting for you. You don’t need any special skills, just some very basic computer competency. Contact Pastor Clinton to learn more.

Monthly Mission Partner
Our August partner is our local assistance fund. This is one way we help those in physical need. We show the love of Christ by helping not out of obligation, but out of thanksgiving for Christ’s love. St. Andrew has helped community members with groceries, gas, utilities, car repairs, children’s Christmas gifts, and more.

Westside Christian School

A ministry of St. Andrew, preparing students for academic success and lives of Christian service founded on God’s Word

After School Care help needed
Westside Christian School is in need of an After School Care worker (paid position) for the younger group (age 3 through 2nd grade). The hours are 3:15 – 5:00 PM each day. If interested, please reach out to Ellen Goetz.

Concessions need for sports
Do you love Westside’s athletics program and want to impact our guest and spectator experience? If so, Westside has a volunteer opportunity for you! We are looking for a Concessions Lead for the 2025-26 season (fall – spring sports). The responsibilities include the following:

  • purchasing food
  • setting prices
  • monitoring sales
  • keeping the storage organized
  • coordinating volunteers using SignUpGenius (or another tool of your choice)

The Concessions Lead does not need to attend every home game. Your responsibility for game days is only to ensure coverage and that the workers know what to do. Please reach out to Athletics Director Jack Murphy if you’d like to learn more. Go Wave!
